This garden centre is heaven for newbie or season gardeners with plants for all occasions within. We were easily able to seek advice from the staff about the condition of our Fiddle Leaf Fig and purchase pots, fertiliser and all other contraptions to give it a new lease on life. They even had a Monstera (google Swiss Cheese Plant) which I've been hunting for quite some time. The prices are not too dissimilar to Bunnings but the quality appears to be higher and the service received was easily over and above what I've experienced at other garden centres. Most times, I turn around to have a closer look. This mostly leads to a successful purchase. The best feature of this business are the staff who work here. Every time I have shopped here, I am greeted with smiles and helpful service. Most times I have a browse, but when I am looking for a plant in particular or advice on plants and gardening, these guys are always there offering a hand. It's service like this that leads to customers like me, continually purchasing. Another fantastic part of Gardenwize is their wide selection in outdoor features. They have plenty of garden statues, water and pond features, bird ponds and other outdoor decor to compliment anyones garden. Even if there's nothing I need, I find it a nice place to walk around and have a look.

My first delight came when I was warmly welcomed by a wonderful specimen of a man at the front entrance. After a minute of bewilderment I succumb to asking for assistance (difficult for a male I know). Well this lovely employee showed us exactly where to find the clips in such a kind and forgiving manner. She returned a glowing smile after I thanked her and went on my quest to find said clips. With ease I located them and I must say the variety of choice was unsurpassed than your average home improvement store and at such an affordable price. After a careful debate with my inner self I chose the most suitable clips and purchased using the self service counter. Now....I usually right mess up with those things but these ones were SO EASY to use! I didn't once have to call over a helper person. Now here comes the highlight of the visit; upon exiting I was set upon by a very happy go lucky employee who offered me a promotional basket ball...FREE OF CHARGE! Oh I were in hog heaven. Suffice to say I had a right grand time and recommend Bunnings for all your home and hardware needs!

These guys have got brass fittings, taps, door knobs, bits and bobs, gadgets and gizmos a plenty, whosits and whatsits galore... Their prices are cheaper than others around. You could go to Bunnings and get generic fittings for a reasonable price, or you could go to the Brass Shop Magins, find something unique and inexpensive, while enlist ing the help of the owners, David and Ann- Marie. These guys are the go to people regarding the more ornamental details of renovation work.

However, Brass Shop Magins is a great example of why you shouldn't dismiss places out of hand. We're all getting distressingly used to bland super stores that all stock the same, slightly dissatisfying range. It's a beautiful store and truthfully, part art gallery in the way plants are expertly hung around the room. It's a fine place for gifts for you, a friend, family or even just because you want something different to decorate your home. Of course I didn't leave empty handed and of course I've got a mental shopping list for future visits. This is a small business in West End that I sense is often forgotten by everyone except locals, but I hope it is never forgotten so much that the doors shut. The stencil art, pottery pieces, bamboo sculptures, the handmade stuffed toys and everything in between has an air of elegant simplicity about it. Hanasho also likes to keep it local and stocks local artist's wares. What most people come here for is the Ikebana (Japanese form of flower arranging). It's an art form I have always admired. It's not just the practice of making nice, visually pleasing floral arrangements- the 'pieces' are sculptural and thought provoking. I also like that whenever you pop in to visit, the owner can be seen in the back half of his store on the floor kneeling over a new creation. It is his workshop and his gallery, per se. If he's not working on something out the back, you'll generally find him outside amidst the potted succulents having a cigarrette. The owner has a particular character that spills out of him into his immaculately arranged shop. If you're looking for something unique for a gift, I'd suggest coming here. It's full of contemporary, often wierd and wonderful surprises.
