My teenage daughter and I just attended this course, with Chips as our instructor. He started out…read morewith the very basics, and took it slowly at the beginning, which was great since my daughter had little to no experience. He was kind, had a sense of humor, and made everyone feel comfortable. For everyone's safety, there was no tolerance for blatant carelessness, yet he didn't send anyone home for forgetting a piece of instruction here and there. He seemed to understand that we were human, and would give us warnings. Everyone in our class were average people, but serious about being safe riders and they did their best. But I'm sure that if someone were to show up with an "I'm above the rules" attitude, or if they had a really hard time paying attention (un-medicated ADD) they wouldn't have done well. The riding test is challenging, and there is a chance the you won't pass it the first time, but we were told the you can often get a discount if you retake the course within 30 days. Chips insisted that most people who quickly retake the course, easily pass the riding test. They just needed a little more practice on their skills. 6 out of 7 students from our class passed the riding test, and all 7 passed the written test. The take home is that this course is not just for being legal on the roads, it's designed to protect YOU from serious injury or death. If you have an "I'm invincible" attitude, or if you don't take safety seriously, do yourself a favor and stay off a motorcycle!

He did not even have a packet to give me or anything. He printed out a couple pieces of paper and wrote on the back. He asked if my child was potty trained and was very adamant that he had to be potty trained in the class that he needed to be in. He did not give me a tour around the school or even offer. I did not get a good feeling and definitely would not be returning. I had already heard from another parent that attended the school but they did not like it and it did not compare to the previous location that they attended. ( They did not stay at the school. ) I still wanted to go look at it and give it a chance. If it really was the owner that I was speaking with he was definitely not trying to sell the place to me. I have looked at many schools in this was by far the most unfriendly experience I have had.

I'm not in Spring Texas and I like to read materials in hard copy format, so I get lessons by correspondence. Don't be seduced by youtube guitar gurus, and fly-by-nighters who offer you "secrets" to play like a pro overnight, learning guitar takes time and effort, and learning by watching youtube videos takes a lot time and you only get a fragments of the whole picture and you end up wasting time, but the learning curve is shortened by the way Jim integrates theory and practice. The Jim Sutton institute of Guitar offers three stand alone courses, which also work together. The first is the Moving Towards Great Guitar Playing Course. This takes you from zero to an intermediate level of guitar Playing. The second course is the Music Theory Course For Guitar. It applies music theory to the guitar to give you a deep knowledge of how music works and how it relates to guitar, this takes you from an intermediate to an advanced level. The third main course is the Modal and Solo Composition Course For Guitar. This course takes the knowledge from the two previous courses and takes to to the next step: actually using that knowledge to create music. The Jim Sutton institute of Guitar also offers supplementary lessons on many subjects you may be interested in, such as soloing, technique, styles of music etc. . Whenever you have a question you can call or email Jim and he responds promptly, and he is very encouraging. Mr Sutton is a musician and a Berklee College of music graduate, these lessons are like having an in person guitar instructor for a fraction of the price.
