To get good results, you have to pay attention to the details. Just like a quality thermometer to pull that brisket at the right time, you need quality clean burning dry wood. I have a box of Smoak Firewood cherry, white oak, hickory and pecan at the ready at all times, if I get an urge to grill out or smoke on my PK360 or Cookshack. Every box appears to be hand picked, and clean and fresh but most importantly it's kiln dried. Having several boxes at the ready allows me to pick and match the wood to the thing I'm cooking. The owner Amy and staff are incredible folks that can answer any questions you have and even provide appropriately sized pieces. I'd much rather give my money to a local small business like this. If I'm remembering right, I believe they also supply several restaurants with cooking wood. This wood is even packaged so nice, it would be a great gift for a foodie! If you need some on a Saturday or while in Newnan or Sharpsburg it's also available at Cleaver & Cork.

Over 30 years of ordering firewood I've burned a lot. Most recently I ordered from Smoak who…read morepromptly delivered extra length wood, provided a measured face cord of oak, and stacked it neatly, very neatly. It was a little more expensive than some, but the quality is better than anything I've had before. Why does that matter? It starts easily but burns much longer. The pieces aren't from a trash tree, no rotten sections, perfectly split and clean. My full wood rack will last much longer than the cheaper products I've used in the past. I am a huge fan.

I just had my first experience with Hickey's Tree Service today. I had a huge tree that came down,…read moreknocked down my fence, and extended most of its length into a neighbor's backyard. I called Hickey's Tree Service on the recommendation of a friend, and in less than an hour, Gene Hickey was here. He checked out the job and gave us a quote which we accepted. Today, he and one of his crew came to remove the tree from the neighbors yard. They did it within 30 minutes. And it was a very large pine tree. Then there was another small tree that had fallen on the fence as well, and they removed it without me even knowing it. Then, when I went out to give him his check, he said that he and his guy were concerned about a dead cherry tree close to my fence which would threaten my daughter's car if it fell down. We had discussed that the day before, but we weren't ready to afford to have that tree taken down as well. Gene said that the job went so well, that he would take that tree down for free. Who in the world does anything for free these days? Talk about Honorable! Talk about someone I would totally trust! Hickey's Tree Service has my business for as long as I have trees, and I have probably 25 or more on my own property, plus all my neighbors are very timber-wealthy as well. I will be recommending him to all of my neighbors and friends, but I wanted to recommend him to the general public also. Gene Hickey is a good guy, One you can trust with your business!

They sent out the person who initially did my quote to tamp down the track marks, which was nice so I added $50 to the check for the fast response and attempt to fix it. This ended up being a severe mistake as I then discovered damage to my gate. Minor, but clearly nobody cared to take note of it, contact me about it or fix it. When I contacted again, I was told I must be confused on my part, as the careless team that runs heavy machinery through wet yards couldn't have been the same careless team that ran that heavy machinery up against a bolt, splitting the wood and bending it out of place. For this service, you're better off renting machinery from Lowe's and doing the damage yourself. I was told quote "this is an unusually slow time" as there's been a lot of competition from tree companies starting more work from the hurricane that came through. It's sounding like that competition has been the better option for people, and I didn't get that hint.

I chose to pay a daily rate and the crew got much more accomplished than the competitors quoted. However next time I use them I will request a fixed scope quoted so that there is no ambiguity. The big deal to me is when you order wood, is how much wood you are getting from the provider? I've…read morebeen buying firewood for over 40 years and in the last 5 years it has become more difficult to find a seller who knows how to measure wood. You'll find plenty of companies that sell "cords, truckloads, ricks, stacks, etc." I always buy a "true" cord. A "truckload"-think a Ford F-150, will barely hold a 1/3 cord. If you want a "cord"of wood, then you better make sure that you understand the difference between a "face cord" and a "true cord. A "true" cord of wood is a standard measurement used to quantify firewood. It is defined as a stack of wood that measures 4 feet high, 4 feet wide, and 8 feet long, totaling 128 cubic feet of wood. A "face" cord, on the other hand, refers to a stack of wood that is typically 4 feet high and 8 feet long, but the depth can vary. The most common depth for a face cord is 16 inches, which is a common length for cut logs. This means a face cord contains about one-third of a full cord, or approximately 42.7 cubic feet of wood. In summary: - Cord: 128 cubic feet (4' x 4' x 8'). - Face Cord: Typically 42.7 cubic feet (4' x 8' x 16"). Make sure to clarify which measurement is being used when purchasing firewood. It takes 3 "face" cords to equal 1 "true"cord! I texted Matt at North Atlanta Firewood to confirm the measurement of a "true" cord of wood. Their website clearly shows the measurements of all the wood that they sell, but I just wanted to be certain as my previous purchases from other providers over the last few years didn't "measure up" to what was promised, both in size and quality of the firewood. Matt arranged for a delivery of Oak firewood a couple days later and texted me the evening before with a 2 hour time window for delivery. The next day, I received another text from the delivery guys telling me that they were 15 minutes away-right on time! The 2 young guys that delivered were extremely pleasant. The stacking site was not that easy to get to, but they worked very hard getting the wood to that site, with a smile on their faces the entire time. When finished, we measured the wood pile and it was, as hoped for, a "true"cord-128 cubic feet. I gave them both a nice tip-(they worked, very, very hard). The quality of the wood and the delivery service was exactly what I had hoped for. I have already referred my neighbor to Northside Firewood and will absolutely use them again. Do yourself a favor, buy from Northside as they know how to measure firewood, in any amount that you want. You will get great firewood at a terrific price, from nice people.
