TURN AROUND AND FIND ONE OF THE HUNDREDS OF CONCRETE COMPANIES IN TOWN WHO WILL DO YOUR PROJECT RIGHT "THE FIRST TIME," as George claims he does on his website for Duffie Driveway Solutions.
We planned a major project with the owner, George Duffie III, that carried a high-dollar price tag (4 sidewalks, 2 concrete pads, grading, stone, a retaining wall, and a parking pad). What they constructed on our property did not match the plans WE signed off on. George's claim on his website--"We're not done until you're happy with what we've built"--is a complete lie. George and his crew attempted to correct their work and admitted they screwed up "royally," but promised to get it right. Shortly after, came an email from George telling me they will not be coming back to our property, and were leaving the unfinished work incomplete.
The Failures & Deceptions:
Dangerous & Non-Functional Slope: National residential building guidelines generally cap steep driveway slopes at 14% to 15%, but they built our circle drive slope at an extreme, dangerous 28%. When we parked a truck with a hooked-up U-Haul trailer on it, the sloped angle was so severe that the trailer wheels literally spun off the ground. The project was explicitly instructed to make our property more user-friendly; instead, they created more obstacles than we began with. Drivers cannot see where they are going and cannot see the retaining wall.
Refusal to Pay for Real Solutions & The $3.99 Reflector: A third-party inspector checked their work and found the drainage pop-up valve was completely disconnected from the pipe--the screws were never even connected to it! When asked for real engineering solutions, George and his crew had none. Their team member Jaden absurdly suggested a $3.99 reflector stick from Walmart would fix our issues. When we finally got George on site with Jaden, Chris, and two crew members in over 100-degree heat, Jaden admitted outright that they were not in a position to work with us to find a real solution because they were simply unwilling to spend what it takes to fix and complete our already very expensive project.
Illegally Incentivized Reviews & False Completion: They hit you with the final bill on what's supposed to be the day of completion. Their policy tells customers to pay after the final walkthrough is completed. Instead, their crew left on Friday, and on Monday George sent a worker to sweep and collect the final payment, and claimed that was my final walkthrough. Expecting George to honor his website claims and adjust anything wrong, I paid in full. Once paid, George went out of the country for nearly 5 weeks and pushed back meetings for over 2 months. Furthermore, they offered a $25 discount to leave a review before checking out, creating a false sense that their work is flawless. Paying for reviews before completion is deceptive and illegal under FTC regulations.
Unauthorized Scope Cuts & Double Plans: George worked off two sets of plans when I only signed off on one. Neither set matched what he built. They substituted a straight retaining wall for the curved wall we signed off on. They cut our dimensions drastically--robbing us of 27.2% of our usable parking pad area and over 15% of our retaining wall length, without issuing change orders or financial refunds for omitted materials.
Severe Workmanship Errors & Unsquare Pour: They poured a pad for a metal building and were off by 4 inches. Our building installer (who spoke Spanish and communicated with us using a translation app) caught their 4-inch error on installation day! When they busted up the original pad to redo it, we discovered large roots and sinkholes underneath from bad site prep. An employee admitted the repour was a "blessing in disguise." If the building installer hadn't caught their mistake, it would have been a disaster.
Non-Compliant Wheelchair Sidewalks: Our plans called for uniform 5-foot-wide sidewalks, specifically designed for wheelchair access as discussed with George. Out of the four sidewalks, this one, had 14 sections, and only 1 measured 5 feet. The rest ranged from 3.8 ft to 4.10 ft. As construction progressed, George stopped showing up to oversee the project entirely, then immediately left the country once he collected the final payment.
No Quality Control or Final Walk-Through: They NEVER (even to this day) have completed a final walk-through inspection. Their idea of a walk-through was sending a worker to sweep off concrete and collect money, after which George ghosted us for months before abandoning the project via email.
Do not be tricked by their top-talk sales pitch or paid reviews. This company lacks basic construction knowledge, fails to follow signed plans, and walks away when their mistakes ruin your property. Steer clear!
