I'm a former Step by Step student who got weekly Spanish tutoring throughout middle and high…read moreschool. I credit my confidence, fluency, and grammatical proficiency in Spanish in large part to the wonderful teachers I had there. I didn't exactly have the best introduction to the after-school classes -- my parents forced me to attend for the length of middle school and I resolved to quit as soon as I finished 8th grade -- but I quickly decided to go back to Step by Step in high school when I realized how much of a difference it made in my Spanish. Put simply, the unruly 30-student classes I had with overburdened Spanish teachers at school weren't going to help me improve. At Step by Step, talented teachers devote their entire attention to one or two students for the entire hour they are there. There's no rote memorization or busy work. There's also nowhere to hide. For a shy kid like me, it was exactly what I needed to build up the confidence to practice speaking a language I didn't feel fully comfortable with. And because of Step by Step's focus on conversation, I started to look forward to going to class. I knew that once I was there, I'd be spending most of my time talking to my teachers about anything -- swapping stories, sharing my plans for the future as college loomed, or, as I neared graduation, getting into abstract discussions with Adriana about our personal philosophies and the nature of happiness. The instructors I had at Step by Step poured so much of themselves into their lessons, and were so genuinely warm and caring, that I came to think of them as an extended family. I'm now a sophomore in college and a journalism student. I can't tell you how thankful I am to be able to conduct interviews in Spanish or what a useful skill that was as I applied for journalism internships in Miami this summer. As a sullen middle school student, I never wanted to go to Step by Step. And I never could have imagined how grateful I would be that I did.

The progress my son has made in Spanish has been amazing. His confidence has grown tremendously,…read moreand he's now excelling in his school lessons with excellent grades. We couldn't be happier with the tutoring experience.

Attended an Italian cooking class via Groupon last Saturday at Cuisine Gourmet in the Gables. We…read moreexpected this to be an interactive cooking class, meaning we ourselves would be dicing and sauteing away but that was not the case. Instead, the cooking station is surrounded by a tall counter and bar stools and the group simply watches Claudio cook. Our group had about 12 people, all very friendly 20 and 30 somethings. Claudio started off explaining about different cooking and language classes the institute offers. We then indulged in some prosecco and antipasti (prosciutto di parma, olives stuffed with anchovies and chunks of parmigiana cheese). The first course was gnocchi with Gorgonzola cream sauce, accompanied by an Italian red zinfandel. It was simply boiled gnocchi out of a box and Gorgonzola slowly melted in heavy cream. Several people in our group were kitchen novices but if you are an intermediate cook you are well beyond this step. It could have been spruced up with some crisped pancetta or toasted pine nuts. The second course was rigatoni with a simple bolognese sauce. This dish was delicious and made me rethink my tomato base for my own marinara sauce. Claudio used Pomi tomato puree right out of a carton and it had just the right texture and sugar already added to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes. I will look for this stuff at Publix. For dessert, Claudio served a Marsala dessert wine and a chocolate hazelnut treat he brought from Italy, as well as some store bought panettone. The chocolate treat was somewhere between a block of chocolate and a really dense brownie. All in all, we had a fun afternoon and met some nice people. If you're expecting to improve your culinary skills, you will be disappointed.

Grateful for the peace of mind!…read more I have been using The Sunshine Method tutoring services for over 1 year and I am very happy with the experience and the results. Last year my daughter, started high school, needed help in math as she was struggling and apparently did not have a solid foundation from her middle school. As a devout and hard working parent, I felt helpless; but after reading about The Sunshine Method, I felt a sense of relief. My daughter's grades in math improved and she was happy with the tutors. Subsequently, my son needed a comprehensive Math review for his SAT and I could not be happier with the results. The tutor was excellent. In addition, it has been very beneficial to have my accounts combined into one and the flexibility they offer. I highly recommend. Thank you, Dr. Gonzalez

Brianna Sutton was a tutor for both my sons. She cancelled #1 appointment 38 mins before it was…read morescheduled. When #2 appointment rolled around she was very rude during their meet and greet hour and kept speaking over my son, not allowing him to speak. I tried a couple of times to tell her what he was saying and she began to silence me by telling me that she can only take answers from the child. To which I advised, I'm only saying exactly what he was trying to tell her. She proceeded to tell me that her volume is all the way up and she hears me clearly, so... It got to the point where my son stop answering her with his words and began using hand signals. During their meet and greet she revealed that she had been a elementary teacher for 8yrs -i cannot understand how. My 9yr old son, who is a people's person with an outdoor personality was very unengaged. She did not capture him in the slightest. She was more interested in using the 45mins they had together to tell him of her trips to Latin America with her family and her love for making music, then to to figure out how to capture my son's attention and keep him engaged. My goodness -I can go on and on about how badly the lesson went. Can you believe this woman began the lesson by yawning and telling my child she was feeling tired from staying up too late the night before RIGHT AFTER my child told her he was feeling EXCITING about starting tutoring. Then she had the audacity to cancel all future appointments with my child at the beginning of their next appointment with NO notice. The experience with this company has been extremely disappointing and unprofessional.
