Jamaican beef patty a la puff pastry.
Jonathan S.

I don't have a high opinion of catering companies. They don't ever leave a good impression. I remember sad, bite sized appetizers. I remember chicken that was overcooked, then reheated and covered in a terrible sauce. I remember fish that smelled like cat food. I remember store bought dessert that I gladly ate in an attempt to suppress the memory of the "food" I had to endure. (Suddenly, that frozen pie from Walmart is a godsend.) Best Chef isn't any of those things. Chef Nicole and her trusty Sous-Chef went beyond anything I could've expected. Our appetizers were fried sweet plantains, and puff pastry Jamaican patties served with a red pepper sauce on the side. The beef in the Jamaican patties was nicely seasoned and the pastry was soft and flaky. It was a great take on the Caribbean classic. The main course was a beautifully presented coconut curry chicken served with jasmine rice, green beans, red peppers, and peanuts, then topped with sweet diced mangos. The chicken was flavorful, without overdoing it on the spices and the sweet mango was a perfect touch. Dessert is where the Sous-Chef showed off his specialty as a pastry chef. We had profiteroles filled with cookie dough, then halved and served with ice cream, sliced strawberries, and chocolate shavings. I was blown away by the quality of the meal that Chef Nicole made and especially that it was made from scratch. How do I know it wasn't pre-cooked? Chef Nicole doesn't just bring food to your dinner party, she makes everything fresh on the spot. I'm talking total kitchen takeover and table service. Table service! In my own house! Mind. Blown. I fully recommend the services of Best Chef. It was a wonderful experience and I can tell that Chef Nicole loves what she does and has a team that share her dedication to quality and creativity. Now I just need my wife to invite more people over for another dinner party. Never thought I'd say those words.

If you're looking for a professional chef with amazing food. Nicole is the Best Chef in the ATX area! I celebrated my birthday in a vacation home in Buda, Tx. Chef Nicole came prepared for any mishaps (Like the oven in the main kitchen not working). She was able to improvise and use the grill and the guest quarters kitchen without causing in delays in serving. Everything was plated beautifully and tasted great!

Chicken Strips and Grilled Rib-Eyes

Nicole is professional, competent, organized, and an excellent chef! She was punctual, arriving with all of the groceries she needed to cook a delicious meal for 20 people. She and her assistant prepared grilled rib-eyes, garlic mashed potatoes, green chile mac and cheese, and red pepper asparagus. She made chicken strips for the kids, which the adults loved as well. She even converted my nephew, who disliked steak into a steak lover! I can't say enough great things about Nicole. Thank you for making our celebration fabulous!

I recently surprised a group of 8 girls at a bachelorette party with brunch made by THE BEST CHEF (no pun intended...) Nicole! The food was absolutely incredible. Nicole showed up at 7 AM to begin prepping the meal with everything she had bought from the store herself. She had everything ready to go on time at 10 AM right as the girls woke up and came downstairs to see the surprise. The food was delicious - fresh fruit, stuffed French toast, vegetable strata, opened faced smoked salmon and avocado sandwiches, and a granola & yogurt. She even made us mimosas! Many of the girls (some of which are very picky eaters from California) said this was their favorite part of the bachelorette trip to Austin. We could go on and on about Chef Nicole - so I highly recommend her!

Richard went above and beyond anything we could have asked for our wedding and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a full service caterer and staffing for your wedding and/or event. We initially reached out to Richard looking for a vendor to make appetizers for our wedding (we had different vendors for the other courses). He had a wide selection of foods choices, where we selected four appetizers, our personal favorite (and the one with rave reviews from our guests) was the Mediterranean Grilled Lamb Chops with Cilantro Mint Aioli. In addition to the food, Richard offered very competitive pricing on other services as well - servers, bartenders, linen rentals, silver wear, full bar package, and so on. He was very conscious of our budget and offered multiple alternatives for each decision, which was greatly appreciated. Since our reception was at a venue where we could bring our own food and alcohol, it also required us to take care of everything else. Having Richard to take care of so many items was such a huge blessing.

The servers were so helpful, friendly, and joyful during and before event. There were even three chefs, one of them a head chef, actually in attendance making food at the party. After the party, I found out that DeSilva even made a lot of custom orders for the party guests. Positive critique from the party attendees was that some of the food was cut too large to eat in one bite and they were not served with silverware such as the salmon shooters. The negatives: the owner missed her appointment to view our space, then showed up late to the reschedule appointment, and showed up at the start of the party. The owner's response was that she was bringing the hot food and wanted to show up as close to the party start as possible to keep the hot food hot. Showing up at the start of the party did not give us time to inform her of a few changes we made. We had purchased additional food to serve as sides to their passed hors d' oeuvres because there was lot of concern from our HQ the closer we got to the party about alcohol consumption, and concern from our employees about being full. We were going to put this out ourselves but the chefs from the caterer insisted that they would put the food out for us. I don't want to really go into it, but they put our food out so late and in such a small quantity that I feel like it was a power move by the chef to make sure their food received a spotlight. We should have served our sides ourselves as planned because our people love that type of stuff. There was a lot of waste. Part of our event package was pre-packaged to-go boxes for our guests which were to include cupcakes and macaroons. We received 150 cupcakes which received mixed reviews, some extremely good and some not, but no macaroons. We do appreciate the owner attempting to make it right by bringing fresh macaroons for our holiday lunch (arrived after the lunch) but we only received 47 boxes with two macaroons in each. Our headcount for the party was 150 people, the owner's response when asked if there were 150 macaroons was "I didn't know how many people you have". Also, one box of 2 was missing, and one box only had 1 macaroon in it. I don't think the desserts were worth $3k. The most aggravating issue was that we were charged $500 for cleanup and breakdown and the catering company did not clean up. They brought a grease fryer to cook the food and did not clean up the greasy floors that were caused by using the appliance, 10 over-full trash bags were left leaking all over the floor, the food that was dropped during preparation wasn't attempted to be picked up. They somehow used up all of our cleaning supplies without actually cleaning. The owner's response was that she was told (by someone who was not their point of contact) not to worry about cleaning and that we have a cleaning crew that would come clean the following day. They had been using this person as a point of contact instead of calling me because they "saw I was having a good time". I did not get to join the party until after 8pm, even then I was available to all of our vendors the entire time. She also said that she didn't know if there was a mop. Any of us could have provided this. The catering team was gone within an hour of the party ending. Leaving without telling me even though they did see me to ask me if I liked their cupcake. My team had to come in and clean the filthy nightmare that they left the next day. So in the end, would I recommend DeSilva's Kitchen? Yes, but with caution. The food and service was great, and your guests will enjoy them. However, you may be incredibly frustrated behind-the-scenes.

My Dad was celebrating his 60th birthday and 'The Hungry Peach' just happened to be where we decided to go for lunch. Unfortunately due to COVID The Hungry Peach closed down in August, and recently reopened this past Monday. And boy oh boy am I thankful that they did. First let me say it's slightly challenging to find the restaurant. If you are at the ADAC center you are at the right place. The Hungry Peach is on the 2nd floor and if you follow the directions to the Cafè you'll find the restaurant without any trouble. The service here was unmatched. We were able to speak with the owner Malina and she was absolutely wonderful, a true delight!!! I ordered the Hungry Peach Burger and it was a very good burger the caramelized onions along with the sweet pickles make for a better duo than Batman and Robin. I loved it! My sister ordered the Peach BLT and she said the peach jam made the sandwich amazing. My dad ordered the chicken panini and he loved that as well. Now...not that the lunch wasn't great in and of itself, but this is where The Hungry Peach stole my heart. The Peach Cupcake is without hesitation the BEST cupcake I've ever had in my entire life. My sister said "I will have these cupcakes at my wedding." If you go to The Hungry Peach and don't get a cupcake you are not fully living and are making a big mistake and are a fool, respectfully. Luis, we loved your work! But hey this is all hearsay and was my experience so you go check them out for yourself. And there's no need to thank me, you're welcome!

I made the initial contact with Figs and Honey to make sure they were available on our date and that they would be willing to travel to our obscure and out-of-the-way venue at a nature conservation center in Newton County. After confirming those two details, Mr. P. handled the rest of the planning. He reports that the lines of communication were always open and our event planner (Debbie) made everything very easy. Since we live in Denver, we weren't able to attend a tasting prior to making food selections. The menu is large and varied and everything sounded delicious. Unfortunately, we didn't have an unlimited budget, so we had to narrow things down and make smart choices. We wanted some passed apps while everyone waited for the happy couple to arrive, a few more passed apps after the vow renewal ceremony, and a buffet dinner. We supplied our own cake, which F&H kindly cut and served for us. Here was our menu: Apps: - Greek Skewers (Kalamata olive, grape tomato, artichoke and cucumber in feta vinaigrette} - Caprese Skewers (grape tomato, fresh mozzarella & Kalamata olive in basil pesto) - Bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese - Crostini of barbecued chicken, queso fresco and cilantro slaw - Bruschetta with rosemary white bean hummus, caramelized onion, feta cheese and black olive Entrees: - Marinated Beef Tenderloin Au Pois - Lemon Artichoke Chicken Breast Sides: - Rosemary roasted potatoes - Grilled asparagus - Mixed greens salad We, and our guests, were extremely impressed with both the food and the service. Julia and her crew were on the ball! Anytime they had a question or concern, or anything we didn't even consider, she was quick to ask and come up with solutions. I feel like we really lucked out with excellent food and terrific service without having met anyone from Figs and Honey in person until just a couple of hours before our event began. The pricing was competitive compared to other area caterers, especially considering all the various menu options and the quality of the food. As Julia said to me, you hire a caterer so you can enjoy your party. Figs and Honey made everything run smoothly for us and we can't thank them enough for contributing in a big way to a memorable golden anniversary celebration.

The food was only set up when the event was already halfway over, which was extremely disappointing. While the food itself tasted good once served and the staff was courteous upon arrival, the complete lack of communication and reliability made the event stressful and unprofessional. Catering relies heavily on timing, and this experience fell far short of expectations for the price point. To this day, the owner, Clair, has never reached out to even communicate with me about what occurred. I would not recommend this caterer for time-sensitive events unless they improve their professionalism, punctuality, and client communication.
