Best Buy's are not known for always having the most knowledgeable staff but this one borderlines on people that are stupid. I watched a staffer try to sell a kid a 4K monitor for his new gaming rig. The kid described the rig in detail and the staff person pushed him at a 4K monitor despite the kids machine obviously being geared to 1080P. After the kid had moved on I asked the staff person and I was told that ALL gaming PC are meant for 4K and this person actually believed what they where saying. Add to this staff that does not know how to look up inventory, staffers that avoid talking to customers and actually move away if a customer approaches them. When you approach managers about these types of issues, the response I got was and I am quoting, "You know you can always use Amazon." I want to support local business when I can but the way this place is run I guess Amazon is my only choice. read more

I needed a magic mouse for my computer so I looked online at Best Buy. Carbondale Illinois is the closest store. I checked availability online and was happy they had it. But when I got to the store, what a disappointment. I waited for 30 minutes to get an explanation, and in the end the best the manager could do is say that somebody had checked in the truck early, the items were not available in the store, and it would be several days before they could get more. Are you kidding me? I can get it overnight from any number of online companies. But not today. Of course, my only recourse is to call customer service on an 800 line. No way to talk to his boss. Oh well. Won't do business with them very often. Advice: Call ahead to make sure it's available. Just like the old days. LOL. PS--I wonder what would have happened if I had actually ordered it online as the website suggested. It said if I ordered it online I could pick it up in one hour! read more

I've had so many problems at this Best Buy it's not even funny. Worst customer service staff, management that lies to you...They've got the whole shebang. I like Best Buy but will continue to order online only so this store can close. It's a Best Buy. They are largely the same everywhere. Nothing about this store will shock or amaze you if you've ever been in any Best Buy in any city. I generally haven't had problems getting help when I need it, though the people are awfully compartmentalized in their knowledge. If you have any sort of question outside their little area, they know NOTHING. Biggest complaint? This location, at the very least, has almost nothing relating to technology that came out a few years ago. It's only the newest most modern stuff. Need a backward-compatible adapter, memory card, old controller, etc., you're out of luck and will not find it here. Final point: the cables here are RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. Not a very happy customer... A friend of mine was interested in an Lg TV. We drove up to the St. Louis area to look at more options, but ended up going to the Carbondale location seeing as it was cheaper. However, this tv was open box (certified). This means more than one person looked over the item for any mishaps that could occur. Having purchased said item, when we arrived home there was no power cord inside the box. This was very frustrating so be weary of buying anything open box. read more

BEWARE!! I bought something for my son to pick up with my Best Buy credit card which was found to be the incorrect item. Instead of doing a return to my card they did an exchange. The item that it was exchanged to was again not the item we needed when returned they told us that it can only be returned as a store credit. The associate wasn't knowledgeable enough to give us the correct item and we are stuck with a store credit. I went here Labor Day Monday looking for a couple of new TVs for my parents. Taylor helped my Dad and I. She was amazing! She remained patient while I looked and looked, answered all of my questions, and completed the sale with the upmost level of professionalism. She was awesome! The worst place to shop!! No customer service & when u ask they act like they are put out to help & that's when u finally find someone to help after looking thru out the store! Was wanting to have a DVD installed in my vehicle & was told I would have to come in since they couldn't quote me anything til I brought my vehicle in. Took off work early & drove from Marion to Cdale to be to be told installer wasn't there! This place doesn't even deserve one star!!!! Tonight (7/11/2019) I walked into the Best Buy store in Carbondale, IL (store #492) with the intent on purchasing replacements for the electronics I lost in a recent lightning strike. These include a Samsung 65" QLED 4K tv, a Yamaha surround sound/4K receiver, an Xbox one X, a new graphics card for my PC, and some new telephones. I walked out without purchasing a single item because I could get no one in the store to assist me. I was able to pull some items off the shelf on my own (phones, surge protector, surround sound receiver), but the graphics card was in a locked cabinet and the tv was not out on the floor, and I could not locate the Xbox one X. The lone associate working in the computer department just stood there looking at a couple who was trying to decide which laptop or tablet to get. The two associates that were in the tv department were no where to be found when I needed assistance. The most despicable act of all, however, occurred when I walked up to the manager (?) in the yellow shirt at the front of the store to ask for assistance and he would not even acknowledge me. Even when I said "excuse me" to get his attention he would not look up from his iPhone. I ended up leaving my cart with the merchandise I had already selected in the middle of the store and walking out. I have been an Elite Rewards member for many years now, but this is no way to treat any customer. read more

I would not have given this store a 5 star review if it hadn't been for the service provided by Johnnie who works in the customer service area (can't recall exact section name). He goes above and beyond to try to make sure he finds you what you are looking for at the best price that can be offered. He spent *hours* with us in the store, walking from the large appliance section to TVs, and he's spent more time still making sure everything stays on schedule and things get delivered on a timely basis. When I had first called Best Buy, I'd spoken to someone on the floor who was actually supposed to sell the products. He was not at all helpful. I tried calling back, to see if I'd get someone better, and I am so glad I did. Johnnie didn't stop with 'no, we don't have/do that,' but instead would look to see if there was some way to get the items we were looking for. And when he didn't know the answer to a question, he found someone who did. I have to add that the manager who was working in the TV section the day we made our purchase was also quite exceptional, and I feel terrible that I can't recall his name. I'll try to find out and update this review. Bottom line: find the right person to help, and the shopping experience is great. read more

I purchased an iPhone XR on Feb 11, 2019. I took the phone back on Feb 19, 2019 because there were multiple entries in the calendar dated from the beginning of Jan-Feb 9th. These were all BEFORE I bought the phone. I was reassured the phone was not a used phone. I was told it was an e-mail issue on MY part. I have also talked with Apple about this. They said it is definitely a used phone! Since then; my phone drops calls, inconsistently receives/sends texts, I had to do a network reset because it won't connect to the internet at times, it sometimes makes a long ringing sound when receiving texts instead of one single beep. I went into the store tonight. I spoke with a female manager who said it probably has a factory defect. She was also unwilling to do ANYTHING because it is past the 14 days. I understand today is past the 14 days, Feb 19th WAS NOT! They weren't willing to help me then either. That store is a joke! Maybe this explains why the salesman gave me the wrong color phone and acted like it was going to be a big deal to switch it back out. Too bad we were trying to be understanding and told him it wasn't a big deal and kept that phone. Well played! read more

Just bought a small TV here, and customer service was was really good. Young African-American sales person asked if he could help me. I explained that "I am going to buy a small TV today for my work shop" and that I "just want to look around and pick out which one I want". He said OK and left me to myself, other than coming back by in a couple of minutes and telling me that I should look at the open box deals over by the door because there were a couple good deals on small TVs over there. Nothing but helpful and not pushy in any way. The way customer service SHOULD be. Other Best Buy locations could learn a lesson from this young man. read more

Associate did not understand how credit cards work so when my online order / in-store pick up was flagged for possible fraud due to the large nearly $3000 charge, instead of contacting manager to clear it from interim status, she decided that she would just cancel my order without consulting me. Her thought process was that by cancelling the online order the credit card had not charged me. So, therefore, by her logic I could then go to the store and purchase it directly. She did not consider that Best Buy had already placed a hold on those funds or that the card would take up to 10 days to release them back to me! Ask your manager stupid associate! It was also a debit card and I had called Best Buy's Carbondale store about it and had spoken with this associate about it before she cancelled the order without asking me first! So I spoke with the manager and he was of absolutely no help. I asked to have his supervisor's contact details and he gave me her first name but then said he could not give her full name. Absurd! I called Best Buy corporate offices and complained and they were able to immediately call my bank amd reverse the transaction authorization. Finally, someone who knew what to do! Then I was able to go in and purchase it directly. Carbondale best buy is not the best buy! Their people know nothing and their managers are even more inept. read more

I'm more than happy to write the first review of this place . DO NOT GO HERE!!!! This is one of the worst places to go for a computer or anything electronic. I went in here a while back to get a digital camera and for twenty minutes I waited in the camera aisle, and nothing, the employees saw me and just kept walking past, and then when someone finally was flagged down he didn't know anything about the cameras and was rude! So I tried it again for a computer when I went to school and first thing that happens is the computer crashes. Same thing that happened when I went to get my computer, no one was there to help and when they did help same thing they were super rude. I get it its not the best job in the world and there's a ton of people that you have to deal with, I know, because I worked there. But seriously show some compassion, or at least do what you're getting paid to do and work! My mom just recently went in there and they told her they couldn't do anything for her! And when you call to complain you get put on hold for forever. They don't care how shitty they treat their customers because they're one of the only really big electronic stores in Carbondale so of course they'll always get business. But take my advice and stay away unless you want to leave angry and worse off than what you started. read more

Not happy at all with my recent experience at this Best Buy. I spoke to an associate in the laptop section and told him I wanted to buy the HP Envy x360, 8GB RAM, 1 TB hard drive. The product was tagged on sale for $799. He went and got the computer from the back and rang me up at his register. The computer (packaged in a plain brown box) remained in his hands during the transaction. When giving me the total amount, it rang up at $699. I told him that didn't sound right, since it was cheaper than the tagged price. Instead of double checking the price or the product, he said, "Oh well, that's even better!" This made me think the tagged price was incorrect and that I was getting a better deal than I originally expected. I trusted that he knew what he was talking about and I was happy to save $100. When I got home later that night to open up my new laptop I discovered that he sold me the wrong product. It was an HP Envy, but a lower grade with none of the same specs I wanted. This explains why the price was $100 cheaper. I was immediately disappointed and inconvenienced, but OK, it was an honest mistake. What really got me was when I went to exchange the product. I explained the scenario in detail and I didn't even get an apology. There was no acknowledgment whatsoever of my inconvenience or of the associate's failure to sell the product I requested. Some sort of discount on the model I wanted would have been a nice gesture (due to the associate's misinformation to me) but I at least expected an apology. I've worked in retail most of my life, so I know things happen and sales associates make mistakes. I also know that the customer isn't always right. But it's just common courtesy to acknowledge when you made a mistake and to make the customer feel like you care. I can also attest to the reviews on Google that say associates do not greet customers; I've experienced that numerous times at this store. Most of the employees stand at their work stations talking to one another and you have to approach them for help. It's rude, and just not good customer service. read more
