Clarke's Richmond Deli is a really decent sandwich and salad take-away. They sell a wide range of…read moredifferent sandwiches from standard barms, panini's to baguettes. Their menu's offer delicious combinations of fillings so there is usually something that suits everyone's taste. The food is all of a healthy nature and even their burgers are great quality. I ordered a burger (freshly cooked in a couple of minutes) with raw onions and mayonnaise for just £2 which was served in a large plain white bun; that definitely filled me and I would go back again whenever I'm in need of a convenient lunch. Since they boast such a wide variety of ingredients such as various pre-cooked meats, sliced salads and other condiments, the choice is really yours. In addition, they sell jacket potatoes which sound mouth-watering and tempting (especially on a cold day)! Clarke's Richmond Deli is much better than your average sandwich bar. Plus, the lovely aromas that are emitted make you want to go even more.

If that could be a motto or brand slogan for a deli - sorry butty shop! - then that might be a good one for Clarke's. It seems to denegrate them some what but this succint description of a fine sandwich emporium is meant entirely in the best possible way. There seems to be little mucking about with things like rocket - which I hate, it is horrible no matter how many chefs and foodies use it these days, it's a weed! - Clarke's serve good, some might say traditional sandwiches, in a straightforward manner like roast beef, ham - just ham nowt fancy done to it - and various chickens - coronation and tikka basically - and all at very cheap prices - usually below £3 - for a good size butty.

However, this place wasn't all that bad, though it is more like one of those cafes that you tend to find in the city than elsewhere (though you do find some pretty good ones in the city). However, I did really like this place, the service was pretty good, as was the pot of tea I got. The only thing that disappointed me was that they used ham for the eggs benedict as opposed to bacon.

It was absolutely chock full of very happy looking customers and there was a whole lovely new back room that I'm pretty sure wasn't there last time I was. The service was speedy despite the long queue and the staff friendly despite how busy they clearly were. The decor is lovely, my favourite elements being the giant chandelier and the vintage piano. The atmosphere was really pleasant; the overall vibe of the place manages to convey cool classiness and warmth at the same time. Although the bread of the mozzarella and chorizo panino I ordered was a little floppy and the chorizo a bit a bit too chewy it was tasty nevertheless and the tea I ordered was just right (and with me being such a tea fan you don't often hear me say that!). The cakes looked delicious as well...wish I'd had room for a slice! Will definitely be saving space for the chocolate and Guiness next time! I'm very glad I've rediscovered this hidden gem above Lord Street and will definitely not be leaving so long till my next visit this time.

It is so in need of some new signage to get rid of that terrible font. There is a really grotty rubbish bin right outside the door - presumably for smokers but it's enough to put me off eating there. The interior however is pleasant. I'm not sure why Fenwicks call's itself a coffee shop instead of a Cafe - this is Liverpool, not Amsterdam. Besides the regular tea and coffee there is a good selection of homemade hot food to eat in or take away. Liverpudlians enjoy late nights and later mornings. As at other local cafe's, regular and large breakfasts are served all day. Some of the dishes on the menu can change daily.

It's a lovely little spot and the service is always very friendly and efficient, plus any particular requests are more than happily accommodated. Their breakfasts are the stuff of legend, but that's not to say the rest of the food on offer is lacking in any way. This is proper down to earth cooking, stodgy stuff that might well fur up your arteries but will put hair on your chest and set you up for the day, particularly if it's a chilly one. Plus there's some seating outside for sunnier climes and there's nothing nicer than soaking up the rays with a good coffee and an interesting book. Definitely one to try out if you're located centrally for the day.
