I got out of the Marine Corps in 2009. Like many other Marines I was very skeptical about filing for disability. I had had so many bad and horrible experience experiences with so many attorneys that I just did didn't even wanna bother doing it so I tried to do it on my own. After a few years, I ended up getting myself 50% and I guess I could say I was content with it. As time went on, I decided I wanted to try to get a higher decision rating so I went off and hired an attorney. They were awful, they never contacted me. Never followed up with me. I am so thrilled that I chose Berry Law and Attorney Claire Hillan Sosa to handle my VA disability claim. I started out with a complete denial from the VA even though I have cancer stemming directly from an incident in the Navy. Erin Wetzel and I have been working together for over three years in regards to custody of my daughter. We had an hour long consultation the first time meeting together and I was extremely impressed at the information she could show me, the insight she gave me on why other firms weren't able to get done what I was hoping and a clear plan of action on how we should proceed. I'm familiar with the unfortunate part where once an attorney receives your trust payment all of that communication you had before you hired them goes away. That was never the case when working with her. Unfortunately though a year and half later things had gotten bad again and we had to go back to court. I felt confident that I would be able to get full custody of my daughter this time around due to the previous work Erin had done for me. She cooperated very will with the other attorney(s) that my ex had, she made sure that they were aware of the evidence we had and what would be submitted BEFORE discovery was due. That was an excellent strategy on her part in ultimately helping to reach a full legal and physical custody agreement that I had been trying to get since my daughter was two, my daughter was seven when I finally got full custody. Erin was always very good at reminding me of when everything needed to be filed, and would remind me of documents I hadn't gotten to her yet if there was a deadline approaching. She worked very differently in all the best ways than previous attorneys I had. I always talked with her, never her assistant. I used Berry Law to help me with my diabetes claim I was having issues with due to a bad C&P examiner and a rater who disregarded my treating doctor's medical opinion. I initially claimed it back in 2019. It was denied without an examination. I didn't follow through with an appeal. I learned later that I should have, so I started a supplemental claim application which made an intent to file on May 2023. I submitted the supplemental in September 2023. I had that bad examination in November 2023. The examiner disregarded my in service evidence and submitted a negative TERA medical opinion which resulted in the denial. I had my treating Tricare doctor complete a condition DBQ and a direct service connection medical opinion outlining the in service evidence of elevated blood sugar levels and metabolic lab results showing the inception of my diabetic condition. The rater disregarded the medical opinion as insufficient to the original C&P medical opinion and denied the claim. I contacted Berry Law and we submitted a HLR without an informal conference. The HLR was denied one day after submission with the reviewer continuing the denial. My attorney reviewed my claim file and submitted new and supplemental claims for my other current conditions noted in my VA healthcare records. I gathered evidence, made personal statements and attended exams. I was at 10% at the time I contacted Berry Law. I got to 40% on February 2024. Then 60% on April 2024. My attorney submitted another supplemental claim for my diabetes claim to keep it active with the May 2023 effective date. It was denied again as secondary to my service connected asthma, which I expected as I couldn't get the examiner to evaluate my in service evidence as he stated he could only evaluate the secondary connection. I got to 100% P&T in January 2025 with a February 2024 effective date which got me back pay. I had a case manager take over my diabetes claim and submitted a HLR with an informal conference that he conducted with the reviewer to discuss the in service evidence. The reviewer agreed and granted a duty to assist error. I had another C&P examination and this time the examiner gave a positive medical opinion for my diabetes and multiple complications. I was rated 100% with the May 2023 effective date on June 2025. I'm currently awaiting the rest of my back pay as I had a DFAS audit for my retirement pay. read more

Where to Begin? Well lets give credit where credit is due...THE BERRY LAW FIRM.... Disability from 10% to 90%! Let me explain! I got out of the military in April 1998. I had half of a lung removed, constant migraines, PTSD, and other issues. When I got out, I applied for disability benefits with the help of a local veterans group, with very little success. The V.A. only awarded me a miserable 10% rating of $103.00 a month, apparently that's the value that the V.A. places on 1/2 a lung. I disputed it several times and after 2/3 years of being denied, I gave up. I got discouraged like most Vets do. So from 1998- 2009 I didn't pursue any additional increases in disability because it just seemed so impossibly overwhelming. When I visited the V.A. hospital in Los Angeles in 2009-2010, and chatted with my fellow military brothers. I kept getting the same response, "YOU GOT SCREWED." So I talked to a lady there that helped me file my claim. Now that my claim was filed I needed someone to fight for me. I had a lot of recommendations from friends and family but after speaking to my father, I chose BERRY'S LAW FIRM. My father used them as well and had nothing but fantastic things to say about them. When I retired from the military in 1989 I filed for disability on my back and my teeth from a helicopter crash in 1972 and other health issues from Agent Orange and burn pits in Vietnam. I have used several Veteran Service Officers over the years and have been denied any compensation from the VA in every case. I have spent over $40,000.00 in dental bill and have had 4 major back surgeries and am fused from my tail bone to my neck. 2. My Review of Berry Law Firm Prior to hiring Berry Law as my representation, I was really struggling with the red tape from the government. I engaged Berry Law based upon the recommendation of fellow US Navy vet, CAPT John Cordle, USN (RET) for help with a claim for service connect sleep apnea that was initially denied. He was facing the same issue with the VA. I came to Berry Law at the recommendation of my son-in-law, an Iraqi War Vet, who'd seen heavy combat with the Army's 4th Stryker Brigade. I must say, that I am so over whelmed that it is hard to believe, It is all over. That Va said it would be 1 to 2 to 3 years before they would even look at it again if I were to resubmit it. I started my journey with the Berry Law Firm in January of 2024 after having much difficulty getting past my initial VA rating. From the time I initially spoke with the coordinators of the Berry Law Firm and then Taylor taking my case, I've had nothing but a smooth and painless experience. He was on top of everything! From our initial interview, case review and determining the way ahead, I had full confidence in Taylor, his assistant Morgan and the Berry Law Firm. Don't get me wrong, we all had to struggle through the timelines of the VA and its missteps, including having to undergo re-examinations, identifying other ailments, connecting secondaries and pursuing other opportunities, but I was accepting of it. It was made clear to me on the path that lay ahead. It wasn't sugarcoated. What was painful was the long pause due to the changes by the passage of the PACT Act. When the backlog started to clear and momentum was once again gained, I was swamped with more scheduling and additional C&P examinations. Nonetheless, we persevered. Denials came and some were approved. There were a lot of zeroes as well. But Taylor and the firm's immediate and timely responses to the VA on my behalf was most impressive. I am now rated at 100% disabled as of two days ago. I am several thousand miles away in Guam, but I felt like Taylor and team were just in the next city over. Berry Law accepted my case several months ago. I haven't had much contact with them since signing paperwork. I want others to understand that they clearly state in their correspondences that there are ways to contact them if they want information about the their case. People need to realize that it can take months to years to resolve issues. The VA gets tens of thousands of benefit requests each year that slows down the process. Most people hire lawyers in the appeals process and should understand how long you waited for the VA to respond only to get rejected because the paperwork wasn't filled out correctly. I'm pretty sure that if they had information to give you on your claim that they would contact you immediately and fill you in. I did my research before using their services and they are good at doing their jobs. I look at it that if I receive anything more than what I'm getting now that I came out a winner. People may feel that they are just a number to the law firm due to the lack of communication but they could be waiting to hear from the VA. Maybe sending out an email once a month letting people know that they are working hard to resolve issues would ease everyone's concerns. I spoke to them over the phone twice; emails about five times and text twice, in those conversations they introduce themselves if they are new to your case and reach out for clarification. Even though I haven't spoken to them in a while, I'm giving them five stars until they deserve otherwise. Be patient and let them work hard for you. read more
