We didn't get an early start and by the time we arrived there were lines miles away from the entrances. Police were directing traffic down different streets toward different parking areas. So plan to arrive early. Parking is in grassy fields surrounding the fairgrounds and there is a *lot of it so plan to walk quite a way to and from your vehicle and to drive 'off road' for a bit. Definitely do not bring your sports car if you can help it because those fields have ruts. The road way we walked in on was dirt and they did have a tractor pulling a cart if you wanted a ride that went by occasionally. Strollers and/or wagons for the smaller ones if an absolute must. There are a few entrances into the fairgrounds so make note of which entrance you are parked near. There are maps of the fairgrounds available inside (we were not offered one upon entry) at an information kiosk we stumbled upon. They also have designated 'meet up' spots in case you get separated from members of your group so maybe find those and let the kids know where to meet up if they get lost. And we *did come across some lost children who were frightened out of their wits so please do let the little one's know what to do if they get separated from you. (Yes, someone helped them locate their family but it still breaks my heart see how scared they were.) We enjoyed our visit to the Deerfield Fair. Although we did not partake of any of their ride options, we very much enjoyed their farm demonstration and exhibits. From the pig barn to award winning veg and chutneys it's a lot of fun. We also took in some heavy stock pulling competition in one of the outdoor areas. I can assure you the shady side was full, so plan on getting a seat early if you need a rest and shade (or sun). I really enjoyed the roving Pirate dressed in full gear, playing pirate and nautical music on his motorized pirate ship. Brought a smile to my face! There are plenty of food options here. Definitely something for everyone and we tried a couple of options. It was a beautiful day and the fair was super busy so there were definitely lines for food no matter the time of day. The staff in the food trucks were all lovely even with all the crowds needing attention. We took a walk through the kids petting zoo, and a tent full of old tractors that was very interesting. They also had a demonstration of several old motorized farm equipment pieces. Whether you are here for historic farm equipment, modern rides, fair food, cow barns, pigs, award winning veg or tractor pulls, Deerfield Fair has you covered. Wear you walking shoes!

It's located on 100 acres and during those four days, it had approximately 100,000 visitors. I really enjoyed experiencing this historic fair. It happens annually every September and probably the largest fair I've been to. I love the autumn and New England setting; it just feels super New England. Parking was plentiful when we went but I can understand if people get lost since there were so many cars. Also, if you have a low frame car, becareful because there were tons of deep potholes under all that grass. There were so many vendor tents, activities, and events. There were horse shows, live music, circus, magic show, rides, fair food, and petting zoo to name a few. I really enjoyed the variety of foods; so many to choose from. There were tons and tons of people. My family and I had a great time.

Barbells, band saws, cymbals, farm implements -- all welded together in artistic ways that guide you along the path. Meanwhile, flora and fauna of unique varieties abound. Benches and chairs here and there. We strolled along and spent about 90 minutes doing the loop on the grounds. So much to see, so many deep breaths to take, plenty of picnic spots. They have a large variety of apples but are expensive. The cider donuts are NOT fresh and are $10 for 6. There was no hot or cold apple cider. Be careful when picking pumpkins, a lot of them have rot or have large blemishes from being dropped/insects doing their thing. The farmer followed us around and made comments that were not helpful. I would only come back for apple picking, for the variety.

Apple-picking here is the one thing I look forward to once fall and harvest season rolls around. It's family run and they are so nice and willing to show you where you can find the best apples. The grounds are very scenic and well-maintained but if you have problems walking amongst hilly terrain, stick to the lower orchards. They also have a small farm stand with their own veggies and also locally made honey and maple syrup. I also noticed on their website that they offere a reasonably priced "harvest subscription" (bascially like a CSA). I actually went here today as a matter of fact!! Day two of their season. Got a bushel of (delicious) Paula Reds, 2 heirloom tomatoes, and 4 (very fresh) ears of corn. They also had squash and mini-pumpkins along with other kinds of tomatoes. Once Halloween gets closer, they will have quite the selection of pumpkins. I highly recommend this orchard- whether it's just yourself or the whole family. :)

Hurry up and wait. But...the turkey is well worth waiting for. Juicy, tender delicious. I've read some other reviews for Raymond's and I think there are more factors involved than just blaming Raymond's for the way their turkey turned out. Overcooking, under buying the size, etc. In all the years I have never got a turkey that was dry and tough as other describe. I go during the year and buy turkey pies, but my favorite are their chicken pies. They don't always have them, so if you are interested, call ahead. They slice the chicken which I love. I think the slicing allows for more chicken in the pie than cubes. I want a chicken pie, not a gravy pie. The turkey is the same. Jam packed with turkey. I keep several in the freezer especially in the Winter. There are very few placed that have good turkey and chicken pies. Trust me, I've tried them all. They also sell sliced cold turkey, turkey salad, al the typical Thanksgiving sides, turkey meatballs, meatloaf, shepherd's pie, soups, turkey burgers, turkey sausage and various turkey parts. This is a place well worth trying, and if you go at holiday time make sure you are ready to hurry up and wait. They can't help that they are slammed with business at that time of year.

Visiting James & Molly over Independence Day Holiday and they invited me to play at their home…read moreclub. Molly & I played he front nine on a very warm & humid Tuesday. It's a fun course with a short par 3 over a pond on #6, #7 is a very interesting short par 4 that is straight out and then an acute 45 degree angel over a creek, #8 is a very challenging par 3, with a downhill fairway, over a natural area and creek to narrow green. All in all a very fun & challenging front 9. The tee boxes are all in good shape, the fairways are all grassy and green and the greens are slick and fast. We played 9 holes right at a 2 hour pace. I'll be looking forward to a return to play the remaining 9.
