It's a cozy, intimate spot for a couple of friends. The dimly lit red bar had plenty of seating at 8:30 on Saturday. CASH ONLY, so come prepared or use the ATM in the bar. Bartenders are friendly, quick, and professional.

5/5. No notes. You need to come here. This is a great dive bar in Bridgeport. Tons of friendly people and the bar tenders are great. They sometimes have great live music, and when they don't there is a vintage juke box with nothing but classic rock bangers. The beer selection is great. Pretty much any domestic or any of the major imports you could want. They usually have at least one very uncommon beer at a time, too.

Bernice's Tavern is the best bar in Bridgeport and a top dive bar in the whole city of Chicago! It's a shot and beer kind of place, with an old jukebox that still runs on cash and you pick songs out of a binder. Beer list rotates and always has a few European options paying homage to it's Lithuanian roots. Decor is authentic and classic as the bar has been family owned and operated since it's inception in 1965. Now run by Stingo Steve, the son of founders John and Bernice, there are fun events several nights a week. Not every week, but many weeks, Sunday's best Bloody Mary this side of the Mississippi, Wednesday's Stingo (Steve's Bingo) with great prizes, Thursdays open mic for musicians, and live music occasionally on other nights of the week. Between 9pm-1am the bar is usually pretty busy especially on Stingo and live music nights, but service is quick and friendly no matter how busy it gets. I can't recommend checking it out enough! https://www.chicagomag.com/chicago-magazine/february-2022/chicagos-best-neighborhood-bars/bernices-tavern/

I found this place by accident. I am staying at an Air bnb nearby and I wanted to go somewhere for a beer. This place seemed inviting so I went in. Little did I know I walking into their Wednesday night free Stingo (Bingo) game. Everyone was very friendly, especially Steve, the owner of the bar. It's definitely a locals spot, and while everyone seemed to know each other, they were all very welcoming to new comers like myself. I had a a lot of fun and even won a round of Stingo and got a prize. I will see definitely come back to this bar the next time I'm in town. Stop in for a drink and a great time!

if there's a better dive bar in chicago, i haven't found it. just exactly what i look for in a classic establishment. cash only, friendly bartenders, awesome decor, and weird movies on the TV. honestly reminds me a little of snake n jake's in new orleans, which is high praise. if you're around bridgeport - make sure you stop in.

what'll you be having?

Where/how do I find the history of this bar. I think it may have been owned by my fathers sister? I live in Miami so I cannot talk to owner.

Decent townie bar on the edge of Bridgeport. You either go to Cork and Kerry or you go here. Went…read morehere recently on the day of a Sox playoff day game, didn't feel like walking the extra distance to Cork and Kerry wasn't sure if they were even open yet? A friend recommended I go here, so we did. Got there early cause we knew the place would be mobbed. Sat outside on the sidewalk and they had plenty of tables and chairs and umbrellas. Waitress name was Claire and she took pretty good care of me and my son and his buddies who showed up eventually . After a few buckets, we decided we needed food. Had the breaded steak sandwich as did my son. Slightly above average for bar food, but obviously not as good as Ricobene's. But still above average. Wash that down with a few buckets, and it was averagely priced. Bar in the inside is kind of tight, as it's not a huge bar. But the bartender was friendly enough. The manager/owner came out and was directing us where to sit , cause he's telling us it's 11 AM it's gonna get really crowded, real quick. Which it did , but at least we got to eat and have some beer first, before it got out of control with wall-to-wall people. Which was expected . But again you're two blocks north from the White Sox play, why wouldn't it get out of control and it was a playoff game. I did enjoy the service and the atmosphere... since as a Chicago sports fan you don't get many playoff opportunities, so it's always a fun atmosphere. Turtles was good and I would go there again. Recommend!

I would suggest coming on a day without a Sox game occurring or with a smaller group since seating is limited. The bar was clean and the staff were nice! I did not eat any of the food since I came around 10 pm, so if you would like to try the food I would say come earlier in the day. Would I come here again! Maybe, since the drinks were cheap (two gin and club soda for $17) and the staff were great.

There is an epic wall mural that features different aspects of the city, including a huge Barack Obama head. As I said: epic. The bar is separated into two distinct parts, divided by a counter/tables in the center (you have to walk all the way around if you want to switch sides or move at the tables). On one side is the bar and a few TVs to watch the games, giving it a louder sports bar kind of vibe. On the other side there are a bunch of tables--almost like picnic tables. It feels very communal and laid-back. It's a place you can sip on drinks and easily spend time with a group of friends. The Cove is very group-friendly. My favorite part? My friend brings his dog there and it's no problem. Is this bar a dive? Yes. Do I care? No. Do I actually love it? Absolutely. Best bar on the area, hands down.
