And, they are so very nice. I especially want to thank Will, who was generous with his time and expertise in answering my many questions, taking place over several phone calls, and also Courtney, for responding to my online questions. Atlas Preservation is one of very few retailers in the United States that carry linseed oil paints and supplies, including Ottoson paints imported from Sweden. As a long-time historic preservation advocate and craftsman, I am well aware of the importance and benefits of using appropriate maintenance and repair materials. At the recent International Preservation Trades Workshop (in 2023), Michiel Brouns highlighted the importance of using linseed oil paints and related products for historic buildings. (For detailed information on why and how to use linseed paints, see Brouns' excellent book, "Linseed Paint and Oil: A Practical Guide to Traditional Production and Application"). The moisture-wicking property of linseed paints is in contrast to alkyd and acrylic paints that seal moisture in, which inevitably leads to peeling paint and wood rot. Linseed paints are durable and long-lasting, cost-effective, and provide an environmentally sustainable alternative to petrochemical paints - for both historic and non-historic buildings - and Atlas Preservation is an outstanding source for obtaining these valuable and often-overlooked traditional products. In short, I highly recommend Atlas Preservation for their expertise, focus on high-quality products, and friendly and helpful service!
