I had read many reviews about Miguel and was sad to see he was out of business... and was glad to learn he was still wielding scissors at Berkeley Barbers. The place is a time capsule of barbershops of old and is worth a visit just to see it. As for the haircut... my girlfriend likes it a lot. What a gem! First off the interior of this barbershop is so cool, I feel like I stepped back in time and my daughter had a blast looking through the toys and magazines while big brother got his cut. But most importantly Tony was awesome! I have been cutting my 14 year old's hair for years because we've had way too many bad haircuts but Tony has put an end to that, kiddo looks so sharp and ready for graduation and he was really kind and engaging with my teen while he worked. I decided to give this place a try due to the good reviews. I sat down, proceeded to give a very clear direction to my haircut and even showed photos of the cut that I have had for the last few years. Moments into the cut he buzzed ALL of the hair off half of the back of my head. I immediately asked what he was doing and he showed me the damage. At that point it was either do damage control on what he had done, or buzz off all of my hair. I decided to try and salvage my hair... but even after he was done, I HATE IT! This is the worst haircut of my adult life and I'm in my 50's. I am furious. I may still have to buzz off the rest of my hair and wait for it all to grow back in or wear a hat for the next month. read more

I went to Angelo's Barbershop a couple of days ago for the first time. I made an appointment with Brenda and asked her about the rates. She informed me that the rate was $35 for a haircut, and then I asked her if they offer a different rate for seniors, which she said was $30. My hair was fairly long and I instructed her to cut just an inch all around. When I could see that she was finishing off my cut I asked her to trim the top, which she hadn't. She told me she had, but she had not; this bothered me, also the fact that she had not bothered to trim my sideburns. At the cash register she asked for $35, I reminded her that she quoted me $30 for seniors; she informed me that that did not apply for a scissor's cut. Why didn't she inform me of this on the phone, which would have been the logical and honest thing to do? Regardless, I will never go to that barbershop again, for two reasons, she gave me an adequate haircut, but not great, and she lied, which is the main reason I will never give her my business. * In response to R. Heathcliff's diplomatic response. I appreciate your courteous explanations to the issues I brought up in my review; however, I adamantly believe that Brenda intentionally misled me with the price for my haircut. Keep in mind, even though I was deceived I gave her a six-dollar tip on top of the thirty five dollars, which I shouldn't have considering she quoted me $30. Also, keep in mind, which bothered me more, any other person would have immediately given me the senior's price since there was a miscommunication; Brenda did not; she was quite emphatic with the regular price. Also, I must repeat, when someone asks if there is a senior price you stipulate the exceptions; that's common sense. Oh, by the way I got my haircut on a Friday, not Saturday. Thank you again for your response, and the offer for a free haircut, but it's not about a free haircut; it's about honesty and integrity. read more

I paid $30 for an uneven 20 minute haircut and a hole in my hair. For reference I have attached a photo and circled the gaping hole on the top of my head. To preface all this, it is my first time and last time I'll be using this barber shop. I was in need of a haircut and my usual place was booked. I went on yelp and found that there was pretty good reviews on this spot and it seemed pretty affordable so I went out on a whim and called them and was able to make a same day appointment. My haircut is pretty simple. I just want a 3 and 2 on my sides and an inch trimmed off the top. The sides were done fine and I have no complaints so I didn't feel like it was fair to leave a one star review. The top however is where I have an issue. I asked for an inch off the top and to have my hair thinned out. I told my barber that I usually just spike my hair upwards in order to give him an idea of how my hair should go. So the barber went and started to cut and after finishing everything seemed to be fine. It is difficult to tell if anything is wrong as I can't just do my hair on the spot. So I went home, showered, and did my hair and found that a chunk of my hair was gone on the top if my head. It looks like just that top left section of my hair was cut way too short compared to the rest of my hair leaving a unpleasant and uneven hole in my head. Things happen and it may just be an off day or the barber but I will not be coming back and I think it is only fair that I warn others. read more
