The "before" pictures don't show an old wooden, 2-story play structure that took up the entire side yard. We also had a small pergola in the main backyard which didn't provide much shade or privacy. Enter Jason and his thoughtful design which included: removal of all lawns and over-planting by previous owners (which required 1,500 gallons of water per sprinkler cycle), demolition of said play structure and pergola, installation of high quality turf and putting green, updated sprinkler system, drought-tolerant plantings, new lighting, beautiful hardscape for our new side yard patio (where play structure was), not to mention a fabulous new custom pergola which extends across the entire back patio providing shade and privacy! Second, you'll be working with Everton, the owner. That makes communication easier - he's not always on site, but responds quickly when you reach out. In our case, it was a good size project: demolishing a concrete patio, installing a new drain system, two sets of steps, adjacent to a pool, and with a narrow alley access (no truck to the back yard). It took a little longer than expected, but the final result was worth it. The demo crew was efficient, neat, and worked safely. The prep crew spent a good deal of time installing the drain system, note the photo of the tie-in to the downspout - that was not in the proposal, but they felt it was the way to go. Too, they spent hours grading and leveling to insure the base was prepped correctly. The install crew took their time, and I was really pleased with the detail of the odd cuts required - see the angles and corners. As well, when I mentioned it, Everton made a special order to get grey drains for me (see photos), as they just looked better with the paver we chose (stock is black). The install crew even ripped up a section to install an additional drain right below the downspout for the patio cover I was having another contractor install. No one asked them to do that - they just felt it was the right thing to do. It's the extra details like these I feel set them apart.

I hired Skywood Landscaping to complete a major renovation of my house's backyard primarily because…read moreof their stellar reputation and expertise with design and installation of paved patios. Ken Truong (owner of Skywood) and his crew were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Ken carefully listened to my objectives during an initial site visit. I didn't have a particular design in mind, but within about 10 days Ken was able to prepare a written proposal that included 2D and 3D photos of what the finished landscape renovation might look like. This was really helpful because only few iterations of discussion and revisions were needed to complete the final proposal. Demolition of the existing backyard included removal of trees, artificial turf, patio blocks, and a considerable amount of soil. This phase was completed relatively quickly and without any problems due to Skywood's obvious experience. The next phases included installation of drainage pipes and conduits for lighting and irrigation and then covering with rock base and pavers. Skywood's efforts during these phases included an uncommonly high level of attention to detail to ensure that rainwater would flow away from the house and into the storm drains. The final phases included installation of a redwood fence, installation of rock veneer and capstone to cover a retaining wall, and installation of lights, plants and irrigation to produce a really beautiful garden. Despite several hot summer days, Ken and his crew always had a friendly, positive attitude and left the worksite clean each day. I give Skywood Landscaping my highest recommendation, and I would surely hire them in the future.
