I enjoyed the Norwegian masters, there were Edward Munch paintings I've never seen. The last gallery has the Last Dance restaurant & exhibit about the AID's crisis in the 1980's & the cruising scene around the corner. We paid $15 per person for admission to all four art buildings. We could've spent a week here but prioritize Norweigan art that we can't see at home. A lot of construction wowed taking place in front of each museum building and they actually looked like they were closed. I was surprised at how empty the museum galleries were. I appreciate the individual lockers to hang my bag and jacket while exploring the exhibits.

The ice sculptures and creativity is just stunning. Everything's made of ice and is a work of art. I definitely recommend dressing warmly because the coat and gloves just aren't enough. It's freezing! Your body does adapt after some time but it's a lot more comfortable if you come prepared. The seats are also made of ice but are covered in furs to make you a little more comfortable. There are little seating sections, separated by walls, giving you a bit of privacy with your party. The lights are dimmed and the ice is lit up in beautiful colors. It's truly an experience. The bartender pops in and out, so that he doesn't freeze to death, so be patient. This was definitely a one of a kind experience. There are a few packages to choose from so you can tailor the experience to you and your desires.

We went late one evening to try it out, as none of us had been to a place like this before. Since they were in the process of carving new ice sculptors, admission was half price. For 100kr, we got a huge warm coat, gloves, and 1 drink. We had a blast inside. It was SUPER cold, but the attire kept us warm. We just couldn't take the gloves off for long. The bartender was really cool and hung out with us for a bit as it was really slow. There was a party of 3 when we first entered, but ended up being the only ones in there by the end. They had a pretty good drink menu, however the drinks were EXTREMELY weak. To the point where I didn't taste any alcohol and didn't receive any buzz. It was like drinking kool-aid. The establishment opened January 2013 and is the "home" for writers in Bergen, as well as a stage for debates, readings, launches, kids' events etc. In addition it has a brasserie and a café on the first level. One Tuesday every month they are hosting the event "Ut med språket", focusing on linguistics and the history and meaning behind common and less common words in the Norwegian language. The show is lead by the TV personality Linda Eide, together with professor in Nordic languages, Gunnstein Akselberg. They also have various guests attending, in addition to an engaged audience. Last Tuesday that guest happened to be my sister, invited to present dialect words from our home town, in addition to discuss her work on her master thesis; looking into the use of "-ish" in the Norwegian language. The show is entertaining (in Norwegian) and is representing just one of the experiences you can get from visiting Litteraturhuset in Bergen.

Only 2 or 3 buildings contained actors who recreate characters from Bergen's history. You are free to ask the actors any questions about Bergen's history. There's a short play in the main square where you learn about the perils of Norwegian dentistry in the 1800s. I'm happy the museum preserves these old buildings, but it did have the feel of a tourist trap. Would have preferred seeing more actors to activate the many empty buildings.

Our local friends love this bar and often invite us to meet them here. When the theatre is in session- it's quiet, chill, and relaxing. There's a small surge of people during intermission and then it gets crowded and lively after a show lets out. The beer/wine selection is sufficient for essentially a theatre bar and it's a great place to have a group of friends meet up. The library and balcony provide a slightly more intimate setting than the main room, but it's generally good for conversation as there isn't music playing loudly or a band to overpower conversation. A bonus moment happened in which we also shared a beer with one of Norway's most famous actors (as declared by our friends). Apparently it's a performer's chill spot for a nightcap.

It plays a wide range of music.
