We went there for the playground but there wasn't any spaces in front of the playground so we had to walk just a little to get there. It's a really nice park to go to if you're in the area. They have a nice field, playground, basketball courts, and pickle ball courts. The playground is a little different from others because it has a zip line for kids. You hang onto a handle and with enough momentum you can swing yourself to the other side. My daughter loved that when we went to a park in California and we just never saw one of those in Hawaii. But now we know... They do exist! The playground is also in the shade so you won't get fried when waiting for your kids to finish playing. And there is a bench to sit and rest while you wait. Great park, we hope to go back there soon.

My husband works for the DOE and wanted to "check out" this park last year. Although we live in Moiliili, the drive is quick since it's right off the freeway. So glad we did... It's now one of our top 3 parks to take the boys! The facilities are well maintained, shaded by the huge trees that offer parents and kids shelter from the midday sun. My oldest son (4.5yrs) loves the swings and riding his scooter around the basketball and tennis courts. My youngest (3rd) enjoys jumping off the concrete benches and mastering the playground (which is more elaborate than the usual city park playgrounds around town). There's spinning chairs, slides, a mini zip line, drums, and chimes that kids can make music with! So cool! Parking is fairly easy to find around the park perimeter. Area has been consistently safe when we take the kids (about once every couple of weeks). Great for all ages but adult supervision is still recommended esp for the littles.

There is also (1) picnic table inside the park. There is a large field where kids sometimes run, practice soccer, or baseball. But I like to come here to take my furry son to run around............ There are a lot of dog owners in this neighborhood, and we like to take our doggies here so they can play, and socialize. The park is clean, the grass is cut on a regular basis, and the rubbish is emptied every week by the City & County of Honolulu parks & recreations workers. I would like to extend a Big "MAHALO" to the public city workers for keeping this park clean, and in great shape! The dog owners are very responsible, as we pick up after our dogs. We even pick up after the irresponsible dog owners that do not pick up after their dogs...........but if you're a dog owner, you should know better than to take care of your doggie's business! The Liliha district of Honolulu is primarily residential, but has its share of commercial areas…read morethat makes this part of Honolulu quirky and a place to visit when you're in the neighborhood, like I was. With that said, I came here to Pu'unui community park pretty much out of the blue, just to check things out. With the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing, it helps the individual to be outdoors and enjoy while also being mindful about the social distancing and wearing the face mask too. I arrived here on a Sunday afternoon after commuting from Waikiki around 3pm on a cloudless May 2020 day. The park itself was quite small with a sizable open space for a baseball field and a space to play any sports imaginable. There's also a basketball court that is sort of enclosed in a building type structure. There's also a building that may or may not be a multi-use building of some sort. Not sure if there are public restrooms available on property, since I tried to find one, but didn't seem to locate one during my experience here. I was the only person there during my stay here and spent about 1 hour here enjoying the area and seeing this side of residential Liliha through its community park. It's nice that there was no visible homeless issues here during my time here and the ambiance was quite nice and also quiet. The park itself was basically nice and maintained by the good folks at the City and County of Honolulu Parks department. The overall experience here at Pu'unui community park was nice, although somewhat inadequate. There was no place to sit down like a bench or anything I saw. Sitting on concrete steps or leaning against the wall was my only options during my stay here. Maybe they took the benches away because of COVID-19 pandemic, which could be the case. I spent my time h ere at this park by looking around, walking the perimeter a bunch of times to kill the time and to get in the usual exercise, and trying to find the restroom facility - but to no avail. I enjoyed the ambiance of this quiet park nestled in the quiet Liliha district of urban Honolulu. It's so quiet that hardly any traffic buzzed through the area while I was there. It is pretty cool that there is a basketball court for those who enjoy the game as well as the baseball diamond. For myself though, walking around the perimeter works best and had a nice time doing so. If you are in the area and want a place to relax on a weekend or after a day at the office, consider making a stop here at the Pu'unui community park before you head on home. As with many community parks around the island, it's the second best thing to the ocean to de-stress after a tough day at the office. Pu'unui community park is located at 2555 Puunui Avenue in the heart of Liliha. As all community and neighborhood parks go, there is no admission fee required to gain access to its grounds. During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, parks were previously closed to the public, but this order was lifted in late April 2020 to help support physical exercise and wellbeing for all citizens. So, you can come here (and any park) for your workouts - just no picnics or other non-physical exercise related activity. Many of y'all drive, so parking options are basically limited to any open residential parking spots you can find and park there. If you are like me, there's only 1 bus route that comes here and that's route 13. There's one other bus route that services the upper Liliha area, but it doesn't come close to this community park. That route is 10. There are routes 1L, 2, and 2L, but they only run on North School Street and Liliha. Best bet would be to bus it on the 13 really. For the most part though, finding solace can be found here at Pu'unui community park. Youth team games are played here as well as evening pick up basketball games with the locals. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Open spaces are your friends! And its free! Support local! A+

My sister used to play her soccer games there every weekend. But when I went there was no playground. It was just a big grassy area. Now they have a huge playground apparatus. I especially like this park because it's different. Most of the other parks are all cookie cutter kind of playground equipment. They all have pretty much the same design. But this one has more climbing thing. They have ropes to climb, a more challenging stairway to get up to the slide, hand bicycles, and balancing things. My daughter loves coming to this park. It always nice because we've been there a few times already and it's almost always empty. I gave only four stars because the flies there are awful. I don't even know where they are coming from since there wasn't a trash bin or anything nearby. But it was like you couldn't even stand in one spot for a minute. The flies just kept coming on you and it was getting annoying. Hopefully it was just that day. I'll test it out again.

My daughter loved them when she rode on them in California and I just couldn't find any of those swings in Hawaii until today. Today I just wanted to try something different and go to the Manoa Marketplace open market. But on the way there I quickly glanced at Kamanele Park and saw that there were swings. I've noticed that many parks are getting rid of their swings altogether and just putting in the climbing apparatus with slides. But this park had tons of swings when I looked. And then I had to do a double take because I saw the bucket swings. My husband and I decided to take her to the park in the afternoon after her nap. And she loved it. She's really small so these bucket swings were perfect for her. As soon as she got into the swing, she was laughing and having a grand ole time. She didn't want to get out! We kept asking her, do you want to come out and she kept motioning that she didn't and wanted us to push her some more. She ended up riding the swing for a good twenty minutes! I'm so glad that there is a park that we can go to where she can ride the swing. But as far as the park in general, there really isn't anything else to do there. There's two bucket swings and four regular swings. There's no equipment, just swings. I guess if you want to have a picnic there, it would be a good spot since they have tons of grass. Also if you're into bird watching, there these green parrots flying around in the trees above. Kind of unusual to see in a regular tree but worth searching for.

There was another woman there with her two year old and they were swinging and writing on the sidewalk with chalk. I'd totally come back again with my family to have a simple picnic.
