I've been coming to this park since I was a child. This park seems like it has been here forever, at least to me. I'm not sure if many people know this, but they used to have a library in one of the buildings. The main building is huge with a lot of empty space. I took karate here when I was a kid. Now, I vote in the same space when the polls are open. They have one huge parking lot and a smaller one on the other side of the park. It has basketball courts, tennis courts and a pool. The pool is only open at certain times. It also has a large field on the opposite side of the basketball courts. I've seen people play soccer on that field. People also have events on that field. Most recently, they had a kim chee day event. They have a small playground for kids and a community garden. It's one of the best parks if you ask me. read more

Makiki District Park - Parks Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Nice community park to bring our kids at. They hold the Makiki district i9 sports here. The was clean, grass was cut, and field was huge. We noticed that there's a community garden, a pool, and a somewhat clean playground also located at this park. The only junkie thing was there wasn't too many trees planted that could give off shade, so many families had their umbrellas out. read more

This isn't the nicest or best maintained park that I've been to, but it's in the middle of a metropolitan area and it's nice that there's a fair amount of green space. There are tennis courts and a small kids playground area along with a community garden. It could probably use more attention from the City or whoever is responsible for maintenance, lots of dead areas of vegetation. There are also several buildings that appear to be abandoned and dilapidated. read more

Excusing the unfortunate condition of the male urinal (apologies for the graphic photo) the park is quite large for the vicinity considering the very crowded neighborhood. I used to live nearby and I would come here to goof off or run the perimeter of the expanse for a little exercise. There's a library contained within the general area. Go explore the community garden! Cool place and very needed in the densely packed mix of high and low rise dwellings. read more

Makiki District Park - WTF!? - Parks Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Located in Makiki area where there are at least 2 parking lots. There address is Keeaumoku This city and county of Honolulu park is the best because there is library, recreation room by library, swimming pool, basketball court, grassy area for recreation, and community garden. One stop play and fun in sun for people living in this area. There are no playground equipments for children. Several blue benches to sit on but some are not under the trees. We went on Sunday afternoon around 3 pm and it was super sunny and somewhat hot. read more

This is an awesome park for people watching! Even though we live close to the park we rarely use it, but on a whim my hubby decided to move our family and friends tennis date here instead of Ala Moana Park. Since it was a Sunday the courts were full of people and we watched groups of seniors play tennis, kids playing basketball and my favorite, an entire unicycling troupe dancing their hearts away to music. I exclaimed: "Where's the popcorn... because this is just like the circus!" Other than the amazing people watching there's also a community pool, a community garden, the Makiki library, a playground and a huge open field which is used frequently for soccer games. After our tennis game we took our daughter to the field to teach her to ride her bike without training wheels. There are definitely an assortment of interesting characters at this park and a homeless encampment by the library, but for the most part I feel as though it's fairly safe in the daytime. Sadly, there is the random schizophrenic homeless man who talks to himself and walks in circles all day long but he didn't bother us. This is an awesome park to bring your dog to play catch and whenever I see people with their animals it seriously makes me super envious because the dogs are so happy! Hope you can visit this park with your family or pet and enjoy what it means to understand why we lucky we live Hawai'i! read more

This review is about the pool facilities. POOL HOURS (through August 1, 2014) Lap Swim * Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri 11:30AM-1 PM Half Open Pool, Half Lap Swim * Mon - Fri 3:30PM-5PM * Sat - Sun 1PM-4PM --Closed July 4th & 11th-- There's plenty of parking out front - with tons of trees. Yay shade! The facilities are not spa worthy "clean", but for a public pool - it's alright. There's plenty of toilets, showers (full and foot rinse). There's even cubbies to store your personal belongings. I usually attend the late afternoon 1/2 open, 1/2 lap sessions for lap swimming. The lap swim portion of the pool has about 5-6 lanes open. It's never too crowded and the pool has the perfect temperature. There's always at least 2 lifeguards present; 1 of them is always roaming around the pool perimeter. So no need to worry about drowning, plus the pool is only 3ft deep! (; Other amenities are the use of paddle boards and leg floats to focus on your arms and legs and a clock if you didn't bring your own. There's many pools in the Honolulu area, but this one is the one I go to the most! Happy swimming! (: read more

Not a very interesting place, homeless and flies bitting you on your legs! Not enough tables and benches to sit at.

There realy is something for everyone- There are swings- a little weathered and old but still works- just be careful not to get skin pinched by old chains. There is a kids park- There are meetings of moms that bring very young children that play with toys and get to know each other before being able to go to preschool- I think a Head Start or another kind of volunteer teacher runs that- I know it is at a certain time of the week in the mornings but only heard great things about the group. There is the park itself that has a jungle gym- I wish I had one as cool as it is when I was a little kid- I would love it. There are kids that say out til 10 pm at night playing- sometimes I wonder where their parents are but they seem to get home and back there again the next day safely so the parents must know they are gone. There is active tennis courts- I always see people having games. There is soccer fields- sometimes ayso and sometimes adults have games and meets and practice there. There is a pool- looks clean and well kept. There most oddly is a community garden- the garden has rules posted and there is info on the c+c website about how to get a plot but it sounds like an uber pain in the butt to make all those meetings just to get put on a wait-list for a plot of small land that you still have to pay for- still it is a great opportunity for a family in an apartment(like myself). There is a working volunteer library- again volunteers are great. There is voting when it is that time of year- in the community spaces There are places for skateboarders to have at it in a public good space- I think that is the most used and useful part of the park. You can see people walking dogs and families having picnics- it is a family place to be- few homeless compared to how close it is to downtown imo. All in all a great park to play, plan a day or hang out and meet neighbors with other small children. Great park!!!!!!!! why 3 stars? There is a small amount of parking compared to what is needed. They have talked about making a dog park out of some of the area my question would be what will be taken away? Police patrol very selectively the park- but I have heard people get ticketed more randomly for things like not being in their cars and leaving when the park closes. It is near a really busy street intersection of Wilder and Ka. read more

Although this park has everything that I would typically expect, sadly I just can't give it a very high rating. For starters, there is a swimming pool here with open swimming hours posted which is nice for those looking to get some recreational laps. They also have showers and facilities connected to the pool area which is also nice post-swim. Tennis courts are large and well lit at night, but they can get crowded at times. People also have neighborhood gardens here. I'm not sure what the process is of getting one of your own, but I assume the demand is pretty high considering they all looked taken. So let me just get into why I am not so fond of this park. Aside from the above mentioned facilities, every time I come here I just don't feel safe. The bathrooms are located nowhere near the tennis courts (what most people actually come here for) and they are also not very well lit and appear dirty. Now I don't consider myself a park connoisseur, but I do have some expectations on the rare occasions that I do go to a recreational park. I do expect that I can at least feel safe in my community and sadly that isn't a feeling that I get from this park. The street that is adjacent to the park restrooms is literally "shady." Which is nice in terms of your car not getting hot should you decide to park there, but is not nice if you value your car and don't want unwanted loiterers wandering around when you're trying to get in and out. Overall, I recommend this park to users who are looking for nice tennis courts or a swimming pool. But try to come during hours that the swimming pools are open so you can use those bathrooms instead. Use your best judgment near people who look like they're up to no good. read more

This park is great for walking your dogs after spending the afternoon relaxing here it seems this is the main purpose of the park! Not a great place for a get together, there isn't necessarily anywhere to sit on. There was a lot of flies and bugs so probably don't be back here anytime soon ! read more

Went to an open house in the area and wanted to check out the nearest park. They have basketball courts, tennis courts, skateboard park, playground, big field, swimming pool and Makiki Community Library which is not part of the Hawaii State Library system. The pool looked very big and was very busy on Sunday. The playground had a new play set and the cushion below it was in great condition. read more

Nice little park in the Makiki area. This is great for kids and seniors. There is a swimming pool, basketball court, tennis court, volleyball court, and a library. The other parts of the park includes a garden and big grass area where sometimes you see soccer practices. read more

Oh man, I suck. I've been part of this community for 8 years and just now writing this! Great for kicking around or batting balls, letting your kids just run wild and the sort. I do loves me this park. It's clean, the people who come here are colorful, friendly and respectful. The best kept secret is the pool....I shouldn't have said that. I really like the garden area, too. That's neat. The only thing junk is that the swings keep getting messed up or not fixed everytime I come here. What's up with that? read more

Lary and I live right across from this park so this is where we take Keebies on all his walks. He loves it here... if he doesn't poop it out on the way to the park, we usually try to sprint across the street to the park so he doesn't poop on the crosswalk or while we wait for the light somewhere... it's been known to happen. He loves the first couple of trees when we get there... they seem to have the most attractive pee attached to them... we spend a good ten minutes between those few trees. His whole face goes into the grass... he's a minpin so you can only see his black and rust colored body. Anyway, Lary and I love taking walks here as well... yeah it gets a bit hectic during soccer season and it seems everyone and their mom is occupying every inch of the field but wait an hour or so and it eventually clears up. Since we walk here, I never have to find parking but I'm sure it's not the easiest during towing/rush hours. There's lots of trees for Keebies to mark and every time we get near that garden, I wonder how to get a parcel there... although I'd probably be like half of those people and neglect my little plot after about a year... so maybe it's not for the best but it deosn't make me not want one. We roamed to the tennis and basketball courts and it seems like there's always someone playing. There's the library, where both Keebies and Lary voted this past election. Seems like there's always something happening at the park. The only problem? Sometimes there's a lot of homeless people sleeping by Keebies's trees so that he can't always pee where he wants... read more

Makiki District Park - Parks Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Started taking beginners Hula classes with the Honolulu Parks and Recreation classes! Great open space for our hula class. I have always seen kids playing the adjacent basketball courts. Great facilities! read more

This park has quite a bit to offer considering it's so close to downtown with all of the various recreational areas and a field big enough to host soccer and ultimate frisbee games. The bathrooms could use some work, and there is definitely a need for a dog area as people are letting their dogs defecate all over the place more and more lately...leading to lots of flies. The swings did get stolen so they're doing something new with that area, fingers crossed that can't be stolen. read more

What happened to the swings? Both are totally gone...no chains even? Vandals? Not happy :(

Pool Playground for kids Tennis courts Basketball courts Community library Grassy area Community garden Skateboard ramp Building where classes take place 2 parking lots This park has so much to offer. Walk the dog, walk yourself, play something, read something, grow something, learn something or relax here. Awesomeness because it is maintained well, not too rainy like Manoa and has ample parking. read more

Swings are gone and bathrooms are horrrrrible. Graffiti and toilet paper vandalism. Community garden is nice.

I love this park. We spend a lot of time here swimming, doing zumba and yoga, going to summer fun, playing on the playground, having gatherings with friends. It's nice and shady in a good number of places, has tennis courts, swimming pool, volleyball courts, basketball courts, a big field, an auditorium, community gardens, and a kiln. The staff are like family. There is a fair amount of parking - it is, after all, a community park to which you should be able to walk. The park is nice and clean for the most part, but the bathrooms could use a little love, and this summer the AC units definitely need some help. We are sad that the swings got taken down - no one knows why - perhaps they'll be back? We certainly will be! read more

I live nearby so I Usually come in the morning around 8-10, find myself out in the sun solo on the bball court or perhaps a few players out there shooting baskets. The tennis courts always seem full no matter what time of the day it is. Good thing I don't play tennis. But the pool always seem empty though I don't use it. There's a small playground for kids with a slide, and a open field grass area for the soccer players or flag football guys. There's also a skate park area near the basketball courts. And The bathroom is near the grass field area. Parking is on keaumoku or on wilder street or in the parking lot. You can hear the freeway and the sound of many ambulances passing by. But all in all, a clean overall playground for kids and all ages who look to be active in town. 5* for its location to me :) read more

We love this Park! When is the city County of Honolulu going to re open the library? There are thousands of residents in this neighborhood and half of them are students. we need a place where a child can go to read a book, study homework, to research for a paper and to do it in a safe environment. read more

Great park w parking lot, bathroom, community gardens, playground, tennis courts, pool, and open pavilion w benches. Decent amount of shade and keikis can play mostly away from the road and parking lot. The pool is open somewhat odd hours. This park has community events and city park classes held on certain days of the week (check their websites). Nice family community park in Makiki. read more

I enjoy taking the family and playing basketball at this park. Every Saturday at 2PM there is a group of bball players that come out and play. Very friendly people come out to this park. Also they have a public pool for adults and keiki. While on the court you can overlook the freeway, pretty cool. Plenty parking read more

This place is a good place to hang around during the daytime. I used to come here every day, to swim, and play basketball. I also used to play at the playground sometimes. But the bad part about this park is when it turns night time. All the bad people out and mess around with most of the things in the park. Like steal tennis balls from people who play tennis. Graffiti the playgrounds and bathrooms. Smoke weed near the library and other horrible things. It's OK to go during daytime but not at nighttime. I'm warning y'all. read more

Lovely place to take a walk in the morning or evening. My dog Cocoa loves to come here and sprint his heart out back and forth across the big field. I miss the old play ground though. I used to come when I was younger and play on the equipment and swing sets, but now it's been removed. read more

Really a very lovely family oriented park. Lots and lots of activities, children's organized games, families enjoying jogging and other sports. There's a nice little rubberized playground for younger children to play in and a wonderful swimming pool that my family members go to even though we have a family sized pool. Their's is a lap pool and any swimmer would know the difference. The only thing I would add if I could are more benches in the park. True, it has an open field atmosphere with lots of lovely green grass and trees to sit under. However I think it could use more benches on the perimeter for parents to sit along Wilder and Keeaumoku Streets. Go and enjoy. It's a very soothing and relaxing place and after visit you feel very refreshed! read more

Great park with lots of great stuff. There are tennis courts, a swimming pool, playground, community garden, and a big field. Families can often be found playing sports or jogging. The park is pretty safe. Never had any issues. read more

This park is convenient for people living in Makiki. My only gripe is with the swings. For such a large park why is there only two swings? And on top of that they are usually broken or just one being operational resulting with kids waiting for a chance to use one. read more

I used to go to this park all the time for years. From. My keiki days. It is a awesome park there is just a problem with the punks there. I almost got stabbed once. Got mobbed a couple times at night walking through to go home. But other than that it is a good park. read more

This is a really nice community park especially for the residents of Makiki. Everytime I come here (which is usually in the late afternoon/early evening time) it is pretty busy. The basketball courts get filled, the tennis courts get occupied, and you have some people here and there use the volleyball open area. There is also a nice big open grassy area which I think some people use for pop warner football, soccer, and other youth oriented land sports which is cool to see. They also have a swimming pool but I haven't used it yet. The park also has a garden and stuff which is pretty cool to see. There are two areas to this park. There is the front area on keeaumoku st. and there is the Makiki street area. Both areas have parking lots. There is more on the keeaumoku side. There are also street parking areas that are surrounding the park. Sometime the ice cream man truck comes around the block and it is super cool to see. It is also just a really nice area to chill and relax and spend family time. You can also see the kupuna elderly and what not walking around the park. Overall, really nice and great park for just about any recreational and leisurley purpose. read more
