Had it not been for the efforts of my real estate agent, the delay could have jeopardized the entire deal. Their paralegal, Kiddie, clearly had no idea what she was doing. Throughout the process, I was never provided with a closing checklist or proper guidance regarding required items such as fire inspections, water meter readings, and other critical closing obligations. I ultimately had to handle nearly all of the legwork myself that I could know attain a real estate law degree. At one point, I was even sent contracts related to an account that was not mine. I requested a single phone call on multiple occasions and never received any direct communication from anyone other than the paralegal. Additionally, the closing documents I received just one day before closing contained numerous errors, including incorrect information regarding both the property's municipality and my current residence. Because I was never informed about the water meter reading requirement, I was forced to scramble less than two hours before closing to obtain the necessary documentation. To make matters worse, the mortgage payoff request number presented at closing did not match the payoff information provided directly to me by the mortgage company the previous day. One disaster after another. Do yourself a favor, pay an extra $400 and get a law firm that are present and competent.

As my beloved attorney, Joanne Seminara of Grimaldi & Yeung, passed away not too long ago, I have been considering other attorney services, so this seemed like a great opportunity to explore a legal practice dedicated to estate planning. The presentation was organized, digestible, and informative. The venue, Chadwick's, provided excellent food and service. So only 1 star? ? ABSOLUTELY. ... Soon after the presentation started i realized that I was never provided a packet, so at the end of the evening I went to request it. There were people jostling around, vying for the attention of the presenter and staff. I patiently waited my turn, even though all I wanted was the materials. When my turn came I was pointedly snubbed. Regardless, I made my request and the attempt was to ignore it. It took me a few seconds to realize what was going on: The impression was that I was not "worthy," perhaps only attending for a delicious free meal without any intent to utilize the service, a parasite of sorts. Actually that is far from the case; for one I already have an estate plan in place, but would have utilized their services. And so I grappled with how to grade this- 5 stars for the presentation, or 1 star for the treatment? I chose the latter. Ultimately I feel being of good character outweighs the content. I have been a physician in Brooklyn for decades and an upstanding resident for longer than that. And this is New York: There ARE (hopefully) decent, unbigoted, non-judgmental, and talented attorneys here. Joanna Seminara was one of them. One may choose to tolerate disrespect as a means to an end, but I chose not to, certainly not at this stage of my life. Therefore I decided on 1 star instead of 5.
