The store may not be as modern as some of the newer John Lewis stores, but it makes up for it by having a nice selection of items you'd expect to find in a John Lewis from clothing to fragrances and technology. There is also an Optician and a Cafe inside. The store was still tidy and presented well. The store stretches over five floors, including a basement. There are toilets on two floors which is handy and I often find these both quieter and cleaner than the ones actually inside the shopping centre. There weren't too many staff members around the floor, although due to the size, it would be difficult to have someone everywhere. The staff seemed friendly when I did find someone. I do think it's a waste for such a big department store in a big city to be closing at 6 pm, other than on Thursdays, when they close at 7 pm. It just seems way too early, although it is in line with some smaller stores nearby, there are shops open later so I can't see why John Lewis can't either. One of my favourite stores in the city, I do prefer this to other department stores nearby. I do prefer the John Lewis in Edinburgh though, which after John Lewis in Aberdeen closed is their only other branch in Scotland. 4*

John Lewis Customer telephone complaints gave the now typical runaround - long wait time etc - before trying to claim it had been delivered to a neighbour. No. Different package. Then washed hands of it and told me complain to my credit card company. I buy everything on Amex for this eventuality, so I have indeed complained. Used to be a great store. Sad to see it fall into disgraceful decline.

The shop specialises in bedroom furniture, with a large range of beds, mattresses (including the Tempur range), pillows and bedding in store. With bedside tables, wardrobes etc. also on display. The store also has a kids section, with different beds and a great range of bedding that not just pink or blue. I've browsed the store a number of times but at the weekend I made my first purchase, a new giant bed :) Customer service was pretty good, with helpful and friendly staff. We tried out a number of beds and mattresses and were happy with the advice and answers to the questions we had. We ended up going for a bespoke upholstered bed, which I was slightly disappointed to learn came with a 8-10 week wait versus the 6 weeks stated on the website. I appreciate that we requested some changes but it feels like a long time to wait for my new bed, hence the one star downgrade. They had a great sale on in January too, so look out for future offers!

Getting the bed delivered was a performance, and they charge a pretty penny for delivery and putting the bed together. I bought two beds and two mattresses - the cheaper of the two has caused no problems. The base for the master bedroom was the wrong size, and colour, and I had to pay for removal. But returning the mattress has been a nightmare! The salesgirl in the shop was very quick to recommend a very expensive mattress... but doesn't seem to have given any thought to my size or weight. The mattress is totally unsuitable for my size and weight.... and now they don't want to return it, despite the fact that this is causing me back pain. Their attitude seems to be, its not faulty, you just don't like it. Terrible misselling. The cheap and old IKEA mattress I had in my rental house before, caused me fewer problems. Avoid.

An unfurnished semi-detached house, 20 minutes from Glasgow and 30 minutes from Edinburgh (not relevant information but we're pretty excited about the location). We moved in on the 1st February, but we are the organised type and expecting a 6 week delay on delivery ordered our furniture from Oak Furniture Land in the first week of January. We called 2 weeks prior to our expected delivery date of 15th February and every week following to get updates on our order. We were told, that our mattress hadn't arrived at the warehouse, so delivery was out of the option. Every week for 5 weeks we were told "The mattresses should arrive on Friday, so your delivery will be next week", and every week we had to ask family if we could stay with them an extra week. On the 22nd February, our delivery van pulled up, but not with our mattress. It had arrived the week before (according to Clare in customer services) however they lost it, and it would be another 6 weeks as they would have to order another one. At this point you think you're being Punked and I am calling Ashton Kutcher's name down the phone. Today is the 10th March, our new mattress has been sourced, it is at the warehouse.. Huzzah! But wait! According to Ian in customer services, it cannot be delivered, as there is an IT fault that will not allow it to be delivered, so we must wait while there only Swindon based IT man flies to China to get the problem fixed... There's no camera's? No Ashton Kutcher? I'm also sure there are at least a few million people who work in IT in the UK that wouldn't need to fly to China to fix the problem. In fact, why not save the money spent on the flight to China and i'll take a £1000 discount and come and pick the rest of the furniture up? Oak Furniture Land - Enter at your own risk..

When we called up the advisor told us that it was unreasonable for us to be unhappy because having broken furniture delivered was "like snow falling from the sky" and they couldn't do anything about it. I'm a solicitor, so I asked for the address for their legal department, to which I was told no, and that there was "no legal precedent" for me to be writing to them. I have to say this is the first time I've been lectured in the law of Scotland by a man who answers telephones for a furniture company. We then emailed, and a very nice woman rang us back and told us she would have the refund department contact us to refund the delivery (£30) and arrange to have a new table, mirror and door for the wardrobe delivered. The wardrobe door would then be fitted by a company that they contracted the work out to. The new items were delivered, and one of the three arrived broken. Cue another email to oak furniture land. The wardrobe door was to be fitted the following day, except the company contracted to do it didn't show up. We then had to phone OFL again (on their premium rate number). Phone call one: I was put through to sales by mistake then cut off. Phone call two: I was put through to customer services, then cut off after 3 minutes. Phone call three: they contacted the company who were to fit the door - they told OFL that they had turned up at the time specified (of course they did - I've never heard of a company admit to not turning up). They eventually offered us £35 to get the mirror reframed and £40 to fix the wardrobe door ourselves, which I immediately accepted just to never have to deal with OFL ever again. Except we're still waiting for the refund department to contact us. My partner rang this afternoon and was told there was no one in the entire refund department. Not a single person. We also heard nothing back about the "snow falling from the sky" man, despite asking them to look into the complaint. The moral here is: just shop elsewhere. OFL furniture is nice, but if you have a job and a life and don't want to wait in endlessly for the delivery of broken goods and for people who don't show up it's much easier just shopping somewhere else. It's just not worth it, trust me
