This company craned a jacuzzi into our back yard 2 years ago. The spa place hired them. I just called them to hire them to move the jacuzzi to our new house. Yvonne answered my call and told me I need to call the jacuzzi place to find out what crane they used. The jacuzzi place said they don't have that info. So I called Yvonne back and let her know. She then tells me I need to call some other person to Google earth my house so they can see what kind of crane they need. I let her know I have videos and photos of the crane and she said that won't help. I asked her why she's having me call around to get her this info when I'm the customer.... First time using this Crane Company have used several others it started out pretty well although we had a few hiccups nobody's fault but just the situation but then it turned really bad and at the end the crane operator said it is c o d you need to give me a check or card right now. If you don't pay right now I won't let anybody out of the driveway and he held back over 25 people and would not let them leave the alley until he was paid in full. This included several other companies the roofers several tenants from different buildings all kinds of people luckily there was no emergencies I've never seen such a tactic in my life and to boot they charge us an extra surcharge for a credit card but didn't make it apparent. When I ordered the crane they never told us the terms and I assumed we would get it on credit like many others. I just find it really distasteful as well as unprofessional and unfortunately we will never use the company again I will be posting a review for a crane company that I would recommend I had such high hopes. I am very disappointed at my end service due to being overcharged when not previously disclosed or improperly informed when making the original appointment. When the crane operator was here I was juggling my two children and another company that was assisting in moving my spa. The crane operator did not go over my receipt with me just asked me to sign. I was under the impression that it was the same amount as quoted over the phone prior. I was informed that overcharge of $30 an hour was only on Sundays. However, I had a overcharge on my receipt. I called and asked for clarification. When I did Evon was quite short with me and not understanding whatsoever. She stated that she has worked for the company for 15 years and has always stated that weekends are overcharged. She most certainly told me that it was on Sundays only because that was the original day that I was trying to have the crane come which is why we agreed on Saturday. When I brought it to her knowledge she quickly turned it on me asked me if I reviewed the receipt prior to signing it and I told her that I trusted the information that was provided to me due to being preoccupied with my children and signed it even though I realize it was a little bit more than what I was expecting. I also paid in cash. She did not have any remorse whatsoever. I would've expected that at least they would've credited me back $30 for the misunderstanding. I needed a crane to place a spa in my backyard, to move it 125 feet from a narrow street and over a two story house. I called 9 different spa companies until I found Benson -- the only one with the equipment that could do it. He has a large crane but with a base small enough to fit on my street. His price also was reasonable - which I really appreciated as I am sure he could tell how desperate I was as I had already paid for the spa and so he could have asked for more. He was very professional throughout the whole process. In fact, during the installation there was a complication that was not his fault but, still, he stepped up to be sure I was happy. I was looking for a crane company to move an old spa out and a new spa in to a difficult location in Laguna Beach. I read the mixed reviews for Benson Crane but the positive ones and the pictures of the spa jobs made me give them a call. Dave answered my first call and I told him that I was managing the property (not the owner) and was concerned about the amount of tree canopy at the site. I let him know that I was seeking information because the fence, gate and walkway didn't allow for the spa to be moved on the ground and I had no idea how much a crane service cost. He said he needed some information like the spa weight and the distance to the street, which I didn't have but eventually got for him. I asked him if he could stop by and look at the site first before I committed to the schedule. He said he would try to come by on the weekend but stuff happens and he wasn't able to make it (understandable). We did this repeatedly for a few weeks. I called him on his cell, sent him text messages and called the office and left messages with Yvonne. I also sent him multiple emails with a Google Map pic of the site and the weight and size of the spa. When I spoke with both Dave and Yvonne, it was obvious that I needed their guidance as I wasn't even sure if the thing would fit, but I had a deadline that I was trying to make. Finally I took a saw and cut a bigger hole in the canopy as my time was running out and I needed to get this done. I emailed Dave and let him know that I thought it would fit and scheduled them to come 12/20/17. I did everything I thought I could do to prepare for this. I disconnected the old spa and drained every last drop of water. I even got the thing up on blocks thinking it would be easier and faster for them to get their straps under it (like I saw in the pictures on Yelp). The new spa was in the garage on dollies waiting to be wheeled out. I saved all the parking spaces in front of the property for the crane. I was ready, or so I thought. The crane showed up on time with one person, the driver. Did you know that if you hire a crane service that you need to have your own crew that includes a "rigger"? Neither did I. Did you know that the crane needs to be completely level and in order to do that the outriggers will take up 2 lanes of traffic and you'll need to shut down the street? And in order to do that you'll need a permit from the city and two more people for your crew to flag traffic? Neither did I. Did you know that part of your crew needs to know how to communicate with the crane operator via radios to position the spa? No? Did you know that if you call Benson Crane trying to get information about moving a spa that they will NEVER ONCE MENTION ANY OF THIS STUFF? Imagine my surprise and disappointment at this. And to add insult to injury they insisted on charging me for an hour of crane time. Now, had this been my fault by not attempting to get information and have them come to the job site to confirm it was doable, then I would accept my mistake, pay their fee and not leave a bad review here. But that was NOT the case. So be warned, if you've never used a crane service before you better do a lot of research and get a lot of information. Unfortunately I was never able to get any of that information from Benson Crane. And when I told them this, they still insisted on charging me. Shame on you Dave. read more

Dave is the owner and a very cool guy who's extremely easy to set the appointment almost too easy but sure enough the crane arrived right on time as scheduled and had a fantastic experience. Had never used this company prior but have been building homes in Orange County for over 30 years and have used many crane companies. As all potential subs, we price and confirm prior to work beginning. I was quoted by Dave at Benson Crane that it would be $175 per hour with a 4 hour min. I confirmed the total would be $700 if the crane did not go beyond the 4 hour time frame. The crane only spent 3.5 hours at that jobsite and they charged a total of $962.50. Dave from Benson stated that the driver starts his time from when he leaves the yard and up until he returns. In all of our 30 years of building, we have never been charged this ridiculous travel time. These guys are dishonest and we'll never use them again and we encourage others to look elsewhere as well. read more
