The bath houses are beautiful with showers with glass doors (not they typical sticky shower curtain!). Everything smells brand new. Maintenance crew are always out trimming edges, etc. and very helpful if you have any problems (I couldn't get my cable hooked up properly - user error). Camping World is right next door which is convenient if you forgot or need anything while you're staying there. It is a bit pricey for "camping" but it is very nice and was a great experience with my camping group.

They have a lot of permanent campers, they are nice campers. The managers keep a good handle on things and are on top of any issues. I would stay here again.

It is dated…read morein terms of infrastructure but the facilities (restrooms, laundry room) are clean and well maintained. The property is also well maintained. The camp host - Ken - was fantastic and friendly. We had plans to attend a football game in Gainesville and he offered to drive us back and forth which was wonderful. He delivered a fire ring and wood to us as well. We had a great time. The bird watching is wonderful (we were in Site 407 right on the water. ) For those bird watchers, we saw and/or heard Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, Hawks, Barred Owls, Swamp Sparrows, Yellow-Rumped Warblers, Blackbirds, Crows, Cardinals, Catbirds, White Ibis, Wrens, Kingfishers, Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers, etc....all in just 2 days! We could have stayed longer. We were told the owner intends to upgrade the facility. We very much enjoyed this campground.

When I think of camping, I think of being deep in the woods, far from civilization. Ross Prairie was not what I was expecting. First off, it's right next to a busy highway, so don't expect to hear nature in all of its glory. The camp sites themselves reminded me of a RV park, not an actual camp site. I think we were the only group there solely with tents. The sites themselves are in a wide open field...Lots of room and separation from the other camp sites which was nice, but you're definitely not in the woods. The maximum tents per site was 2, but it seemed pretty easy to get away with more. On the plus side, the shower/ bathroom facilities were clean...Huge for anyone who isn't quite ready to getting the real " Camping Experience.". If I were to camp again, however, I would definitely look for a site with a more stereotypical camping feeling to it.

They resemble the Tiny House trend you read so much about in Miami; they are tiny and they are houses, and they are super-cute. I really enjoyed staying in mine. If you are thinking about RV parks as disorganized, dirty and depressing places, Lake in the Forest will surprise you. It is immaculate, everything is well maintained and it feels consistently like a good part of town. There are a lot of nice places around the park where you can contemplate and enjoy nature. The place was almost empty when I visited so there was unlimited peace and quiet to enjoy. I would actually say it was a bit too peaceful and quiet. I didn't realize until almost time to leave that there was an active social center in the middle of the place that might have been interesting. Perhaps it was having just come from Disney, where it is impossible to get lost for more than five minutes without being legally blind, but it would have been nice to see a few signs pointing me towards favorite places within the property. There was a notebook in the house with lists of addresses of things to do, but it would have been nice overall to have more detailed descriptions of possible activities. As it turns out, the right thing to do is to ask the staff, who had an encyclopediac store of information when asked and could not have been more cordial. Some of the RVs are decorated with lights and effects in ways reminding me of Burning Man or Love Burn if it had been done on a really strict budget. The clientele are entirely pickup and RV folks. Hardly anyone had cars. I had my new-to-me pre-owned Mercedes and felt a touch out of place, the city slicker in the country, almost like I was invading a world I didn't quite understand. That was silly of me and amused me more than anything, but this is definitely not Miami. The few people I met were very nice, and the owner was exceptionally helpful, pointing out sights I would enjoy and showing me her own personal 80 acres of nature. I knock off a star for two things :The gate procedure and the checkout procedure. The office shuts down at 4:00pm and they close the gate allowing entry into the park. After that to enter or exit you need to get out of your car, release it, return to your car, drive through it and then close it again. So it feels like you are trapped in or shut out. The owner tells me that the gate serves its purpose of preventing pesky neighborhood kids and the like from coming in and annoying everyone, but there's no question it made me feel a bit alienated from the place. They intend to replace it with an electric gate eventually and that should solve the problem. Checkout requires that customers clean out the room, bring the sheets to the main cabin, take out the trash, wash dishes, empty and wipe out refrigerator, sweep the place clean and so on. This is a lot of physical labor for someone for whom that is, well, not his strong suit. They charge you a $60 fee if you don't comply. With my complete lack of domestic engineering talent this is not very hospitable. I wouldn't mind paying $30 but $60 just seems excessive. WiFi, while available, did not work well during my visit. I have Verizon's Unlimited cellphone plan and that worked fine for my stay. I simply tethered my computer and iPad with the phone and had fine functional access, despite the remote location. If you want to use the WiFi, they have several different networks with different passwords for each one. So you might want to program each one individually into your devices. A pain, but having all of them accessible would probably make it easier to find a functioning network. At $350 per week, I felt the value for money was outstanding. The place is pleasant, relaxing and very well kept up.

My family plans a vacation around the springs in Florida every year. So I have been to many of…read morethem. There are good and bad things about this spring, but I really would give it a 3.5 if I was able. Good: --- The staff is friendly and attentive. --- Picnic tables are plentiful, clean, and tucked under shade trees. --- Charcoal grills available --- Walkways are cement or wooden, making it easy on people with mobility issues. --- Restrooms on site (I thought they only had port-o-potties!) --- Trashcans are plentiful & not overflowing. --- Love being able to swim to the cave and crevices to see the spring boils --- Great for snorkeling, so many fish (not kinds of fish, but number of fish) Not so good: --- Price. $14.50 per person is absolutely ridiculous. --- Needs changing rooms. It's gross to change in a tiny bathroom stall. --- The water got pretty cloudy, and lots of debris near the walls. --- When I got out of the water I felt like the water had a smell and it was on me. Other springs I feel refreshed and clean. --- The steps are super slippery --- They make a big deal on signage not to bring oversized floats, yet said nothing the SUP that came in like the Titanic among fishing boats. Plenty of staff walking around to catch that. --- Lots of limestone rocks, but they are covered with mossy growth. In many places it is too shallow to swim over, but too slippery to walk to the deeper part. (I know it is a natural feature that can't be changed, but for the price...you need to know) All in all, we did have a fun day. This was our first day of vacation, so if all of the springs are cloudy for some natural reason, I'll come back and edit.

Disrespectful to Disabled Veterans - Very Disappointing…read more As a disabled veteran, I was appalled to find out that Salt Spring Recreation Area does not honor the America the Beautiful Disabled Veterans Pass. This pass is a nationally recognized symbol of appreciation for those who served and sacrificed, and the fact that it's not accepted here is both disappointing and disrespectful. Public lands across the country--national parks, forests, and recreation areas--accept this pass without issue. It's a small but meaningful gesture of gratitude. Instead of being free for me and 3 guest I was forces to pay $50. Salt Spring's refusal to do the same sends a clear message that veterans and their service aren't valued here. It's shameful. To make matters worse, the staff offered no explanation or empathy. Just a cold "we don't accept that here" with no alternative options or respect shown. It was disheartening, to say the least. You should be ashamed of yourself. If you're a veteran expecting the same treatment and respect you'd receive at any other federal recreation site, don't come here. I won't be back--and I'll be telling others to avoid it as well until they choose to do the right thing.

We went through this trailhead while walking the Yearling Trail. The trail is a nice walk through…read morethe Ocala Forest and takes you along some points of interest such as a very large sinkhole and an old family cemetery. There are also supposedly some homesteads, but we didn't come across them during our time there. The website is a little off when it comes to showing which numbers on their map match the numbers on the posts for points of interest. Part of the trail is pretty sunny so make sure you have your sunscreen and other sun protection if you need it. Once you get into the main part of the trail, you'll find more shade and it's a nice, peaceful walk in the woods.

If you head south on the Florida Trail and head left at the fork you will find a nice giant dry…read moresinkhole. Makes for a great camp spot. Camping is permitted anywhere in the forest once the general gun season (hunting) closes...in 2014 that was January 4th. If you head North instead there is a nice campsite by hidden pond. These are remote areas with no facilities of any kind. Just the way I like it!

This is a nice and fairly quiet campground right off of lake Ocklawaha. It has great fishing boat…read moreaccess and is known for bass fishing. The prices are true to Florida State Campgrounds and so is the setup. It is nice and clean with accessible spaces for camping, bathroom, and dayside usage. The campsites themselves have electric, water, a fire pit with a metal grate, and a picnic table. Most are flat and some even have gravel. The bathrooms are well maintained too. There is a place called Hog Willer or something right next door that has occasional overnight atv noise on the weekend that is fairly loud at night, but if you have a fan or ac you don't notice it too much. Also, there is no store or quarter machine for supplies but they do have a washer and dryer. Overall, a nice and relaxing campground with trails, water, and nature. Just bring mosquito spray and all needed supplies.
