We came to this location for lunch. It's got a lot of parking being located in a shopping plaza…read more The location however, was not the best maintained. The only trash bin was overflowing and the bathroom lacked toilet paper. It's better to do takeout but we decided to eat there. We went for the family combo with the $6 drink upgrade. We were too hungry so I didn't get to snap picks before everyone already started eating . We were 4 people and there was enough left over for another person. We took the really creamy mac'n cheese and the rice and beans as sides. The mac was a bit runny but very satisfying and the rice was added on top of the cooked beans. The biscuits were soft on the inside with a golden baked exterior. Since we had our chicken right away, they were immensely crispy.

The chicken sandwiches and biscuits were hot and fresh. It's a very thick piece of yummy white breast, with a clean crunchy breading. Not overly spicy and thankfully less sauce than other places. Compared to Mary Brown's there is less seasoning but it is thicker and crunchier. $5.99 is a good deal these days. The biscuits were excellent and made a nice side for only 99 cents each. I would avoid the Mac and Cheese - it was very soupy, little noodles or cheese. Ripoff for $2.29 even if they would have filled the pathetically small container.

African BBQ House has recently opened up a few new locations and this location in the Bayshore area…read moreis one of them. I had been to the one in Orleans on Tompkins before but it was my first time at this Bayshore location. This Bayshore restaurant is bigger and brighter than the Orleans restaurant and looks much newer/more recently renovated. I got a quarter chicken meal here with jollof rice, fries and salad. I got a leg (drumstick and thigh). The chicken was very flavourful and although cooked on charcoal didn't have that unpleasant burnt smell/taste that charcoal cooked chicken sometimes has. So I was pleased with that. The jollof rice was spicy but a bit clumpy. The fries were wedges and were crispy. I liked that the salad was a mesclun mix with some grated carrots and wasn't iceberg lettuce. I just felt there was way too much creamy dressing. I would have preferred maybe a fifth of the amount of salad dressing, lol. Takeout comes in a plastic box. Yay it's not styrofoam! Cardboard would be better though. Staff were friendly. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with a pawn shop and other restaurants. Free parking available at the strip mall shared parking lot. (21)

Can eat in or order out (pickup or internet) On first visit my wife had the $9.99 Lunch Special - 1/4 BBQ's chicken leg + ample fries, and a bottle of water. Remarked on chicken being tender and tasty as were the fries. I had the Lamb Skewers Plate $25.28 - 2 good sized skewers of lamb, served with jollof rice, chef salad and a choice of fries or plantains-I had the fried plantains along with a bottle of water ($2.38 each) The lamb was very tender and flavourful. The salad was a blend of various greens with sliced tomatoes and a good dressing. The jollof rice had a nice zesty flavouring, and the fried plantains complemented everything else very well. All portions were ample, and I took what we didn't eat took home for supper. Next time I'll try the Goat Platter. Went back for a second lunch accompanied by my son. I had the Goat Skewers Plate ($25.78). Like before with the lamb, received 2 good sized skewers of goat, served with jollof rice, same chef salad and a choice of fries or plantains-ample portions-I again had the fried plantains. Ate half my meal and took the remainder home. My son had the Shrimp Skewers Plate with fried plantains, mixed greens salad, and Jollof rice. Remarked on how pleasantly surprized he was at the quality and quantity. Overall believe the good quality, ample portions, and price Make it a place to return to.

When I returned his call he was extremely rude, when I went downstairs to get my order I had to wait 10 minutes which is fine, because I did miss his initial call, but what was not fine was when the delivery driver eventually got there he would not give me my food until he had received a tip. I am generally someone who tips, but with rude behaviour like I had received I do not. This is highly highly unprofessional behaviour and I will not be ordering from this location again.

Pelicana Chicken is a chain from South Korea that's been around since 1982, but they only recently opened up a location in Ottawa. In Canada, they currently only have locations in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. This location is located inside the OK Mart and is just takeout. There are no seats to dine-in. Their specialty is Korean fried chicken, but I just wanted a small snack, so I got an order of Takoyaki ($7.99 for 6). They were delicious! Slightly crispy on the outside and very soft and creamy on the inside with a good amount of octopus pieces inside. They were generous with the bonito flakes and the amount of sauce was not excessive. I forgot to say no sesame seeds, so I was thrilled that none were sprinkled on top. If you like Takoyaki, I would definitely recommend the ones there! You need to order at the self-service kiosk. I didn't know, so I stood at the counter for a while and when no one came, I waved at one of the staff who was back in the kitchen. He came out and I said I'd like to place an order. He came around the counter and showed me how to place my order at the self-service kiosk, lol. He was very nice about it too. I thought I could order at the counter, had I known I had to use the self-service kiosk I could have easily done that on my own, haha. Maybe they should put up a sign to that effect. I got my receipt with my order number and it said on the screen my order would be ready in 20-30 minutes, so I just shopped around OK Mart. After maybe 10-15 mins, the man who helped me at the kiosk found me in the store (it's not a large store) and brought me my order. I saw him bringing other people their orders as well. I know he recognized me because he helped me at the kiosk, but I'm not sure how he recognized the other people who just ordered from the kiosk without his help. I guess there's a security camera or he pokes his head out of the kitchen when he sees that an order is being placed. I have no idea, but I received the correct order ;) They also have dumplings and fries, and of course fried chicken. Their menu said Tteokbokki coming soon. Looking forward to trying their Tteokbokki and fried chicken! Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. (59)

YMMV though because some students are more skilled than others, lol. Savoir Fare is a little takeout shop that sells prepared foods made by the students in the Hospitality and Tourism program at Algonquin College. The bakery section is called The Honour Roll. I love the play on words with the names, lol. Selection varies from week to week and their menu is listed on their website. Some weeks they are closed for exams, so make sure you check their website before going. They sell items like lasagna, Shepherd's pie, chicken vindaloo, bean chili, teriyaki chicken and meatloaf. The bakery has items like meringues, biscotti, pantone, croissants, lemon meringue pie and marshmallows. I have pretty much tried their entire menu, except their Florentine cookies, those are always sold out, lol. My favourite items are their choux pastries, Nanaimo bars, and danishes. I do prefer their baked goods over their savoury dishes. It's always a bit of a gamble because sometimes the items are delicious, but sometimes they are not so great. It's made by students after all and they are still learning. I love that the money from the sales go back into the program to help students. Prices are cheap compared to at the grocery store or restaurants. I love this store. However, their hours are very limited. When I used to work in the area, I'd pop by at lunch all the time, but now that I work far away, I can only manage to get out there either on a day off work or if I happen to be working offsite nearby. I miss being a regular. The store is on campus, so it's paid on-campus parking only. Or you can park on the streets and walk over. So for the record, I created a listing for Savoir Fare in Feb 2020 and wrote a review and uploaded a bunch of photos. Sometime in 2022 or 2023 someone changed the name of that listing to a Tim Hortons, despite the fact that all pictures and the review under that listing are of Savoir Fare. The Yelp moderators approved the change. I have since submitted multiple requests to change it back to Savoir Fare and the Yelp moderators rejected my submissions. So I've created this new listing and here we are. O_o (45)
