I had high expectations of Benedict's Store, after great recommendations from friends and family. It has all the ingredients for a surefire hit: quirky retro design, great location and prospect of great coffee and food. However, in short I was a little disappointed with the overall experience. The air con was too high and made the place quite chilly. The Monmouth coffee was great, but the food left a lot to be desired. The selection is narrow and my cheese and bacon quiche was lukewarm at the top and cold at the bottom, the pastry a bit soggy and it could have been tastier. The same can be said of the salad: a bit insipid with far too much fruit in it and tasteless tomatoes. If I return I will get a toasted sandwich. The Portuguese pastéi de nata was the saving grace however, completely delicious and I could have easily gone for another. The well stocked shelves of select produce and homeware items were appealing and I want to give this place another chance to impress. read more
