ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA is home to one of the largest collections of Street Art I've seen anywhere…read morein the South. The sheer range of styles is sure to please a wide audience from mural fanatics to newbies! --- At my core is a wild & eccentric looking guy dressed in casual clothes (probably made of linen) and holding a DSLR camera in one hand and an artists paint brush in the other. I have been into the arts for as long as I can remember. I spent many a morning as a child sketching everything from the scenery outside my window to abstract thoughts that lodged into my mind. My ability to tap into my right brain continued to be developed through my high school years where I created some of my best pieces only to find them stolen after being submitted to a local art fare. I honestly don't think I ever recovered and for a long time I tried to recreate those pieces, but couldn't. As an adult, my focus shifted to architectural, landscaping  & interior design as well as photography. On ANY given day you will find me designing my dream home or working on photobook projects of my family or sketching landscaping plans for friends, family, and neighbors or hiking in beautiful scenic trails as I immerse myself in the beauty of God's artistry. My love for art is deep and infinite. You probably could not separate the molecules that make me a person from those that make an artist an artist. They are in every fiber of my being. So when I came across the mural project going on in downtown St. Pete around 2015, I nearly leaped out of my car (as I was driving) just to be among the colors and thoughts of those who created each of the individual pieces. The displays range in size from small street planters to the entire sides of buildings. In 2015, most of the murals were concentrated in alleys between Central Avenue and 1st Avenue North, from 4th Street all the way to 24th Street... but now they are literally all over the city. SHINE is a not-for-profit mural art project made up of local artists and members of the community and they have been hosting festivals for a number of years now. Each year new murals have been created and continue to enhance the city landscape for the enjoyment of local businesses, residents and tourists like me. Time seemed to be irrelevant as I was lost in each of the pieces and the creativity of the artists vision. I truly believe EVERY city should have a mural project that continuously expresses the beauty of thought. I'm so grateful my hometown of Atlanta has such a program. I am also grateful to have witnessed the beauty of this artistry alive all over St. Pete and happy to see it continues to expand and grow. If you have the capacity to truly appreciate the power of expression through art, you should make it a priority to experience these murals for yourself. There are quotes on the wall as well as quotes printed out that you are invited to take. I love to take one and put on my bulletin board. It's a two story museum with plenty of glass art to see. There is often a scavenger hunt that is available, which is a fun way to encourage patrons to view all of the galleries. I've been a member for about four years now. It's one of the most affordable ways to get NARM access in St Pete.

Since I work in higher ed and had my ID, I was given $4 off, which I certainly appreciated. I'd been to the Chihuly Museum in Seattle as well, so I was looking forward to this collection. This museum is a good deal smaller than the other one out west. But in a way, I didn't mind that because I was able to spend extra time on the pieces they did have. Sometimes quality over quantity is ok. You can also get a free audio tour via your phone by scanning a QR Code, which I definitely recommend to get more history and context about the sculptures. I did not have time for the glass blowing demo as it started at 12 and I only had one day in St Pete and I was heading to a baseball game. I was hoping to get some merch, but it was a little pricier than I would have liked.

The selections in the exhibition are beautiful. Each one is surprisingly more beautiful and different than the next one. The service in the gift shop where you purchase your ticket is especially great. You can ask questions and receive polite answers. I really enjoyed my visit. Don't forget to watch the live glass demonstration across the street at the Morean Arts center. Tips are appreciated.

Hidden between Central and 1st Ave N, around where 7th Street would be if it cut through, is a…read morenon-descript parking lot for Morean Glass Studio and other businesses. But, also here for those in the know... incredible murals on the buildings... Drop by and take a walk through the alleys. You will notice other appreciators of the arts doing the same. This particular shark mural is amazing. The bright color literally jumps right off the building and you can even stand in the shark's gaping maw if you dare. I love the transformation that is happening to St Petersburg. Let's all support the local art scene and local businesses and amazing things will continue to happen!

There is a docent, I can not remember her…read morename but she's an MBA from Chicago, who opened my eyes to the untold stories of Black cowboys and turned my attention to a few of the pieces. There are a series of quilts in particular that are absolutely breath taking. One identifies the often forgotten York, and his role in navigating resulting in the known history of Lewis and Clark. I went on days when the museum entry was waived (Juneteenth and during the month of July it's free for educators). Western art is not so much my preferred style so I don't think I'd pay to visit, but if this is your jam, head on over! The galleries will take you two plus hours to check out, so it's a nice place to stop in when you're looking for something to do in St Petersburg.

What I love about this micro brewey is that it would be a cool hangout place for those who are not beer lovers as well as beer lovers. They have wine, cocktails and nonalcoholic cocktails. They have a cool outdoor patio with a stage and a large covered seating area. They have several unique seating areas inside. One area is like an upscale lounge, one is more set up for watching sports, another is an intimate area for conversation and cocktails, and the final area is like a traditional taphouse. There is a permanent food truck vendor that serves excellent Mexican food that goes great with an Outcast bev. I had the cherry lime hard soda and the Hey Ya! IPA. Both delicious! There is a decent sized parking lot in front and some street parking around it. This is definitely agreat hangout place!

(We received a discount for bringing our own bikes). I might mention that one of our group was extremely timid and very slow to ride her e-trike. Doug was patient and insisted that it was "our" tour as we liked it. No pressure for her. St Pete has cordoned biking lanes, plus the Pinellas trail, so no actual traffic interaction.
