I'm a retired US Navy Captain having served ~ 28 years, towards the end of my Navy career I acquired a condition which was later ruled a disability (spasmodic dysphonia). I highly recommend Bender Consulting Services Inc. When I met Bender and was introduced to the Careers2B program, it was a very different experience. The recruiters listened to my career interests and goals and had strong relationships with their employers allowing them to identify an opportunity that would be beneficial to both parties. Accepting the opportunity with Bender allowed me to not only move out on my own, but to go to a new city. Exploring everything Pittsburgh has to offer has been an awesome and exciting experience. There's always something new to see or do. Also, it's a great boost to my self-esteem to navigate a new city on my own. Of course, getting a paycheck and feeling responsible for my own life has been terrific too. I dont understand what Bender does. As part of my wider job search I submitted all the paperwork to Bender and did not hear from them for EIGHT MONTHS. When they did contact me, they quickly set up an hour long phone call with a recruiter who stood me up, never calling or canceling our appointment. The next week, I get another employee calling me giving me a weirdly uncomfortable and offensive speech on the concept of hiring people with disabilities. He said he would start looking for positions for me. I never heard from anyone again. During all of this time I have been applying to federal jobs through USAJOBS.gov and ultimatly received three job offers and accepted one very very good position. I am a highly qualified and experienced candidate with a targeted disability and a graduate degree who was able to navigate this whole thing successfully by myself. It seems like Bender would have an easy time placing me if they had tried at all. I went to check on how much they are receiving from their federal contract, and am very happy to share that their federal funding has been slashed in the last few years. It was only $110K in 2016 down from a high in $491K in 2012. There are lots of dead-ends in any job search, Bender Consulting is a particularly time consuming and agitating one. read more

If I could give this placement service no stars that would be ideal; however, you are unable to move forward without doing so. I highly advise those who consider working with Bender to READ thsi review in its entirety. When Bender Consulting initially reached out to me, the opportunity was met with much excitement and exhilaration. Being a newbie to the various resources for persons with disabilities, the first experience left by Bender Consulting has produced various red flags for me moving forward. Most striking to me, were the various reviews by other disabled individuals on public forums who expressed the same concern. In addition, there was no additional initiative to rectify the issue after they failed twice to reach out to me for 2 seprate "interviews". When scheduling interviews, it should always be strategic to the organization and to the person being interviewed. While each of our times are valuable, simply missing a scheduled phone interview is unacceptable. As time passed, I decided to reach out to the main number. Though I was inconvenienced, I recognize that various impediments such as poor hiring requirements or issues with technical interview scheduling do happen. After I emailed my concerns and CC'd multiple individuals, a recruitment specialist reached out to me, apologzied, expressed his concern and scheduled yet again another interview. In addition, the recruitment specialist addressed my concerns about the other negative reviews and suggested that those arent people who have worked with their company and it resonated that their reviews werent accurate/impressionable or noteworthy. Hiring and interviewing is a process. Though I may merely be a number to their organization, they have missed out on potential placing many outstanding employees in federal or private position (that would have been a representation of not only your organization but also speaks to your ability to identify and select candidates that match the requirements of a job announcement). Your organization serves as a liaison at placing qualified disabled persons in specific positions; however, it becomes invaluable when individuals aren't doing their job. I haven't actually done business with this business because they never keep scheduled appointment times for phone calls, emails have to be resent twice to get an answer. I came across their contact information in a job posting on usajobs.gov. If this is how they operate I don't see how they can effectively place people. Doesn't seem worth the time or effort to even register. read more

Being an intern at Bender Consulting Services was an honor. I previously thought I wouldn't want to work for a for-profit company, but Bender Consulting truly puts heart into its work. My managers were both caring and fun to work with, and I was grateful not to be treated as lesser than my colleagues because of being an intern. They treated me with respect, and they were very approachable and understanding of the learning process. The internship program has room for growth (including needing to tailor the program to be more organized, given how many different interns work there; as well as increasing the wage, as it is currently not competitive with comparable human resources internships in the area). However, I am confident that the program will grow and will result in even better outcomes for management, interns, and candidates. Bender consulting has a sweetheart deal with the federal government. In other words, it's contract is exclusive and it has no competitors. Nonetheless, Bulletin 119 published in 2010 by the US Dept. of Commerce requires agencies working to find employment for disabled people to act affirmatively to find work for disabled people. Bender is a passive company that collects resumes and puts them all in a "shared pool". The owner is living large off her exclusive contract with the feds. She probably doesn't want to make waves, She and her staff do nothing but help with resume preparation and...that's it folks read more

Bender Consulting is supposed to assist the federal government in finding Schedule A employees to be employed by the federal government. When you apply, they send you a "questionnaire" that is 1) not ADA compliant, and 2) asking for so much information it is as if they are trying to set the barrier extremely high. For example, they ask you to list all of the relevant projects you have ever had at all your places of employment that demonstrate you have each skill that you state on your resume. In addition, non of the links to their FAQ's work. It seems they don't really want to actually find Schedule A employees, but enjoy having the fed contract nonetheless. read more

If you are highly enough functioning as a disabled person to ask informed questions of Bender, my experience has been "there will be nothing available". Pliable , non-assertive persons only welcome. I would rate no star if possible. Beware of Bender -- I don't recommend Bender Consulting Services because my experience with Bender, and my opinion of Bender, is that they are using people with disabilities to make money. I believe this is highly unethical. Bender does not share with candidates what the job position is when they ask the candidate to go interview, because the candidate is often not qualified for the job or it is only a "meet and greet," - not a real interview. In my opinion, I am suspicious that Bender makes it money from companies who request to meet disabled candidates so that the company or government organization can "check the box" that they have considered candidates with disabilities. The Bender employees call, but don't seem to know what the candidates disability or qualifications are. Make sure your resume is accurate and honest, and only go on interviews for which you are well qualified for. Bender employees don't review resumes before contacting potential candidates. You may possibly get a job through Bender but it is unlikely. Be careful, do not waste your time. read more

I have to agree with every review here concerning Bender Consulting. They take forever to reach out to you, do nothing when they finally do call you and they try to push you into jobs that have nothing to do with your qualifications, I assume they get a kickback from certain companies and that is why they push those positions. I would not waste your time with them. read more

BENDER CONSULTATION SERVICES FOR DISABLE PERSONS BACKED BY OPM On 6/23/2014, I participated in a phone interview with Katherine Noble at 10:30 (PST). Miss Noble was very professional and thoroughly explained the services Bender Consultation provides, screened me for possible representation via Bender services, then verified and documented my credentials. Thereafter, Miss Noble referred me to Mr. Gerald Homme to partake in the next phase of the interview process. 06/24/2014, I participated in a phone interview with Gerald Homme at 11:30 (PST). Mr. Homme was also very professional and courteous. Immediately after the second phase screening process, I was under the impression that my information would be displayed in an enterprise database for employer visibility with the caveat that I send an updated resume within recommended format. Mr. Homme stated that he would send me an example of a preferred format, but I have not received the email to date 6/27/2014. I did call Miss Noble and leave a message on the answering machine 6/25/2014, then called later the same day and left a message with another Bender representative requesting Miss Noble or Mr. Homme to contact me via email or phone. 6/26/2014, I again tried to contact Miss Noble at Bender Consultation (412-787-8567), but reached the previous representative as on 6/25. Again, I left a message requesting feedback from Miss Noble or Mr. Homme, but have not received any communications to date 6/27/2014. My initial thinking was; people go on vacation, higher priority events arise, or sometime people just forget, but after several attempts to communicate with no response. I feel ignored, avoided, and disrespected by Bender Consultation, the organization the Office of Personnel Management recommends to represent disabled persons for employment. OPM, should feel ashamed to be affiliated, recommend, or work with Bender Consultation. read more

I am highly disappointed in the lack of professionalism recently shown to our son. After spending several thousand dollars to relocate him, have him interview with their client,interview with them, fill out numerous pieces of documentation and starting a position with their client was terminated by phone not in person the day before a scheduled Process Improvement Plan was supposed to take place at jobsite with Bender representative and client manager. He was told he 'wasn't worth it'. Wrote to CEO and she passed it off to same underlink who terminated him via phone!! Was not contacted regarding benefits (had just received health insurance card), last paycheck,obtaining Cobra but was instructed to send his badge back RIGHT AWAY! How low can a consulting company who professes to work strictly with adults with disabilities treat a person with disabilities this way?? read more

Interning at Bender was a great experience for me. I was always interested to see what things were like from an HR perspective and that's exactly what I got here. I've never experienced a more family-like work atmosphere until I interned at Bender. Everyone welcomed me, they were all kind and caring. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. They are very determined to accomplish their mission and put the work in to do so. I would highly recommend Bender to anyone looking for an internship/job.
