I was going to leave one star but I had had a haircut in the past with Nina who is a good hairdresser. I guess that's why she is always busy. I am not particular with hairdressers so I pick whoever is available in the moment because I never ask anything complicated. Just a straight haircut with a little trim and a blowdry or plain mousse in the end. Too bad I couldn't remember Nina's name today and request for her and got stuck with Anna. I don't like leaving bad reviews because it could cost someone their business or job but customers must know where they are spending their money. Especially when these kind of services aren't cheap or free. Today I spent $65 plus tip for a lousy haircut and blow-dry. I don't even have that much of hair to begin with. My hair is very fine and plain. Obviously I will not be returning. What kind of hairdresser replies with search in Google when you ask her how to strengthen your weak hair? What's the point in going to the salon when you can't even ask a question about your hair. Anna was constantly struggling with trying to cut my hair as if she was using scissors for the first time in her life. The result of course was terrible. I could have done a better job myself at home and it wouldn't cost me money and time or frustration. Lastly my blow-dry was also bad. Constantly pulling my fragile hair and burning my skin while she was pressing the dryer on my head. She saw my discomfort but proceeded anyway. I guess she is not good in understanding peoples vibes or emotions either. I left quietly because I don't like making a scene but, I am also making sure other people know what to expect if they ever decide to visit this salon. Also always ask for prices beforehand because they like to ask you whatever they like in the end. 40 for a cut and 25 for the blowdry after all this is insane for an amateur doing your hair to say the least. I needed a wash and set, and sadly, Astoria is not like Brooklyn, where rollers are the norm at almost every salon. I found Casablanca after doing a Yelp search. I then called to confirm that they were open and to inquire if they did rollers. Jackpot! The man on the phone said "yes," and before hanging up said "you have to come soon because the lady who does it is about to leave," and I replied, sure no problem. Upon arriving the man greets me and sends me over to Paula. I handed her all of my hair products and let her wash my hair. I should've known once she sat me on her chair to do the rollers; she was moving too slow. I personally know how to style hair so I can pick up when someone does not know what they are doing. After my hair was dried, I asked her to tame down my roots by blow drying them. Everything went downhill from this point. Paula could not style a single strand of my hair properly. For starters, she was using the wrong brush and letting the blow dryer puff up my hair. I told her nicely how to go about it, but Paula still didn't get it so I gave up and said I would finish it up myself at home. She was quiet and did not sweat it one bit. I then asked her how much I owed her and she said to speak to the boss (the man who answered the phone and greeted me). I then walked over to the man and asked once again how much did I owe? He hits me with "it's $47." I thought I misheard him, so I repeated it back to him, and he said: "yes, $47!" I then pointed at my hair and said, are you kidding me? Does my hair look like it's been styled to you? He pauses. Then says, "those are our prices." Which I then replied with I understand, but you have to be kidding me right now. I asked him again, does my hair look like it's been styled? No answer; instead, he proceeds to raise his voice and rant about how the lady was doing what I instructed her and that she was supposed to leave earlier but waited for me. How they've been in business for 30yrs and yadda yadda yadda. I was compelled to karate kick him but contained myself. I told him that he knew he was wrong and that it wasn't so much the money but the principle of the situation. I paid and left Paula a tip. I would never step foot in this business. At no point did I lose my shit or act rude for this Mike (the owner/the boss) to come out of his face the way he did after I was standing there with my hair looking crazy. FOH.

Found them opening at 7am, perfect. I got there 7:27 am. Only 1 guy ahead of me. Barber was like "I got you next" I said "ok cool". The guy ahead of me was only getting a trim with the clippers and shape up his beard. This barber, bald with tattoos took his sweet time. He talked on his phone for like 3 mins, talked to the guy in the chair the whole time stopping the cut each time, walked outside to talk to someone else also. Another customer came in and he spoke to him for a few mins in spanish telling him I should be a quick cut don't worry so the guy walked off saying ok he'll come back. He showed the guy in the chair a video for a few mins, he picked up his weights for a bit before starting the guys cut. From 7:27am I didn't even get a cut and I was still there at 8:07. I'm beyond dissatisfied. I've lived in BK for 28 years, I'm real cool, I've worked in customer service jobs, had desk jobs and physical labor, sales for places like UPS, Sprint, Bestbuy, Public Libraries, call centers, you name it. I'm extremely versatile. Never lost sight of customer satisfaction. Just be quick, courteous and effecient, 20-25 mins max, there's no reason I should be waiting 40 mins+ for 1 guy not even getting a full cut. I wasn't even in the chair when I decided to say forget it. Have consideration for customers. I'm not recommending this place, I'm always going to remember this and every review site is hearing about my experience.

Ferrazz was kind enough to offer a complimentary cut and balayage via Salon Apprentice in exchange for promotional photos for his salon space. I was pretty excited because I figured since he is the owner, I'd be in good hands. Ferrazz was kind and welcoming and gave me a decent haircut. I did think it was a little strange that he cut my hair first because usually, they cut first and then color. However, when the time came to apply my balayage highlights, I could tell that things were not going to go well and started to regret my decision to accept this service. I asked for subtle balayage highlights toward the bottom of my long, never-dyed hair. Instead, he started painting big, chunky pieces all over my head without seeming to care where they landed. The pieces went all the way up my scalp and included big, awkward sections near the front that stood out oddly. As I watched the color develop and turn orange, I started to freak out on the inside but kept my cool despite myself. After all, I thought, this guy is an experienced professional, and I need to *trust* him. After he washed out the color and started to dry my hair, I couldn't believe how awful it was. My hair was ORANGE all over -- big, bold, brassy stripes of ocre had taken over my entire head -- some of them quite patchy. I just about cried but didn't know what to say. He tried to hide the color disaster by giving me a ridiculous, excessively curly blowout (which I did not like). Then, I had to suffer through being photographed in this state for about 25 minutes. I tipped him $40 because...I felt guilty I guess? In all honesty, I was foolish to accept a free color but having had several good experiences on Salon Apprentice and the fact that Ferrazz is the salon owner made me feel safe I guess. When I got home, I found out that it was worse than I even realized before. After straightening the curly mess, I realized that the entire underlayer of my hair was bleached out and that the tiger stripes ran all over my the top layer. There was no hiding it with a hairstyle or headband. I did text Ferrazz the next day, and he offered to fix it, but I just didn't feel comfortable having him come near me with color or chemicals again. Worse yet, I'm getting married soon and had to go to Miami to see family. After I returned, I ended up paying a lot for a color correction and the stylist who did it couldn't believe what was done to me.
