The park also hosts the annual art fair and other pop up events. My favorite thing about this park is that it is not super crowded. While the weekends might boost the number of visitors, the park is usually still fairly peaceful. We've met photographers here before as the sculptures and sceneries do introduce lovely backgrounds for photoshoots. We've also just spent some time strolling with our pup on beautiful days. There is an education center to learn about the park. Aside from beautiful nature scenes and flowers, there is a large eyeball which is quite an entertaining conversational piece, a very tall human piece, a leafy looking piece made of wood, a large moose (I think?) and so much more! If you haven't made the trip, take some time to check this place out on a morning or an afternoon stroll and check out some outdoor arts!

But once you start walking the walking paths, you realize that the park is quite big and seems to stretch into the distance due to the hilly nature of the park. This place was....interesting…read more I'll be honest, it popped up as a pumpkin patch. My sister just moved to the area and was looking for one close for her kiddos, and this was around the corner, so we decided to give it a try. To start, it was $10/person to get in, which wasn't really promoted. We've lived many different places and have never had to pay to get into a pumpkin patch, so that was a surprise. Kids were the same price, also a surprise. The property is pretty cool, they have some farm animals. They sold food to buy but half the animals you couldn't feed and the other half were already full from being fed so much. We assumed it was a regular petting zoo and bought some food before seeing it, so we ended up with leftover bags of food and no animals to feed. The hay ride only went once hourly so you basically had to wait around forever if you wanted to ride it. The maze was cool and the concept seemed really fun to find a message BUT the first word on the message was "God" and honestly, nowhere did they promote this farm as a religious-based experience. Lastly - the pumpkins. We came here for one reason. They don't even grow pumpkins on site, they ship them in, and they don't keep them stocked. I think we had like 20-30 pumpkins to choose from, if that, and they were picked over. We had a 4YO and a 6YO and they couldn't pick any of the pumpkins up, all the kid size ones were already sold. I feel like this could be a good spot for what it is, and if it was marketed as that - a Christian family fun farm experience. But, that's not what we had expected based on the marketing they had, so it was a bit of a disappointment for us.

Our tour was supposed to run about forty minutes, but we asked a lot of questions and it lasted over an hour- oops. Lots of furniture that was original to the family (not the case with the nearby Lemp Mansion). Ask if you can go on the balcony- they let us and it has a great view of the yard and surrounding buildings. The guide was so knowledgable- she was able to answer every question about the house that our group of four asked. The gift shop is nice-sized and rather inexpensive- a mixture of antiques, books, and other items. I was disappointed that the Cafe is closed while they look for a new tenant, but went to Gus's Pretzels nearby instead.

I was quite charmed by the house and especially the tour guide. On Bastille Day, the ticket price was a little higher than typical, at $12, but it included french dancing, storming the Bastille, plus the mock decapitation of Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI. The House Tour was excellent, and interesting, not to mention historical and educational. It was well worth the money mostly due to the humorous delivery and knowledge of the tour guide. The restrooms are nice, and located in the new carriage house; street parking is easy to find and free. I missed the gift shop and world's fair collection but will be sure to catch that next time. Not sure this trip has enough kid-friendly activities to keep kids interested. This is certainly a worthy destination for those looking to deepen their french roots on Bastille Day. As a bonus, the food truck "Holy Crepe" shows up on Bastille Day too.
