Constantly scolding the kind cashiers in front of customers for very minor transgressions which is not a good look. Very disrespectful atmosphere. No wonder turnover rate seems high. Little containers of fudge at checkout covered in fuzzy white mold. Frozen goods are icy/freezerburnt and seem like they've been defrosted several times. Prices are consistently high. They recently added a self check that has not been turned on/usable a single time in the few dozen times I've been here, what's the point? I go here because it's 15 minutes closer than Felton Safeway, but the "convenience" is heavily outweighed by other factors.

It's not that hard to detect fruits and veggies past their prime. Packaged food literally has the date printed on it. If you're buying stuff like packaged blueberries, open the packaging and inspect the blueberries quickly, you'll find out in a matter of a few seconds if things are good. Fresh blueberries have a kind of frost sheen and are very firm. For fish, a quick eye test will tell you if there's anything wrong with it, and you can always ask the fishmonger for a quick sniff too. I liked this market quite a bit in particular because I found a brand of potato chips which I hadn't seen before. Made by an Irish company, they cut the potatoes thick with the skins on for maximum texture and earthiness. The flavor I chose was Black Truffle with Butter and oh my was it difficult to put down the bag. So smooth with balanced truffle aromas and a hint of black pepper to make things interesting. I am going to try to find this brand in the stores closer to me because Ben Lomond is one hell of a drive from South Bay...

Organic all the way for many products here. I got a sandwich for a picnic. What a wonderful experience. The service was friendly and efficient. They don't add a lot of salt and pepper on the same, so feel free to pick up some packets if you are feeling particularly salty.

Although we don't do all of our grocery shopping here, cause that would be fairly expensive and they don't have everything we need for our big grocery runs, we do shop here at least 2-3 times a week. Very frequently grabbing a sandwich, or sushi or something else easy on the go. The produce is great, the meat we've gotten from the butcher has been good, but we don't buy it often. Big praise for Patrick and Peggy in the deli, those two are amazing employees. Helpful, patient and always polite. I understand not all the customers are easy, that's an understatement, but those two hold it down and are awesome. A couple of the younger guys in the deli are a bit grumpy and seem to hate their job, but not a big deal. Also love Max, who works the register but usually stocks, he's awesome too. He's super helpful and works fast, nice guy. Give Patrick, Peggy and Max a raise! Their signature sandwiches are generously sized and the ingredients are quality. Fairly priced for what we've come to expect these days. The premade breakfast burritos are great, so is a lot of the other food you can get from the deli area. I don't get the hot food much cause it's pretty expensive by the pound for any meat dish, but when I've gotten it it's always been tasty.

Treating customers like this will not generate income and if the guy wasn't so aggressive and almost starting a fight I'd be reporting him to management. Pretty unique flavors that aren't that easy to find elsewhere. It's right next to Johnnie's Super, so you can park your car in either location and check out both stores at the same time. Pretty convenient! Honestly, almost everything in the town of Boulder Creek is all in that one clump. You could totally grab a drink at Wild Roots or Johnnie's and sip away while checking out antiques at Boulder Creek Antiques nearby. Wild Roots does seem to be a chain as I noticed another one in neighboring Felton. For me personally that's not an issue but if you're a stickler for "local" local then you might want to try other stores.

The prices are high, the food quality as far as the hot food in the back is marginal at best. The employees are not friendly. If you do not have your own bag, they will charge you fifty cents for a brown paper bag. This is the most expensive of any supermarket in the local area. The only redeeming factor is their fruit is some of the best even better than the large chains. Johnnies can do much better.

I liked this little supermarket (would hesitate to call it a proper supermarket but I'll respect…read moretheir own naming convention) quite a bit! In particular, they had the Vita Coco Pressed Coconut Beverage which I like better than regular coconut water because they blend additional coconut meat into the drink which enhances the creaminess and overall taste. It was really affordable at $2.99 for 16.9 oz. Normally I see the same product reaching $4 or more at other stores. I would imagine it's not that easy to drive Hwy 9 to get down here, so I'm not sure how they're able to sell it for that cheap, but the product tasted fine and was well before expiry. Perhaps the rent is just much cheaper for stores there? I would most definitely stop by again the next time I'm on Hwy 9 for a quick snack and drink combo!
