We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our hike of the West Highland Way, and had the best time here! The staff was wonderful (although it's obvious that they were all horse thieves, pirates and highway men in an earlier life, they were so friendly and helpful, they made us feel very welcome). The food was great (I'm still dreaming about that delicious steak and Guinness pie). The atmosphere made you feel like you'd stepped back in time-- lamp light and muskets and stuffed puffins and a bear in a Drovers t-shirt and kilt. OK, maybe not TOTALLY historically accurate, but history mixed with wit and a sense of fun. They tell me this inn is haunted. It must be by friendly, fun-loving spirits. On our first night there was live music at the bar. We enjoyed the singer/ guitar & harmonica player very much, but it all kicked up a notch when he got the whole room to join in on the singing. Everyone was clapping, stomping and pounding the table, while belting out a rousing rendition of "The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond". I can't remember enjoying a meal more. On our second night there, the power went out (thank you, Hurricane Amy). The staff showed that although they are retired horse thieves and pirates, they take their current jobs in hospitality very seriously. They could not complete cooking of the evening meals, so it was a quick pivot to sandwiches for all. They handled it with professionalism and grace that made the inconvenience part of the adventure (as one staff member quipped, it was all part of the haunted experience). Breakfast, too, was pulled together with what was available and ingenuity, as they made instant coffee and tea with water heated on the wood stove, and we feasted on cold cereal and granola bars. But as the staff met the challenges with good humor and made the best effort to make it a good experience for the guests, we walked away with an abundance of good memories and an enduring fondness for the Drovers Inn (and its resident horse thieves, pirates and highway men).

We have stayed in the hobbit houses, the hostel and the chalets. Each was different in its own way, all good sleeps in each. The hostel is great as there is a kitchen where you can bring your own things to eat. There is a large fridge, toasters, microwave and kettles. Bathroom is shared, clean and not faults. Wifi is sporadic but didn't find it an issue. In the hobbit house there is one double bed across the back and two small beds along the length of the house. It has a tv, microwave and kettle. There is a small heater for when it gets a little chilly. Bathrooms are outside in a block and shared, clean and no faults. No complaints, what you see is what you get. Staff are really friendly and will do anything to help if there is anything wrong.

My pie was very tasty, but there were several large globs of fat in there that weren't as good. My daughter also treated me to a fancy scotch, the BUNNAHABHAIN 40. It was grand. For dessert I had the cheesecake, but my group loved the sticky toffee pudding best. The service is fantastic. Lauren and George were especially good. I will come back!

Great dinner - amazing location…read more We were staying in one of the self-catering apartments of this Hotel. Location is great - just sitting at the lovely and quiet Loch Awe. The first night we were a bit tired from the drive and didn't feel like cooking, so we visited the restaurant. It's nice and bright with great views of the Loch. Service was very friendly. We had the Goat's Cheese Salad (Grilled Goat's cheese served with roasted peppers, salad leaves, soda bread and raspberry balsamic dressing) and the Haggis Bon Bons (Crispy Haggis balls set on roasted tomato and chili chutney served with salad garnish) for a starter. Both equally good, but especially the Bon Bons were a pleasant surprise, good tasting Haggis! For the mains we had the Salmon with veggies and potatoes (daily special) and the Traditional Fish & Chips (haddock served in a beer batter served with chunky chips, peas and Tartar sauce). Both fish tasted very fresh and tender. Hot and crispy chips. With that we had a bottle of White wine, a Sauvignon Blanc Panul from the Lontué Valley, Chile. Fresh, fruity and crisp. Just 18£. We really had a great dinner. Good, fresh food for very fair prices, especially given the fantastic location. If you just come for dinner without staying here, the way back on the one-way street might be a bit dark. Luckily our way home was just a few steps :)

I couldn't have asked for a more charming place to stay in Scotland…read more A large crackling fire welcomed us into a cozy lobby, where we enjoyed a cup of tea in the 16th century reception. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, cooked to order, both with options for traditional Scottish dishes. We had an early travel day planned planned and ordered our breakfast the night before, when we arrived downstairs our table was set and waiting for us, our breakfast out within moments. Everyone we encountered was so kind and welcoming, you can tell this is a family that pours a lot of love and pride into their business. On our last night we were lucky enough to enjoy a Scottish whisky tasting with John! I was so impressed with his knowledge, I learned so much about whisky and Scotland. The parking lot was very spacious, rooms comfortable with a few little quirks due to the building being HUNDREDS of years old, which completely added to the charm. I can not recommend Luib Hotel enough if you're looking for a more authentic way to experience Scotland and meet some warm, genuine locals along the way.
