I was hesitant at…read morefirst to use a broker but I travel for work and it made my life easier having them do it for me. Plus, after actually seeing their showroom and shop, I knew they were an actual dealership. I have owned a few other boats in the past and have always ended up selling them privately on CL. For those of you that have done the same, you know how that can go. You can end up with a great buyer or the other buyer. I have dealt with both. That being said, this is why I am so pleased with RPM. You never deal with the buyer, they do. RPM details your boat, markets your boat, repairs or upgrades the boat (with your consent), and most importantly, sells your boat. All you do is provide your boat and collect the money when it's sold. RPM is a legitimate dealer, so they handle the paperwork as well, another perk of not selling privately. Unlike other consignment dealers, they do not work off of a percentage, you get the proceeds from the sales, they make money on their dealer services (financing, warranties, servicing). They are also located on the lake, so buyers get to test drive the boat right there.
If you are looking to sell your boat, you have choices. You can go the private route which can always work out but comes with it's own risk, or you can have a broker do it. After researching brokers, this is one of the only dealers I would consider. They are honest and up front. They also back their sale with a one year warranty as standard, which is something you can't do privately.
If you are considering using RPM, here are a couple things I would like to point out.
1) They do charge you a marketing fee up front which may vary due to the nature of the sale. My boat was in the $10K range, so it was $350. For that price, they detailed the boat, took pictures, and posted it on multiple sites (not CL) including their own. When you think about doing all that yourself, that money is worth it.
2) Before they even touch your boat, you agree to a price point that you are trying to reach with the sale of the boat. It is up to you if you want to lower the price, they will not sell it for less than you agree to.
3) You are welcome to take back your boat at any time if you change your mind.
4) Before they sell your boat they do a full inspection to make sure they can sell it and honor their one-year warranty. If your boat needs repairs, they consult with you before doing anything.
