I wish the school was a little more affordable, I wish the freshman male dorm room they showed us didn't have mold (my kiddo is allergic) They did a fantastic job showcasing their strength, the academics and their small classroom size. Everyone was so friendly and eager to share their experience at the Belmont. The campus is absolutely beautiful, it was like stepping into a bubble inside Nashville. I loved it, my kiddos loved it. The don't take student mental health seriously and if you go to the counseling there, they will spread your info to the dean of nursing if you're a nursing major and they'll suspend you and take away your livelihood. The reason they have a 99-100% NCLEX pass rate is they will do anything and everything to kick you out if you are not want they want. They care more about looks than creating good nurses. Belmont Nursing also wants to pride itself on supporting student mental health by creating apps for us to use and having a LCSW specialist for the nursing program but when you actually confide in them they'll turn your back on you and kick you out. On a recent trip to Nashville our Housing unit was not that far from here so we deviated off one day for a walk to take a closer look. This was on the advice of our Lyft driver who mentioned it was the site of a presidential debate and a very lovely building. Both passions of mine so of course I had to get a closer look. With that said, So my review is travel related not student educational curriculum related. Although the founders were teachers so this retired teacher likes that fact. I have been telling everyone since I retired, and a lot as of late, that I think I chose the wrong life professions. If I had to do it over my career would be in preservation and or old school architect. This campus is simply stunning! If I chose to go to school here I am afraid I would never get to class. Sadly, we were short on time so did not take the tour of the mansion, nor get a peek inside the admissions office. I could kick myself now for that but it is a simply stunning campus for those lucky enough to attend here. I looked up graduate/law school fees and sadly even though teachers founded Belmont it is a private university and there is no way this retired public school teacher could afford classes here. Also, something to note. Folks in Nashville are pretty darn amazing. A delightful recent graduate actually stopped to give us directions. She actually walked us from the street to the campus because GPS is not excatly right in many areas of Nashville. That was so kind of her and she was so outgoing and friendly. Also, a theater graduate. Wooohooo, that is right up my alley so to speak since I work in a theater. Belmont U. expelled my niece because of her medical condition. She has POTS, and faints sometimes in her dorm or in the admin building when being subjected to high stress. She was in her junior year and on the Dean's List. Yes, I know it's a private university, but you'd think a Christian University would better accommodate disabled students. If your child is disabled, re-evaluate your reasons for choosing this school. read more

We did a beautiful walk on campus and enjoyed all of the beautiful buildings. There are so many food options! We didn't eat anywhere but I was told Bongo Java is delicious!! Belmont is the smaller, lesser known university located off Wedgewood/Blakemore Avenue. Although it might be a fraction of Vanderbilt's size, this private university still manages to pack an impressive punch. It might not be as reputed to the general population, but in certain circles, Belmont is considered one of the best. Its small population makes it a very personal academic experience. The student to professor ratio is excellent, giving you easy access for an individualized learning experience. Their facilities are exceptional, just scaled down, and they're continually adding new features to make the school the best it can be. Belmont is mainly known for its music and music business programs which draw students from all over the country. This lends the campus an incredibly laid back air and encourages artistic and intellectual development on all levels. Although a large portion of its small population is comprised of would be entertainment industry movers and shakers, the school is also making a name for itself in more traditional degree areas. There is a growing emphasis on science at Belmont. Their nursing school is popular and they just opened a Pharmacy School, one of the first in Nashville. Belmont is a Christian University that since breaking with the Baptist Convention, accepts many different backgrounds and ideals. They maintain a strong religious presence on the campus and its activities, but do not force their opinions as being the only way of thought as some Christian schools do. Belmont was proud to host a 2008 Town-hall presidential debate and prides itself on being actively involved in the Nashville community. They also have a fairly well known mens basketball team, which repeatedly makes it high up the NCAA ranks, an astounding feat for a school so tiny. The admissions price is fairly steep compared to local state schools, but not as pricey as Vanderbilt. The campus is beautiful, albeit small, and a lot of the buildings have been around for decades, including the mansion that was built in the 1800s. The campus is located on the outskirts of town near the 12th South District, and driving up Wedgewood towards I-65, its stunning, stately buildings are hard to miss. read more

As a current professional pharmacy student in a relatively new program, I understood the risks that I would be taking in enrolling in a program that was yet to be well established. My belief was that a well established University with a history of producing outstanding health care professionals, musicians, and businessman could only lead to a sucessful pharmacy program. And for the most part, I was right. Many of the College's accomplishments have been noteworthy including: * Twenty percent of the first graduating class receiving post-graduate residency training, a number exceeding the national average *A student interning at Johns Hopkins *A student interning with the Mayo Clinic * A student team placing in the top eight out of 85 in the 2011 ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge * A student serving as the president of the Tennesee Society of Student Pharmacists * A student being named the 2011 AACP Wal-Mart Scholar * A student receiving the Respect, Excellence and Service in Pharmacy Award presented by Wal-Mart and Pharmacy Times * A student team ranking in the top ten in the 2011 ASHP Clinical Skills Competition * A student ranking in the top twenty at the 2012 APhA National Patient Counseling Competition However, there have been many "growing pains" involved in fine tuning a "raw" program. I have not particularly been happy here, which may be due to a variety of factors including some that are not necessarily caused directly by the College and I did have my reservations about attending a Chirstian school (we are lead in prayer at many University events). This may alos be a case of me picking a school that was not a "good fit" for me. I know it should only get better with time, so I will reevaluate things at another point in the future. The University as a whole seems to be on-the-rise, with U.S. News including them in: Best Colleges Rankings #7 Regional Universities (South) Best Undergratuate Business Programs #3 Best Undergraduate Teaching #2 Up-and-Coming Schools Best Grad School Rankings Best Business Schools #142 Part-time M.B.A #234 Nursing #58 Occupational Therapy #51 Physical Therapy Some of the University's recent successes can probably be connected to the University severing ties with the ultra-conservative Tennesse Baptist Convention, and also including changing its nickname from Rebels to Bruins, and adding "sexual orientation" to its nondiscrimination policy in the wake of a national scandal involving the woman's soccer coach being fired after coming out to her team. Most noticably, in 2008, the University hosted the Presidental Town Hall Debate and the Rick Santorum campaign even stopped on campus in 2012. Another noticible moment included Maya Angelou speaking on campus in 2011. In addition, Belmont has served as a launch pad for the country music stars Brad Paisley, Le Ann Womack, Trisha Yearwood, and many others. Belmont would receive as least a three-star or four-star rating if it were not for my undergraduate experiences at my alma mater, the University of the Pacific, and my current frustrations with the pharmacy program. I will reiterate here that Belmont University as a whole is an institution I am proud to represent but there is so much room for improvement within the pharmacy program. read more

Oh my biscuits this campus is gorge! Beautiful school. It's like driving up to a posh 5 star hotel that opens up to a massive mansion but it's a college. Nashville schools compared to what I'm use to is just off the radar. You don't see all the greenery, beautiful architecture buildings, wide open spaces and manicured gardens. No, I've come accustomed to seeing blah buildings with no character and not well kept campuses. Another reason I love Nashville. Check out Belmont University and have a camera handy. This review is for the Belcourt Oscar shorts held at the Belmont theater in the Johnson Building. I'm aware that the building is only 5 months old, but it truly is a sight. The floors, hallways, theater, news room, etc. they are all fantastic. It's a good time to be a student at Belmont! The theater was spacious and the sound was wonderful. The shorts were good, but total tearjerkers. I teared up at 4 out of the 5. We arrived to the shorts early so we decided to take a walk around campus. It really is planned well. I like how insulated it feels and then steps away you have Belmont Boulevard at your fingertips! Next time it's a nice day and you are in the area, take a walk through campus. The quads are pretty impressive and the buildings spectaculr. It's a wonderful small, urban campus! read more

I was in the classical voice program at Belmont University after transferring. The staff in no way ignites enthusiasm or interest in the course area. I felt consistently run down and unsupported. The university is quite beautiful, but finances are allocated to very surface aspects and not more internal optimization of the program. read more

As a Belmont alum I have to give them five stars, or at least until I finish paying off my student loans. I can really only attest to the Music Business program, as that's what I have my BBA in. The university does have other majors, of course, that I'm sure do very well for themselves, but the majority of students are Music Business. I'm not sure the ranking this year, but the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business is consistently ranked in the Top 2 Music Biz schools in the country. The school holds a lot of fun events like their music showcases. Students compete in the Christian, Country, Pop, Rock and Alumni categories with real concert performances. The winners of each then put on the Best Of The Best showcase. Music Biz kids also put on a Latin Music Festival which is fun. This year it really shined when it hosted the town hall Presidential debate between now Pres. Obama and Senator McCain. The school's Curb Event Center (Are you seeing a pattern?) has also housed the CMT Awards and other such events. Beware, on campus you can only purchase Pepsi products - this lead to my hated of them and now I'll only drink Coke. Side note, all students are required to attend so many "seminar" type things in addition to course work before graduation. They're an hour long and on a range of topics. read more

I'm officially a Bruins fan. I started my MBA a few weeks ago, and I have to say, you just cannot do better than the faculty and staff at Belmont University. They are one of the most friendly, helpful group of people I've ever dealt with regarding higher education. I went to a large state university for my undergrad, and when I walked up, the first thing I was always asked (without anyone looking up) is "What's your student ID..." Well, that's really not how it works at Belmont. While it usually requires putting that information in at some point, most people know you by name and look up and smile before getting to the point. Nothing like a little southern hospitality! It definitely helps that these professors are fantastic teachers, and are always available to answer questions and offer guidance. They truly are a great group of talent and offer a plethora of knowledge. Overall, I'm pretty thrilled to be a part of the Belmont community! read more

If you want to be in the music business, Belmont may be a good fit. The school puts most of its resources towards Music business majors. Otherwise look elsewhere. The expense vs. availability of classes is a challenge. The school is also extremely compliance heavy - lots of rules and God forbid you are even perceived to have broken one; penalties are very harsh. Ironic considering Belmont touts itself a "Christian" school - grace is rarely extended. Also if you are not from the South - you'll be constantly questioned about why you are even at Belmont and subtly challenged by advisors and professors. Food quality in cafeteria leaves a lot to be desired. The price vs. value trade off is lacking... the school only makes sense if you really want to be in the music business. read more

My son has since transferred to a public university. No word at all from anyone at Belmont. It is VERY easy to be swayed by the amazingly beautiful campus in the middle of an It City. But he felt that, as a non-music-related major, it was difficult to find his tribe, so to speak. Their majors are still quite limited, and communication from staff is really lacking. It feels like Belmont's infrastructure has grown quickly but its staff and administration still have some catching up to do. read more

I decided to visit the new cafeteria, inexplicibly on the second floor of an oppressive poorly designed brand new building. The first thing you notice as you walk in is the tiny lobby with two small elevator banks for such a huge building, and a long line of students and various adults. With no front stair case to the immediate second floor, this makes it imossisble to gain acces to the second floor cafeteria without a long trek either up two inconveniently placed set of side stairs (which are not open to the public, you need Ids to get into the second floor stairwell doors), or just waiting for the elevator in an unbelievably small lobby space. The entire buiding inside has that 1990s feel, white noise humming in the background. This should be the first place you see when you visit campus. If you can't get a new multimillion dollar facility designed right, how are you going to design a sustainable future for your studenst? The answer is you won't. The negitive reviews here are all fair. Don't be fooled by a bunch of fancy Masonic style buildings. I never did make it to the new cafeteria, which I presume is no longer open to the public or visiting alumni. read more

Maybe I'm just not used to dealing with this type of elitest institution. Except for having to continue paying tuition, I was sad that my time at Belmont ended. Belmont has a beautiful campus. I loved the loving, Christian atmosphere, and the high quality legal education I obtained at the law school. Most of my professors were caring and highly knowledgeable. The security department at Belmont University went above and beyond the call of duty a few weeks ago for a damsel in distress who had locked her keys in her car. Mel, one of the supervisors, quickly came to the rescue at 10pm at night with smile on face! He was kind, considerate, and even made me laugh (which I needed at that particular moment). This isn't for the university itself but for the Starbucks on campus. I'm not a student but went with my boyfriend (who is) while he had tutoring and I stopped in the cafe to grab a quick Frappuccino. Now, I've worked at different Starbucks on and off since I was 16, at locations that were not primary Starbucks locations as well so I'm familiar with a store that's not full service. However, most come equipped with matcha powder but not this one. When I asked if I could get a Thin Mint Frappuccino, which is just a green tea frap with java chips and peppermint but has never, to my knowledge, been available on traditional menu options, instead of telling me they don't serve matcha or have off-menu items, one of the baristas was extremely rude. She loudly said, "Nobody reads anymore!" Rather than answer my question and when I said ok she continued to snark at me telling me, "this isn't a full service store, honey," which I was well aware of I was just checking out the menu options that were available since they were so limited. I felt rushed, talked down to and was reminded yet again why I don't go to Starbucks. Shitty customer service. I felt like I had to apologize to them for not automatically knowing what I wanted after that, and did, letting them know that I did not go to this school, had never been in their store before and wasn't familiar with the menu. The other barista seemed like she could tell I felt flustered and was more patient, but I only took a few minutes in the store and yet felt like I was a huge inconvenience to the people working. I won't ever feel tempted to visit this one again, but I thought people should get a heads up about the ridiculous lack of customer service. read more
