I've reviewed some pretty unusual buildings, but I have to say that, for me, Belmont Tower beats them all. Hands down. This stunning coffee shop / local venue was where I went to school for three years, from the age of 5 to 7. Back then (which really wasn't that long ago), the principal was having huge problems trying to get funding / finance for the school building, which was, at this stage, in such a dire condition that we sat with buckets in our ground floor classroom. I kid you not. The upstairs was completely out-of-bounds, as it was so dangerous. A couple of years later (when I had left, of course), a brand new school was built, and the tower was renovated into its current state.
History lesson over for the day, and moving swiftly onto the review in hand...
Today was a 'coffee' date for a friend and I, with Belmont Tower being the chosen location. 'Coffee' was actually herbal tea and Appletiser, so I honestly have no idea what the actual coffee was like, but my friend was glad they did have an assortment of teas, and seemed to enjoy hers. There wasn't a huge variety of traybakes / sweets, but neither of us were after any food, so we didn't mind too much.
The surroundings are lovely and very chilled, but the room was far too warm and almost sleep-inducing. It was extremely quiet, with only a few stragglers appearing after us, and the atmosphere was quite a lazy one. Zzzzz...
I am so happy that Belmont Tower has eventually been put to good use, and it certainly suits its new purpose as a coffee house. I feel a further reminiscence coming on... read more
