Our second visit to Brasserie 23 was Valentine's Day brunch. We arrived on time for our reservation…read moreand were promptly seated. Our server Sean was attentive and helpful. The restaurant is clean and attractive. I had the Croque Madame, which was literally perfect, and better than those I had in Paris. The bread was perfectly toasted, the cheese perfectly melted, the egg perfectly cooked (not runny, not overly hard), the ham perfectly salted. Others in my group enjoyed the Short Ribs Benedict, Grand Bebe, and Tortilla de Patatas. (I'll note our first visit was the morning after a Notre Dame home game, and their stores were depleted: we could have anything on the menu as long as it was chicken. :) The chicken dishes we had that visit were very well done as well - moist and juicy on the inside and lovely on the outside. Obviously we came back, just not after a home game!)

Onion Soup Gratinee - $11 - Needed salt and wasn't very flavorful. 2/5 stars. Chorizo and Shrimp - $22 - This was easily the best dish. Cooked well, good flavor, and a decent portion (probably because the price is so high). 4/5 stars. Chicken and Leek Puff Pastry - $26 - The pastry was lacking. It was soggy, weird taste to it, and just not pleasant. The filling was also mediocre. Don't get this. 0/5 stars. L'Entrecote de Paris (Steak Frites) - $45 - The steak was chewy, the fries were over salted. For $45, this was not enough steak, whatsoever. Not like it was a good cut either. It's a rip off. 0/5 stars. Pan Roasted Duck Breast - $36 - My mom and I both ordered this, and we could combine both of our dishes to make ONE duck breast. Portion was horribly small. Never have I ever been given HALF a duck breast. The sauce wasn't good either and it was broken. 2/5 stars cause the rest of it was cooked fine. The birthday dessert was a scoop of ice cream and some stale cinnamon pastry thing. This was wildly bad. If the flavors were on point, the prices would be understandable. But the flavors were bad, the prices are expensive, and we waited a very long time to get our food. We couldn't get into a different restaurant that night (it was a Saturday night on move in weekend), but this one we could get into, and now we know why. Don't go here.

I had time to kill in South Bend, Indiana, so I decided to walk around in the vicinity of my hotel…read moreand found a liquor store. I was like, OK, not sure why not. Blindly finding a liquor store in a small town while walking around aimlessly is always a blessing and good thing, I think. With that said, I arrived here around 6:30pm on a Sunday evening in late April 2024. The store was going to close around 8pm so I got in a good time to quickly look around and find something good. They had some good selections and a good range of brands to choose from. I wanted something quick and fun, while not having to look for a corkscrew to open a bottle. Last time I had to leave the bottle unopened in the hotel room since I couldn't open it. Not this time. I came across alcohol infused Arizona Ice Tea. The same Arizona Ice tea brand you find everywhere but now with alcohol. And so, I decided to make the purchase and got 2 cans. Not trying to go overboard with the alcohol but enough to celebrate what I have done recently in NE Indiana before leaving the area. Belmont Beverage is a clear winner since they have a lot of selection. The store isn't too large but large enough to have ample supply for anyone and everyone to purchase. Be prepared to show ID, but the guy at the counter asked me for my birth date verbally to verify my age during my time here. Standard process. For the most part though, my time here at most was 20 minutes. While I would have liked to sample other wines and beers here, I wanted something cold and easy enough to open without much effort. And of course, relatively inexpensive as well. The overall experience here at Belmont Beverage was quite cool and casual. I'm not sure that this place has air condition or not, but it is pretty spacious for a small corner store. They have a good amount of stuff for everybody to enjoy whatever they like to drink, chilled or chilled. The service here was pretty friendly and enjoyable. It was cool that, everything seemed reasonable pricewise. For the most part though, it was a nice place to visit. Had to grab some alcohol while on vacation. It was a block away from my hotel, so it was a good idea anyway. And so, if you are in the South Bend area And need alcohol for an event or just for personal consumption consider coming to the Belmont beverage liquor store. They almost always will have what you want and it's price fair for just about any liquor. You could possibly find. Anywhere. I didn't really mind the prices that much because I was on vacation, but I do love a good bargain anyway. And so, recommended if you love booze or just want to drink socially. And if you are addicted to this kind of stuff, drink responsibly. Please. Belmont beverage liquor store is located in South Bend Indiana. It's physically located at 254 N Dixie Way, South Bend. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. On this trip to the liquor store, I did the cash option because I just wanted to. As far as parking goes, I'm not sure, but you can find parking on the street where you can find it. Then, walk on over. For myself, though, I basically walked over from the nearby hotel. I was staying at, so it was very convenient for me. They had a very limited supply in the refrigerator in the store, but best bet is to get whatever you want and chill it for later. I'm not sure if it is lower price if it's not chilled versus chilled, but I assumed it may be the case. I must have spent 10 minutes walking around and five minutes making up my mind before grabbing something quick and easy from the refrigerator. They do offer a nice selection of wines and beers in South Bend. Thankful that they were near the hotel I was staying in so that I would have something nice during dinner on my last night in Indiana before going home. The ambiance at Belmont Beverage was nice and quiet. There was only a couple of people shopping besides me when I came in. Don't know if there was any real air conditioning or WiFi available. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Location, ambiance, service, and prices. Support local! A+
