The Heising! What can one say about it? The Heising is special, different, old style, a bit quirky,…read morelovely, welcoming. It is also Traditional as traditional gets; Delicious as delicious can be; Unique and perhaps a bit in its own league, or should one say: in its own world. A restaurant is not a good restaurant if the food is not outstanding and special, or different and interesting. At the Heising you get it all: honest, excellent French cuisine, delivered with class, but without pretense and full of honest quality. But what sets the Heising apart from the rest is the "Heisings" themselves. Herr und Frau Heising apparently have run this restaurant for more than 30 years. And it seems they have never swayed from their original formula. Even the interior speaks of the 3 decades: beautiful cupboards, made of massive wood, gorgeous tables with mosaic inlays, classic chairs that have hosted dignitaries and common folk like me. Just classic, a bit dated, and all charming. Frau Heising, after you ring the bell to the Restaurant, will greet you personally at the door and guide you to your table. Herr Heising will host you, supported by charming and very personal assistants, throughout the night. Considering they have been doing this for more than 30 years and considering that they are open every day of the week, that could mean that they have been doing this for more than 11'000 days of their lives. Unbelievable! Not only are they good at it, since they got so much practice; but they seem to be enjoying it, thoroughly, still. As I said: Unbelievable! We can only recommend a visit; it will be a visit that honors their talent and dedication, while allowing you to enjoy their ancient art of hosting and great French cooking.

A throwback to another century in decor as others have mentioned. Good (not great) classical…read moreFrench food, reasonably priced, as is the small wine list. What detracts from the place, and makes the restaurant a place to avoid is the service. Supervised by the elderly lady who owns the restaurant (Frau Heising?) the service while kinda professional, is stiff, antiseptic, bordering on unfriendly, and ultimately creating something of an uncomfortable feeling.

My coworkers and I were so excited to find Vietnamese French restaurant in Berlin that actually…read moretasted good. Since our expectations were really low from several Vietnamese restaurants all over Germany, it was nice to walk into Madame Ngo. Before coming to the restaurant, we noticed that it was on Michelin guide as a recommended restaurant to try. We also noticed that there weren't reservations available online until the next day so we figured that we'd roll the dice and see how long the wait is. As a group we did not want to wait more than two hours in line when we walked in, the wait was only 15 to 20 minutes for a party of four. Score!! For the table, we ordered a papaya salad and summer rolls. The papaya salad had an interesting shredded beef jerky and several slivers of Thai red peppers on top that was a nice touch. The summer rolls were deep fried, but not greasy, and you wrap them on a bed of lettuce and herbs, which gives it a refreshing lighter taste. My main entrée was the fatty brisket pho. This was the highlight of the show. They provide you with a side of two lemon slices and extra Thai chilies. All of us at the table were so happy to find so much flavor and all of our dishes from this tiny hole in the wall in Berlin. We can't wait to return to try something new next time.

Very nice brasserie over in freie westen. French cuisine prepared with heart. The bouchee a la rein…read morepuff pastry appetizer was phenomenal, melt in your mouth, explosion of richness. Filled with vegetables but bacon was definitely present. The sardine app was also nice, combined fried and marinated though I thought the pickled vegetables that came with it were too vinegary. If you like beef tartar you'll love their plat- delicious, sizable patty with a raw egg yoke on top, the way it should be. Comes with potatoes lyonnaise, roasted wedges with caramelized onions: addictive, crunchy and rich. The pork confit main was just a good - again quite rich, with a blood sausage, apple tart and plum mouse - an amazing sweet-savory combination. The lemon meringue ice cream is nice, creamy and smooth - I would have liked it a bit tangier but still good. The espresso was excellent as were the lemon madeleines- delicate and scrumptious. The wines are all French and if you don't know French wine it's hard to choose. The waitress recommended a rose that was half frizante, which was ok but wouldn't order it again. The service was good. Prices are more for a special occasion, though definitely worth it.
