I didn't really think I would be writing a review for a hospital, but last night my little sister…read moreneeded emergency surgery for a cyst on her ovaries and they took such good care of her. I'm used to having to wait like 14 hours to get hospital care but they actually transported her from the U of A specifically to get her in faster. We were done the surgery in about 2 hours, it was amazing. She felt as though she got great care while she was there. She's never even had blood taken let alone a surgery before, so thankfully the staff were very comforting and supportive throughout the process. I don't think anyone really ever wants to get an emergency phone call that their family member is going into surgery immediately, so thankfully it was relatively easy and they gave us access to her. It was all kind of a shock so the fact that they let like six of her family members wait it out in the waiting room in the dead of night was really comforting. It was especially comforting for my Mom that we could all be there because she is in Calgary and couldn't come right away. They told us that they weren't very busy either. So I would actually recommend people coming here during an emergency. I've waited full days at the U of A/Grey Nuns before, so this was definitely a new experience to be in and out so quickly. Thanks for taking care of my sister!

Went to get a req for bloodwork last week, never to get a call back stating my results were in as I…read morehad to call the clinic then was told I needed to come in as a walk in. I go in at 1:02 as they stated they start taking walk ins at 9am or 1pm. when I got there I was notified that it would be a half hour wait as they only had one doctor and I said that's fine and I asked to wait in my car since the wait room chairs were full, (there's only a few) and the admin said that was fine and would call upon my turn. after an hour wait I go back inside to see why its taking so long just for the other admin to notify me that there's still 14 people ahead of me and I asked how that's so when I got here at 1:02 and they only start taking walk ins at 1 and that the other employee had told me when I got here it was only a half hour wait. she proceeded to tell me that everyone else started registering at 12:30 and that it will still be a 2 hour wait. Dont come here if you're indigenous as they will just put you to the bottom of the line. The doctor I seen to get my req for bloodwork also seemed in a rush and didn't really want to hear about my concerns.

The first thing to know about this clinic is that Dr Richard Bochinski is one of the four or so…read morepodiatrists that practice here. I have heard from a few sources that he is the only podiatrist in the Edmonton area that can bill Alberta Health Care. The others charge for their services and you submit your bills to your health care insurance provider such as Blue Cross. He also has hospital privileges but only at rural hospitals east of the city. Basically once you agree to surgery you wait for one of the hospitals to call. I agreed to the surgery at the end of September and in January the hospital phoned me to say that they had an opening on February 28th. It was the Vermilion Hospital that phoned which is about 2 hours east of Edmonton. He also works out of hospitals in Wainwright, Vegreville, and possibly Camrose. This isn't as inconvenient as might at first appear. Dealing with some of our huge city hospitals is no fun and by the time you get to the Royal Alexander, find or pay for a place to park, find the right building, etc it might take almost as long as getting to the rural hospitals. I was very pleased with Vermilion. They treated me well and we could park right next to the door for free. My wife and I (you need someone to drive you home) decided to make a night of it and booked into the Pomeroy Inn rather than drive there early in the morning on the day of surgery. This also gave her a better place to wait for me than sitting in the hospital. In this review I'm not commenting on the skills of Dr Bochinski as I would either have to receive the same surgery from two different podiatrists or be one myself in order to be able to rate his medical skills. He fixed my foot but how can I know if someone else could do it better or worse. However I can say that he's a somewhat odd fellow. He's very busy and for my last appointment he didn't see me until at least an hour after my appointment. He wears his hair down to his shoulders and I find him somewhat difficult to communicate with. I still can't explain very well what he did during the surgery so I found an American YouTube video that provided the answers I sought. I just found it hard to get a straight answer from him. However that's all secondary to the end result. I'm now in my sixth week after surgery and can walk without crutches but with the aircast on. He said I'm doing well and after two weeks of walking with the big boot on my left foot I am to wear normal shoes. With everything going according to schedule I have to assume that he did a good job and that's more important that being a better communicator, although it would be nice to have both qualities in a podiatrist.

I have been here twice for Emergency Services. Both visits…read morehave been so well done; professional, friendly and informative. I have no complaints and if I ever have a choice of hospitals, there is no doubt where I would go. I also had a hip replacement performed in the acute care facility and same thing. Very professional, friendly, informative and always offering to assist in any way possible. Most recently l I was there on Saturday night July 19 with a shoulder separation. We even laughed on many occasions! They used the right pain medication. lol

On Monday Jun 23 my mom was taken to the Misericordia…read morehospital by ambulance, my mom was 94. She was taken in because she couldn't walk her hip was causing her issues no fracture but missing cartilage (that I read after i got home at 2:30 am.) My mom sat in the bed in the waiting room only saw by the nurse 2 times and a women who did an ekg then i was asked if my mom ever was in A Fib, ummm idk. But after the ask nothing was done. Finally at 3:20 ish she was put in a room. Told by an extremely nice nurse that my mom was 5th on the list. That was a hellish long wait because she was not seen by a dr until 7 pm, the dr said she was concerned about her heart and was going to have an xray of her hip and a heart trace done. We got the xray done at 7:30. We went back to the room, i talked to my mom while i folded her shirt. She went into cardiac arrest at that time, there was no saving my mom. She passed at 10:17 pm. I want to know if all patients are treated this way or just elderly? While i was thankful for the nursing staff when we finally got a room. I am not happy about the treatment she received. Would my mom still be here if she was seen sooner that day? Should the nurse who asked the question about the A Fib maybe should have done more or went and got a Dr? Are the elderly just not that concerning because they are old? What i saw happen to my mom that night i would not wish on anyone! At the end, the very helpful nurse told us we could stay with my mom and have as many ppl as we wanted so we did, but eventually we stepped into the hall because the room becomes quite warm, only to have some nurse walk up and ask us "are you done with ****" are we DONE WITH HER wth kind of question is that? My mom just passed. If that was the last hospital I could go to for treatment i would opt not to go and suffer with my issue.
