Sinclair Builders - New flooring & paint in the living room!

Sinclair Builders

Waited about 2 weeks and rain was coming...called for help. They came and put a plastic sheet up, but it ripped in the storm. Still no answer when someone would continue and finish the job. Finally, a crew did come out and finish. I do not climb up on my roof and "assumed" all was done properly. I continued to have leaks and water stains in my ceilings. Thinking it may be plumbing, I researched that and found no blatant causes. Called the company to come and inspect the roof, and learned the company had been sold soon after my job had been done. Since then I have tried several times to reach them and get no answer and no responses. I went out on my own to find someone who could go up and check the roof and they took photos of the poor workmanship. I was appalled! Nail heads were clearly visible, shingles not aligned correctly, sloppy "patch" goo was everywhere, damage to siding, and didn't seal around the dormers. I don't think that warrants a $17,500.00 bill! Perhaps a lawyer can advise me from here.

Uhmm....so.... My…read morehouse had been vacant since I had Sinclair come in and make all the repairs. The repairs that I paid almost $10K for. Just recently, my first tenant since the fiasco moved in to the place. And I am damn lucky that he's one of my best friends who has a knack for carpentry, because otherwise I'd be in a pretty awkward position. Apparently Sinclair's crew didn't do as great a job as I was led to believe. I personally haven't been to the house since the work was done by the way, so I haven't been able to see it for myself -- that's how I'm just now finding this out almost 2 years later. A couple examples: Apparently the new flooring they laid down was done well, except for the fact that they didn't cut holes in the boards for the heating duct vents!! WTF. My tenant couldn't figure out why heat wasn't coming into the living room when the furnace was on -- well bingo, the air couldn't get through. And the paint in the master bathroom was only half done. It looks like someone got started with it and just forgot to finish. There were a couple other things too. Whatever, the bottom line is that when you pay out the ass for a job to be done, you expect that job to actually BE done. The fact that the person paying for the work lives 4000 miles away shouldn't be an excuse to do things half-assed.

If I could give 10 stars, I would!…read more Building a home from scratch can be overwhelming--especially when you don't live in the area. My wife and I dreamed of a 3-bedroom cottage in Bar Harbor, ME, and after hiring an architect, we faced the daunting task of finding the right builder. Through a recommendation, we found Ricky Sprague, owner of Generations Custom Homes (GCH). That turned out to be the best decision we could have made. From day one, Ricky stood out. He patiently explained the entire process, respected our budget, and built in flexibility for changes along the way. What impressed me most was his organization. Ricky uses what I called his "magic spreadsheet"--a clear, detailed budget and progress tracker that he updated with each invoice. I could see exactly what was spent, what remained, and how far along we were. For someone investing life savings into a project, that transparency was priceless. And here's the kicker: Ricky's estimates were spot on. The only deviations were the ones we chose, and even those were offset by savings elsewhere. Now, about quality. GCH typically builds large luxury homes, and ours was modest by comparison--a 3-bedroom, 2-bath cottage. But you'd never know it from the craftsmanship. The trim work around doors and windows is flawless. The tile work is magazine-worthy. Friends have tried to spot imperfections, and none could be found. The attention to detail is astounding, and the result far exceeded our expectations. Equally important is how Ricky handles challenges. No construction project is perfect, and we had a minor issue with window alignment. Before I could even decide whether it was worth worrying about, Ricky had it fixed--on his dime. That told me everything I needed to know about his integrity. He takes ownership, stands by his work, and makes things right without hesitation. One example that really stood out: when the quartz countertops were installed, one side wasn't cut perfectly at 90 degrees. I honestly didn't notice the misalignment, but Ricky immediately spotted it. He arranged for the company to come back, remove the affected sections, recut them precisely, and reinstall them flawlessly. I was beyond impressed with Ricky's attention to detail, dedication to quality, and genuine care for his customers. It's clear why I want to give Ricky and GCH 10 stars! They take pride in their work, listen carefully to their clients, and ensure the finished product exceeds expectations. Whether it's a large project or a small detail, they handle everything with professionalism, skill, and heart. Communication was also seamless. Ricky was always accessible--whether by text, email, or phone--and responded quickly. I never felt out of the loop despite living hours away. At the end of the day, what you get with Ricky and Generations Custom Homes isn't just a house--it's peace of mind. He's extremely talented, honest, and hardworking, and his entire crew reflects those same values. My wife and I are beyond thrilled with our new home, and I can say with complete confidence: if you're looking for a builder in the MDI area, stop searching. Hire Ricky Sprague and GCH. You'll be in the best hands possible!

My Maine house on Mount Desert needed serious repairs to the three decks surrounding the house in…read moreorder to get it ready for the market. The previous contractor had done a very poor job, partly because I was out of state for medical reasons. I fired him and then had a difficult time finding a reliable contractor. Ricky Sprague, the owner of Generations Custom Homes, was so moved by my story and angry that an elderly widow had been taken advantage of, that he promised to take on the work, despite having a full workload and worked with me to keep costs as low as possible, given how large the job was. His crew arrived when promised and worked diligently and expertly to repair-- and in two cases to completely rebuild--the decks, so that the work could be mostly complete before I had to leave. Ricky kept me informed of issues that arose, particularly those that would increase the workload and the costs and offered solutions that were elegant and worked with my constrained budget. He and his crew completed the work in little over two months, cleaned up the site, and got it inspected. I am so deeply grateful not simply for the quality of the work but also the respect with which I was treated, and the way Ricky made sure the project came in on time and within budget. I cannot recommend the company highly enough. If possible, I would give them more than 5 stars!
