Betty Tigers

Betty Tigers

Betty Tigers (named after the owner's mother and her favourite animal) is a completely, utterly…read moreunique place. The polar opposite of high-concept, clinical hair salons, it is so much more than just a hairdresser's: art gallery, community centre, ideas shop words really are inadequate for describing how special this place is. Proprietor and chief stylist Elton is a one-off. He delights in the unusual, and the photoboard outside shows off some of the whackier hairstyles he's conjured up over the years (and he'll sometimes cut your hair for free if you're willing to let him use your head as his canvas). While cutting, styling and colouring, he'll often canvas your opinion on some of his other weird and wonderful ideas for art and film projects, community-building, or just generally putting the world to rights. He's often accompanied by a cast of supporting characters (the place is sometimes like a bit of a drop-in centre), and if you're lucky you'll catch them filming some of the clips which go up on their bettytigers Youtube channel (current favourite: their spoof episodes of University Challenge, featuring sweets, biscuits & other everyday objects as the contestants). Prices are usually ridiculously cheap (and sometimes Elton seems loathe to accept any money at all for his services). The only possible drawback is that cuts can take a very long time (especially if there's video-making to squeeze in), so make sure you set enough time aside. Every time I come out of Betty Tigers I have a spring in my step: something about the place's friendliness and Elton's wonderful attitude to life just buoys me up every time I visit. Now I couldn't imagine having my hair cut anywhere else.

I walked into Kuttin Kru earlier yesterday and I was actually shocked, they said "good morning…read moreKuttin Kru" and they continued to be nice... until an employee walked in from the back room and continued to call me a "SILLY WOMAN" then she continued to ask me to leave, I've never felt so insulted. Her name was "Kary" and she has blonde hair. If you know her personally please do Direct Message me. She also called me a racial slur, all because I'm a black woman, I'm usually full of joy but Kary took the piss out of me, I'm scared, like mortified. After I found out Kary had slept with my boyfriend, my husband said he knew her and he called her "sweet tits" do not go here refrain from going to kuttin Kru on rotherham. AFRAID, BYE

I am absolutely appalled and disgusted by the way I have been treated by Kuttin Kru this week…read more After having a cut and colour on Wednesday at Mexborough I went home in tears at the state of my hair. The ends were a spectrum of colours ranging from absolute white to pale blonde- totally uneven and ashen at the bottom when I had requested a simple blonde ombré as I have had many times before. The hairdresser was in a rush to close the shop and thought it was acceptable to shove a bottle of toner at me (which said on the bottle to use for 3 minutes) and told me to put it on for half an hour. This slightly improved the appearance but I was still really upset with it and embarrassed to go out in public. I requested a refund of the £55 I had paid as I wanted to go to my old hairdresser to have it fixed. I was refused a refund but was told I could go to the Rotherham branch for the manager to 'fix' it on Saturday. I was dubious about letting them loose on my hair again but went to the appointment in the hope that the manager would be a professional and sort out the issue. Instead, the manager was rude and unhelpful and proceeded to stand me in front of a room full of clients (mostly polite elderly ladies) and spin me around asking if anyone could see a problem with my 'beautiful' hairdo. She also said that I had been given a 'free' home treatment. I was so upset and embarrassed that I just left and will have to pay out again to have the problem remedied elsewhere. Totally rude and unprofessional I would never recommend this place to anybody!

I've used these once and never again, staff are incredibly lazy, rude and not sociable at all…read more If you go in and ask for a specific style, don't expect to get it. Before I went, I called them and asked if they do styles to my choosing and they was oh sure, if you see a picture of a style, feel free to bring it with you. So I saw something I liked, wasn't that difficult to do.... but to them? Full of excuses..... it was either my hair isn't the right texture, are it wouldn't suit my face shape which I actually found rude making judgements on someone's face shape! Excuse after excuse, in the end I didn't have anything done. If you can't be bothered, then say so! Only other times I've been here is waiting for a friend to have her hair cut and I noticed the staff do the bare minimum..... which is a quick wash, cut and a dry with a hair dryer, I've yet to see them colour anyone's hair and anything more advanced. When my friend was having her hair cut, the hair dresser kept having a natter to another staff member, didn't bother to hold any conversation with my friend at all like she was invisible. Avoid and go somewhere better.

I have visited Supercuts in Meadowhall on two occasions. The first was about 2-3 months ago…read more Although I was more than happy with my hair cut I was disappointed with the service, and again when I visited yesterday, the customer service was not good enough. On the first visit, I was spoken to in a sharp tone, often sounding impatient when I asked about prices, times, etc. (bearing in mind it was my first visit). I was told I could have a dry cut, taken across, and then told I had "some sort of gel or something" on my hair (I didn't) and then was expected to pay to have my hair washed and cut. I agreed to this and paid £17, which I think is a little more than I would like to pay, but I really wanted it cut. I was told it would be £30 to have it straightened too! Absolutely ridiculous. I flat out refused. As I said, I was happy with the cut, so after work yesterday I popped in to see if I could have the same wash and cut. The woman at the desk was sour-faced and impatient. Of course I undrstand that it was 8pm, the end of a long day, but customer service is part of a hairdresser's job. I didn't really want to sit and wait for 20-30 minutes but I agreed to, as I really need my hair cutting. However when I asked how much a wash and cut would be she said £24.95 and I cancelled my appointment. That is far too expensive in my opinion, especially for a company that is famous for being good but cheap. All in all, I am disapppointed with Supercuts after hearing good things. I will not be going there again and I will be warning my friends about the harrsh customer service and high prices.
