Occasionally I have gotten frustrated with the long drive and have tried going to someone else closer to home, and inevitably, I end up back in Mara's chair. Mara is truly an artist, and is realistic about explaining any limitations to what can be accomplished. I feel that I can always trust her completely to be honest if I'm asking her to do something that either won't look good or won't be good for my hair. I have very dark brown hair naturally, and Mara is able to make me a blonde without frying my hair the way other salons have when I've "cheated" on her, and I always thoroughly enjoy my time with her, because, bonus, she's hilarious! The decor of the salon chic and comfy. As far as the only other review here, I find the details very difficult to believe. Mara is a consummate professional, and the idea that she would physically threaten someone (p.s. she is under 5' tall and petite doesn't even cover it) seems completely unbelievable.

I was super fortunate to find Erika, who gave me a great cut and also went above and beyond to help me get to where I needed to be the first day I met her! I just visited her salon again this week and was reminded how talented Erika truly is. I had a bad cut (from the last one-hitter I tried) and brassy faded color I swear I will never repeat (because red sucks). She gave me a fantastic cut, exactly the direction I wanted to take my hair, and she fit me in at the last minute for color. This was the first time she had ever colored my hair, and she is a GENIUS at color. She knew EXACTLY what to do to fix my color (lift at the root, gloss at the ends) and EXACTLY what color to apply and how to apply it to get rid of the brass without creating a flat one-dimensional result. This is, hands-down, THE BEST color I've ever had, anywhere, and the most happy I've been with my hair in YEARS! I am also impressed that her prices are very reasonable and she doesn't try to sell you on anything that won't work well with your hair type. She also won't ratify anything she knows you won't ultimately be happy with - she's 100% a straight shooter and won't lead you wrong. The owner cut my hair but was more distracted by everything else going on in the shop that I could have been a mannequin sitting in her chair and gone unnoticed. COMPLETELY different experience with Up Your Hair. I was immediately greeted with a hello and friendly smile (first impressions are very important to me) by Caitlin. And even though Joseph was wrapping up his previous client, he came over to say hello and check things out (since I'm a new client) just before I got under the sink. Again, very important. Next, Joseph asked questions and actually LISTENED before taking the first snip. I have slightly curly thin hair cut in long layers about shoulder length, and have been "trying out" a side bang. It's been months since I've had it cut Joseph was terrific about explaining what he was doing and getting everything back in shape. He also gets the "wash and wear" lifestyle and didn't insist on blowing my curls out straight like so many stylists do. Why do you do that, stylists?!! It's going to last 30 seconds out in this humidity! The ease of booking an appointment online was just one more added bonus. I promise you that I'm not related to Joseph or Caitlin, I found them through a Google search (even though I live just over a mile away - never saw their storefront!). I was nervous choosing someone after only looking at photos and reviews on Yelp but after the owner, Melissa was kind enough to make time for me in her already booked schedule and seemed as excited as I was to give me a new look I knew I had made the right choice. I had chosen a photo I loved from her website which happened to be one of the more involved processes - Bayalage and takes quite a bit longer. She came in early and spent over half a day giving me the look I had dreamed of and even did an extra treatment on my hair to keep it from getting too dry since I already had color and went blonder. I love Aveda, and while you sometimes pay a little bit more at an Aveda salon, I think it is 100% worth it. I left feeling like a movie star with my silky blowout and natural highlights. I also love that Green House is a smaller salon, more intimate setting and in a beautiful location. You can even stroll to view the beach while you are processing. The Ocean spa is located inside the Playa Largo hotel. It's small but it offers all the range of services you would expect from a spa, from massages to facials, nails to scrubs. My massage therapist was Lara. She gives a great massage and takes care in making sure you are fully comfortable through the entire service. Given we are in a pandemic, you will need to wear your mask during all service (except facials) and they take your temp upon arrival. The lobby area is smallish as is the women's locker room. If you want privacy undressing, you will need to go into one of the restrooms as there is no door shutting off the women's locker room from the main hallway.There is a private steam room also in the locker area but no jacuzzi, or pool. You would have to use the main pool or jacuzzi if that is something that interests you. Reservations are required either on line or by phone. They also have a 24 hour cancellation policy so know before you go. What can be wrong with a spa? Nothing in my book!
