Rock Tops Surfaces - Park City - crack in kitchen island

Rock Tops Surfaces - Park City

(3 reviews)

I would never recommend this company! We just finished building a custom home and Rock Tops was by…read morefar the worst company we have ever worked with. We have 8 bathrooms and they literally messed up every single one of them. They templated the sinks in 7 bathrooms wrong even though we had every sink & faucet sitting in the bathrooms when they came to template. In the master bath, when they drilled holes for the faucet, it created bruising in the quartzite that were too big to be covered by the faucet. They proposed cutting that rectangle piece out and putting a new piece in knowing it would look like a Frankenstein fix. We politely declined that. Instead of us demanding that they replace every countertop in every bathroom, we were willing to accommodate them and find new sinks to fit the wrong holes they cut. Instead of them finding the correct sinks, they had our builder and designer go find them at an additional cost to us. THEN THEY TRIED TO MAKE US PAY FOR THE NEW SINKS!!! We saved them tens of thousands of dollars by not making them fix their mistake and they tried to charge us for sinks. One side has the backsplash matching up to the countertop, the other side is offset by a few inches. The owner, Blair Schmoekel said, "That's how it is supposed to be done." Their install crew let the sealant drip down the fronts of our brand new cabinets and onto our new hardwood floors. We purchased two slabs of quartzite for our island. Rock Tops cracked one during install and said it was normal for that to happen because it's natural stone. The crack is 30" long and they attempted to fix it by applying an epoxy onto a white quartzite which did nothing but highlight the crack. They installed a piece of quartzite completely unlevel in our kitchen. They acknowledged it was wrong initially, but when they realized we had already installed tile backsplash and they would have to fix that too, they blamed it on the cabinet company. This company does nothing but blame others. We tried for months to get them just to come look at all of the issues. They would never respond. They had their billing person send an email to let us know we were required to pay them in full before they would finish the job. I have worked for a custom home builder and a law office, and we have built homes before. We don't play that game. Next thing we knew, they filed a lien. After they realized they were getting nowhere with the lien, the owner Blair sent an email threatening to foreclose on our house. HaHa, our attorney fell over laughing when he heard that. Their hope is that they can threaten and scare customers into paying so the customers can close on their construction loans. Matt Earle, our sales person, who had ignored calls & texts for months, eventually called our builder to ask when we were planning on closing on our construction loan. When our builder informed him we didn't need to close on a loan, magically the owner wanted to talk. He offered to come to our house the next day so we could resolve the issues. This is all we had asked for from the beginning but Blair uses avoidance, finger pointing and fear tactics because that's what you do when you're in the wrong. When Blair came to our house and we started showing him the numerous issues, instead of apologizing or taking any responsibility, he said, "I'm not here for a lecture." Imagine the owner of a company behaving like that! He looked at everything and blamed it on everyone else. Said he would fix some things but not others, but only if we signed a settlement that we wouldn't share our experience. In the end we decided we didn't want this company to touch one more thing in our home. With their track record we feared they would leave it worse off and create more problems. We did not pay for the new sinks we had to purchase to fix their screw up. A month later, the lien was still on our house. We emailed Blair to let him know he had 48 hours to remove the false lien or we would pursue legal action and he responded like his typical egotistical self, saying he will no longer speak to us. That's the Blair we all know! We had to go and pay to get the false lien removed from our home. It's the only lien we've ever had. Their game is to have you sign a release before they will do any work. This release basically gives them an out if ANYTHING goes wrong. So please take our word for it, and the words of many others who have written similar reviews, and save yourself a lot of stress, disappointment & costly delays. DO NOT USE ROCK TOPS!

They did exactly what they said they would do. We have a few more bathrooms to do and a kitchen and Rock Tops will definitely be doing our counter tops. Enjoyed working with them!

When asked what their policy is as to whose responsibility it is to get the product out of the truck and where it needs to go their reply was "because of COVID we don't have a policy" WTF does COVID have to do with them getting concrete out of the drum and onto the ground? Ended up spending double the money and many many more man hours to finish the project due to Geneva delivering an absolutely horrible product. With many other concrete places to choose from we will never use Geneva again and will be sure to let everyone we know about the great customer service they can get anywhere besides Geneva.

And talk about size difference, I drive a mini cooper! It wasn't so bad as far as being cut off, but the fellow driving the truck obviously did not care that he had done so. I pulled up next to him after changing lanes to see if maybe he would like to wave and apologize. No such luck. He just ignored me. When the light turned green I just watched what he would do next, so I could see what his hurry was. I was not terribly upset mind you, but I was curious if there was some reason for his haste that I was unaware of. As we were approaching the other end of town, he was sitting on the ass of the car he was behind waiting for a gap to open up so he could change lanes again and gain the open lane. It turned out he was just weaving traffic to get out of town faster. At the point that I realized this, I became upset. I caught up to get his truck number so that I may report him. And I did just that. I told the dispatcher what I have told you here. I was not angry, I just wanted that fellow to learn a lesson he obviously had not before. You have numbers and email addresses all over your truck dummy! Slow down and act like you like your job!
