My experience with rehabilitation facilities, includes 4 in the Annapolis Md area that cared for my clients ( I work with elderly people some with dementia) and friends and families. In Illinois (decades ago) I worked in several facilities that cared for disabled people and I also had experience with two long-term care facilities when my grandfather was alive. Much has changed in this field, and with Oakbrook Care I see such attention to detail and dignity for their clients, residents and staff ...it's overwhelming at times. Two months after moms initial acceptance for subacute rehab ( she is now blessed to be part of the memory care - called Garden View - and lives full time at OBC ) and it still brings tears to my eyes when I tell people about the facility my mother now lives in. My brother and I have a sense of peace about Mom that we haven't had for years as Mom is well loved and protected at OBC. Mom likes it too ! Sheets changed daily, two lovely gardens, a quiet library, excellent safety protocols, much smaller staff that really gets to know the residents in memory care. In addition staff like Norman, Maggie and Keisha all three who almost walk on water.... Is it prefect? No, but Mom isn't perfect either and I love her! I suggest families continue to respect and thank the hardworking caring staff and still diligently advocate when issues need addressing. Honoring our parents can be difficult but it very worthwhile and offers special blessings. With Oakbrook Care our family hit the triple crown of Subacute rehab facilities, and long-term care skilled facilities with memory care once Mom was accepted in the memory care unit. Thank you God !

During my time there I was in need of physical therapy, dialysis and skilled nursing care. They responded quickly to personal and medical needs as they arrose. There are some staff members I would like to thank. First is Antntoinette she is the most caring, dedicated person I've met and I was so grateful to herald I will never be able to thank her enough. then there was Abbey,Ramos and aiden a great group of CNA's. Who also provided great care. Then there was my nurse practioner Lindsay. Besides being very knowledgeable in her job she was always in a great mood and willing to help anyone who needed her help. Then there was jayme. Mike, nina, Marisol and Diana. These amazing physical therapists helped me get strong enough to allow me to go home. I will always be endebted to them. Then to Anita, Tammy, Deanna and Pablo you guys are truly wonderful nurses and I thank you. Karen and Joy are great wound care nurse who mastered a challenging dressing. To Valerie, Carla and Sean your facility is smazing and keep up the great work. All these people I mentioned got me thru the toughest period of Mt life and I recommend this place to anyone in need of care for themselves or a family member

The care was not up to par. The overnight staff terrible. Finding your loved one drenched in urine the next morning after the next shift starts is not what I call care. If you are a diabetic they pay not attention to the food handed out. Biggest scare was finding out they were giving his diabetic medicine without checking his sugar...come to find this out after a week. What shocked me the most was the reason why.."most people don't keep track of it they just take the med"...well what about the ones that do. Great!!! apply the DUMB rule to everyone. They were lucky nothing happen to him. The PT could be much better then what was expected. OT was good. BE AWARE the office staff will ask you for the patients SS#. If you have already given them your insurance card and Medicare card they DO NOT NEED the SSN. We were harassed up until walking out the door about it never gave it. They are older, spent time in the hospital and are now here. They cannot get around themselves and we have tried to be there to help as much as possible, taking them into the general area for meals, getting them dressed. The rehab is going well but the other care has a lot to be desired. I've recently has surgery on my shoulder so I cannot help move or push a wheelchair. If I ask for help, no one has time. I stepped out for lunch hoping that that would prompt someone to take the opportunity to get them in a wheelchair and go into lunch. Nope- food tray to the room. This poor person will not be out of the bed today because no one has time and i physically can't do it. Do better... being under staffed is a country wide problem, but lack of care is not excusable. I'm hoping my friend gets home soon!

So we decided to give this place a try. My grandfather was admitted two weeks ago. He left the hospital and went straight here. He had some strength returning and just needed a bit more physical therapy for about a week to be on a good path. When dropping him off, we already felt that this place was not up to par. It was dingy, appeared to be in need of a good cleaning, and we noticed that there wasn't a remote or call button for my grandfather to press if he needed help with anything. Going against our gut, we left him there and figured we'd ask him how the night was and could always take him out the next day if it was as rough as we thought it might be. He fell during the night. He said he was lying on the floor waiting for help for about 30 minutes before anyone noticed. On top of that, we found out that in the 12 hours he was at this facility, no one gave him his medicines. He requires about 12 of them -- each more important than the next. Lastly, he has Leukemia. Yet was placed in a room with a roommate. It's common knowledge that immune systems are low with such a cancer. Yet, the roommate didn't wear a mask nor did any of the staff. If another facility is an option, I'd recommend trying that one instead as my grandfather is back in the hospital after one night at this incompetent facility and has lost all the gains he struggled for a month to achieve. He was so close to going home with his strength and abilities.
