They do nothing but support and coach you in a manner that is consistent with your goals. The group classes are tons of fun and they pair you with folks that are on a similar level which takes a ton of stress out of it. It definitely is a bit pricy but the price tag has been worth it so far. Every worker is amazing. They have tons of great energy and seem genuinely interested in your progress. They do nothing but support you through your dance journey!

During the 3…read moreclasses we attended I witnessed Ms Julie make condescending remarks to parents and children about the use of various security items (binkies, lovies) and crying when parents left just for a few examples. She also frequently used terms like "big girls don't need binkies", "big girls don't cry" and generally had a condescending and irritated attitude for anything that wasn't what she apparently considered "appropriate behavior". My daughter was having a hard time adjusting to her first class without me with her. Her comments to her about "stop crying" "you can't be loud" and the dirty looks surely did not help her comfort level. Today at the last class we will ever be attending at Angie's Ms Julie was so abrasive that both my daughter and I left the class early in tears after she told me that my daughter was "done" for the day and we were told to leave the class. I have been to many classes for my daughters of various activities and have NEVER experienced this type of abrasive behavior from any coach or teacher. I understand there is varying levels of "seriousness" in studios but this was definitely not the experience I was hoping for my daughters first dance class for her or I. Hopefully Ms Julie can do some reflection of her behavior and the expectations of two year olds. Perhaps she needs to move to older kids where she can find more satisfaction in her job.

I'd…read moremention what we experienced while attending this studio for over 16+ hours a week over the course of 3 years with 2 students. When daughter hurt her foot, she was advised to wear a boot from ortho until day of show to rest her foot, she was yelled at for moving "too slowing" when marking in tech even though the doctor instructed her to take it easy and walk slowly to rest before recital. Charging extra for adult costumes are normal bc it's more expensive from vendors but I was charged $5 for all of the costumes when my dancer had many child XLs. When questioned, office manager said it's not very much money. But my child was in over 13 dances so it adds up. Rule is rule right? Technique is lacking for older more advanced children. The classes are merged or canceled due to lower numbers. No real substitute teaching staff, when someone is out, the replacement is not well versed in the style of dance or not qualified to teach at that caliber. Maybe it's different now bc they have better teachers. All kinds of food are allowed in the studio rooms only for pre pro children. No regards to allergies as those are the same floor dancers roll on for contemporary, stretching or conditioning. My dancer rolled over cheese and crumbs weekly. One particular night, my dancer's friend had a medium allergic reaction to tree nut found on the floor. They did not have Benadryl on hand, so mom had to rush over to administer meds. This dancer also stayed home for a few days bc the allergic reaction was intense but no studio follow up after the incident. Balanchine based conservatory ballet school only has 1 1 hour technique class a week. Seems they have changed it to 1.5 hours for 2 days now. Rep and company class does not replace technique. In these classes, they are learning new choreo. Also pointe is normally offered right after technique, last year it was after lyrical, which is an elective. Only 1 1 hour pointe class a week for a 12 year old is not enough for a conservatory based dance school. No viewing the entire year at studio, handbook said once a quarter, but it's since been removed. Spent entire year having only seen my dancer at paid events like the fox theater, Busch stadium, and ambush where tickets are pricy. Dancer enjoyed community outreach, when we first joined the studio, company members danced in front of nursing homes and local parades. Didn't happen at all last year. Why can't you see your kids dance in the studio? On website, it says, "Instructors hail from prominent companies such as Joffrey Ballet, ABT, SAB, Alabama Ballet, Big Muddy Dance Co, and Ballet 314", but bio of teachers doesn't have anyone who has danced at Joffrey Ballet, ABT, SAB or Alabama Ballet.

The room is spacious with good mirror placement. Great lighting and atmosphere. Friendly staff. Benton Park studio is small, but very pretty. The mirrors are gorgeous but they are a bunch of actual house mirrors put together as opposed to a fitness studio full length mirror so it's a little more difficult to see your reflection. Great lighting though. Classes are casual but informative. Good attention paid to students of varying levels. I prefer a slightly more formal structure, but it's friendly. I hope they can open a larger studio closer to the city!

Excel is definitely not the best choice of dance studios. Many of their competitive students take…read moreballet at another studio because they are not offered proper technique classes. The teachers are very immature and do not know how to work with children. They do a lot of screaming and belittling. The only students who really excel at Excel are the owner's children and the children of the employees. The studio is also very dirty and run down. Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else!
