I intentionally planned my 2 days in Denmark around this area, with my hotel and the sites I wanted to visit within walking distance. The current station building opened in 1911, with a major overhaul in 1980 including elevators, escalators and a new station concourse. It has 7 platforms and 13 tracks, making it the largest train station in Denmark. With 100,000 travelers per day, it is the second busiest in the country. Getting to it from the airport required taking the M2 line, transferring at Kongens Nytorv to the either the M3 or M4 line to get here. The journey took a little over 30 minutes, and the trains were relatively crowded on both the inbound and outbound. The cost was (30,00 DKK - $4.69 USD converted) for the one way. There are no gates of any sort, and I didn't see any security doing ticket checks. Read on-line that fines could be substantial. Since the trains to the airport run so frequently, didn't have a chance to admire/partake of the station. On my next longer visit, will linger a bit more.

You can tell the suspicious people they are the ones that are just "hanging out" looking like they have no where to go, or just walking un circles looking at you and everyone else and are not self directed toward their transportation or just following other people until they are noticed and they break off. I had to use this confusing station to get back to my hotel a few times but until I was on the train my anxiety level was up. Once on the train there were numerous security agents. Wish they had a law in Copenhagen that you can not loiter at or near train stations, you must always be directing yourself toward your transportation would make it a safer place. What is it about train stations in Europe that attracts suspicious people? PS. If you are from the US with a US credit card the ticket machines only take debit and coins for tickets. US credit cards require a signature and ID check and machines reject them.

There is very good signage in both English and Danish. And because it's in "downtown" København, the trains run often. Nørreport is not just S-train, but also serves the metro and main lines. It is actually the busiest railway station in all of Denmark. Even more so than the Central station. From here, you can catch the M1 and M2 of the metro, most of the S trains and even regional trains to Zealand and Sweden. There is a ton of bicycle parking at street level and yes, bicycles are allowed on the trains here (just not during rush hours). Nørreport is between Vesterport and Østerport stations. It is in Fare zone 1. There are bus connections at street level, too.

I really should have just rented one of those dockless bikes, but that's neither here nor there. The station has decent signage and with the Google Maps app, I was able to work out how to get to where I needed to go. The return back to downtown and the Central station was easy enough, though this is a decently large station with 5 separate platforms and 8 tracks. It is handicapped accessible. There are ticketing kiosks and plenty of places to wave your contactless card in order to check-in and check-out. On the S-train lines, this station is between Nørreport and Nordhavn.

First let me say that between trains, commuter trains (S-tog), Metro and buses, Copenhagen has a system that would be the envy of any city in the US. My complaint is the lack of information about which train to take from which track. We -- and a bunch of other tourists trying to get Humlebæk to visit the Louisiana Museum of Art -- must have spent 30 minutes at Østerport trying to figure out which s-tog to take to Hellerup to get the "train-bus" to Humlebæk. Real people with real information were few and far between. We had the DOT app, but as for which train on which track, forget it. We looked for someone at Østerport Station who might be an employee of DOT, but to no avail. I finally called the help number, went through the option tree and got a real person who told me which train to catch. Now I contrast this with Stockholm where the train stations had young people wearing yellow vests directing people from train to subway to the correct transport on the correct track. Dear DOT, I'm sure that people who use the system daily know how to get around the system. But visitors like me were simply confounded.

I love metro, I do - but I try to avoid getting out of Christianshavn metro st if not necessary…read more It's rather stupid because it's located near to many interesting places when it comes to restaurants and cafes, and also the beautiful scenery of Christianshanvn canals. If you want to go to Papirøen / Copenhagen Street food, it's also the place to get off, not to mention Noma and other fancy restaurants that might be located nearby. It's also an important station for people who want to change metro line since this is where the line is split between the airport and the vestamager line. But the station is dirty and there are always weird people around. Sorry to be so judging, but I don't feel safe with bunch of alcoholics wasting their days away just few steps from the station entrance. I wouldn't mind if they just keep to their own, but sometimes they get inside the station and start to harass passengers or just make a scene out of stuff. There were couple of times where these people (with a smell that could put Carlsberg brewery to shame) came in the metro car and started blocking the doors and then they threw a fit when the metro wouldn't run (the cars are automatic, if you block the doors, they won't run) - or they started arguing loudly between themselves. Sorry, I just don't like being around drunk people when they're not my friends :/ and I don't feel safe. So if you feel the same like I do, avoid this station at any cost, change the line at other stations if you must, especially after dark.

Kongens Nytorv is one of Copenhagen's central landmarks; a beautiful and well-kept public square…read moreright next to the jewel of the city, the Nyhavn waterfront. The open space has a calm atmosphere, with a small garden in the middle and majestic historic buildings surrounding it, including the Royal Danish Theatre, Hotel D'Angleterre, and several high-end shops like Rolex. It's a convenient meeting point and a pleasant place to pause while exploring the city. There's even a small pub on the corner, perfect for an Aperol Spritz on a warm afternoon. I don't claim this the most beautiful place in the city, but it's nice to pass through.

The Metros run smarter, efficient and the subways are spotless! The majority of stations I visited all had elevator access and escalators. ( New York, are you there?) Here are some highlights: 1. Easy to use, 4 lines M1.M2.M3.M4 2. Inspectors/DSB on train asking you for your ticket to prevent fare invasion 3. Public restrooms clean and maintained. Some are free, some you pay which makes sense. Citizens who want a restroom, imo, contribute to keep it sparkling 4. Rules: Copenhagen is a bike city, thus, there are train rules; no bikes on train between 7am-9am. If you ride with bike there are bike cars and you buy a bike metro ticket ( New York, still there) 5. Ticket machines where you can buy different fare options and kiosks to check in 6. Korbenhaven H or aka Central station; so commuter friendly! All I can say is tak ( thank you) to Copenhagen for making my trip so easy to get around!

The British Tube, NYC subways and BART/MUNI have a lot to aspire to when it comes to Metro systems. The Danes know how to get it done right. The Metro here runs on time, and no drivers for the trains, which is pretty neat. Every station has digitized schedules so you know when the trains are running. And they are on time. You can either buy one trip tickets or look at options for 12 hours or longer. And you can also get a City Pass which gives you access to the metro and buses up to 120 hours. Just check on the DSB website for your needs and the system is self explanatory. What I love about Denmark is that while everyone usually speaks Danish, there is always an English option. Every single website I went to related to my Denmark travels had an English option. That's pretty amazing. The one important thing to note is that while you can't really scan your passes to get into the metro, don't be fooled to think that DSB authorities are not checking fares. I traveled to the airport a few times and a few times, attendants were strictly checking fare. In fact, my train ride for the last time to CPH airport, my fare was checked twice. I read some other reviews written here and if you don't have proper fare, you will get a fine for hundreds in DKKs, so totally not worth taking a risk at all. The trains are very clean, well run, stations also clean and signage/schedule are all easily understandable. This is the gold standard when it comes to Metro systems.

There are residential and retail nearby, so this will be helpful. The station is handicapped accessible with elevators from the platform level to the street level. The station is pretty much open to the elements though. The usual scanners for checking in and checking out with your metro pass are at both ends of the platform. There is a large bicycle parking station at the surface level. Carlsberg station is between Valby (toward Frederikssund) and Dybbølsbro.

It is very safe, convenient and most of all, clean like the other stations. It is a good station.

The last of the inner city stations (meaning all but one of the S-trains stop here, this goes for…read moreany station between Svanemøllen in the north to Dybbølsbro in the south), the platform area has a sort of old school feel to them, you can sort of sense the original architecture of the 1930s when the S-trains were first constructed. The station building itself is fairly nondescript and somewhat worn down. Loads of bicycle parking outside, which is a plus for commuters, what is less great is that the parking area is apparently a smorgasbord for bike thieves, know a lot of people who have lost bikes or parts of bikes from here. There's quite a cute little coffee stand outside, so you're not forced to get the 7Eleven coffee inside if you want a coffee for your train ride. Navigation is pretty easy, there's one platform for southbound trains (going towards Copenhagen and beyond) and one for northbound trains. Pick the right one and you can't go wrong, especially if going to Nørreport or København H, as all southbound trains stop at these two stations. Very easy to explain to any you out-of-town visitors.
