Belk has pretty things in their store but they could tidy up a bit and keep the shelves neater. I'm sure it's easier said than done but I like it when a store has things orderly. Worst Customer Service of any Belk I've ever been to. Five people working in the men's department yet no one can check you out. They sent me to the cosmetic counter only to have them be snarky about my purchase when I asked for a balance on my coupons and REWARDS and without my consent, they charged it to my belt card when I was clearly holding my visa. Very nice selection of jewelry. Staff very helpful and nice. I went cause I found a dress online and they didn't have it in stock but instead I was able to order it which was awesome. This Belk store in Shallotte is the closest department store to Holden Beach, and while on the small side, it's routinely packed to the gills with all kinds of merchandise. If you have the patience and the fortitude to maneuver the crowded aisles, it is highly likely you'll find something worth purchasing. I routinely scan the sale flyers delivered in our local paper, and if something I need is featured, I'll make a special trip to Belk. Most recently, there was a half price sale on mattress pads, and I needed a new king-sized one for a guest bedroom. Getting a high quality king mattress pad for under $40 is a great deal in my world. Customer service is generally good, although it helps to be prepared for a bit of a wait at the register, especially if there's a glitch in their computer system. (It happens more often than you'd think.) read more

We always stop at this particular Belk's store because, in spite of being a small size, they always have a good variety of Big Man items for me and Petite clothing for my wife. I don't think we have ever visited this location without buying something. My only complaint is that because they have so much stock, it is hard for a 'fully' grown person like me to squeeze between some of the racks of clothing, but I manage. read more

I live nearby and avoid this store because they are always, always understaffed! Today, the biggest shopping day of the year and they have staff walking around but only two registers open! I was on vacation and needed mascara so I took a trip to Belk. I waited 10 minutes as the lady before me agonized over what product she should buy. The Clinique consultant was most helpful and suggested items for her. Finally she was ready to check out. The consultant addressed me, on her way to the register to check out the first woman, by saying "what can I get for you." I said I would need a moment of her time. She told me to wait. When she returned she "quickly" got what I asked for, rang it up, and placed it in front of me. Before I could even say thank you she was asking the next person (only person in line) how she could assist her. I wonder if she did not feel I deserved the same attention as the younger women needing her assistance? I go to Ocean Isle Beach every year but I will not include Belk in my yearly visit. read more

Yes, this store is packed with clothes but, wouldn't you rather have it packed than not have any options at all?! I'm used to having to wait for assistance in any belk store so there's no reason to start complaining now about a particular store now. It's not in a mall so no they're not going to always staff like a mall would. Overall we love going to this store compared to other Belk stores! read more

My husband and I went to Belk in Shallotte to purchase a sport coat and a pair of jeans for him. While browsing I found some thing for myself. It was thr Sunday after "Black Friday " and things were very much in disarray. In addition to that the only help we got was at the cosmetic counter. The lady was very helpful and nice. No one was anywhere around the men's clothing. The men's jeans were all mixed by brand, size etc. my husband needed a new long sleeve shirt. We finally saw two clerks eating Reece's pieces at the counter in men's sports. My husband asked one of them if she had a tape measure to measure his neck. She said yes then proceeded to put her hands around his neck. She whispered to me he was two lbs of "bull shot". I told my husband we could wait and go somewhere else. Aisles are too packed. This Belk is the best Belk around. I prefer Shallotte Belk over Belk in Raleigh. It is clean and organized. The layout is very appealing.
