My favourite chippy in the world. As usual I had the haddock, chips and mushy peas, as usual it was…read moresuperb. You even get a scallop on top which makes it for me. The seating is unique, you can either be conventional and eat in the restaurant or eat in the bus. Yes this must be only place I've ever been to where you can eat in a bus. Family owned and it shows, it really is a gem. Only downside is parking can get a little tight but nothing can detract from this wonderful place.

Near me there are no 'proper' chippies,we have lots of Chinese chippies (Who lets face it do…read moreawesome Chinese food, but the ones near me have never mastered the art of batter for fish). But no traditional English chippies, and by that I mean ones that cook things like they do by the sea, crispy bubbly batter and chips that taste like chips. Now,as much as I like fish and chips i'm not one for driving an hour to Blackpool for some (Not helped by the fact that I detest Blackpool these days). But i'd been told about Grandma Pollards a few years ago and as myself and Mrs Z were at a loose end the other day we thought we'd give it a try. First off the exterior, the front just looks like any other chippy/chippy restaurant, but round the back it is a different story. Not only can you eat your food in a parked up bus, they also have a picnic area right by the canal (see pics) and a lovely spot it is too! Being boring we decided to eat inside the plaice (see what I did there?) and we both opted for the same food namely jumbo haddock, chips and mushy peas,or to give it's real name, food of the mythical sky beings.... Large haddock said the menu, and bloody large it was too,it was hanging over the side of the plate large. It was also really, really lovely, the batter was crispy and bubbly in equal measure and the fish inside was soft, flaky and tasty. The chips did indeed taste of chips and the mushy peas were also of the top notch variety. Grandma pollard also sells home made pies (none of that Hollands mush) and their own cakes, and even though we were incredibly stuffed from our fish feast we decided to get a couple of pies and a brick sized vanilla slice to take home with us,all of which were very nice, especially the vanilla slab!! I am now very happy because i've found a proper chippy that is not too far away from home, and at the end of the day that's what's important in life,a proper chippy!!

If you're looking for first class fish and chips in Burnley then look no further than Frydays. The…read moreowner, Nick, has put fresh, tasty fish and chips back on my menu after I struggled to find a truly outstanding chippy in Burnley. All the fish is freshly battered and fried whilst you wait so, although you might have to wait a little longer than in other chippies, the end product is crisp, delicious and cooked to perfection. You can eat in and there are regular offers for students and OAPs. I prefer to take out and enjoy my fish and chips with lashings and lashings of Heinz tomato ketchup. The only downside perhaps is that it isn't open on Sundays, nor is it open for fish and chips on the way home after a night on the town but you can't have everything I suppose!

Myself and my family have been going to Fryday's since it first opened. We go nearly every week,…read morethe food is truly outstanding. We do eat out a lot, but the quality/price at Fryday's is outstanding. The fish is so fresh and done for you as you wait, the chips are really excellent too. We thought the Banny's, MaPollards or the Skipton chippies were good, but this is in a top league of its own. Nick and his wife are great hosts, they chat to you and accommodate you well, they are helped by Nichola, who always makes us chuckle. We took our Mum there for here birthday tea (she wanted too !) it was great, they let us bring our home made cake, and balloons etc. I really do believe that this is the best quality and friendliest chippy in Burnley, actually in our experience simply the best. Go there and you will know what I mean. Darren September 2011.
