I own a home built in 1943, which still had the original 60-amp service. The circuit breaker panel had been updated sometime in the 1960s with Pushmatic breakers which are now obsolete and no longer available. It was obvious that the service was not adequate, as the lights would flicker when running the washer, or when my wife ran her hair dryer. Of even more concern, the wiring between the connection point for the NYSEG drop on my roof and the meter box was badly deteriorated, with insulation breaking off. I have a very old house that still had the old knob and tube wiring , a over loaded electrical box . My dryer in the back room, my air conditioner in the living room , and the microwave in the kitchen was all on the same breaker so I could only run on of those at a time or the breaker would trow off. I also had damage inside the walls to the point I could not use my dishwasher or ceiling fan anymore because it would throw Sparks. I had a desater and fire waiting to happen . My home was built in 1880 and the electrical system was a mess when I bought it.
