A few friends of mine told me to try acupuncture for my lower back pain, honestly I was hesitant due to my fear of needles. When my back pain flared up last week, I decided to give it a shot. I did some research and found Dr. Wang located in Cordova not far from where I'm staying. I called up his clinic and he answered personally. He was very kind over the phone and listened patiently as I told him what I was struggling with. Since my pain was so bad, we set an appointment for that day and I limped in for treatment, a little tentative at first. Dr. Wang has a big wonderful smile and warm chinese face, just being around him feels like healing. His english is a little funny in places, but it makes him that much more charming. We chatted a bit about acupuncture, my fears, and what to expect. I told him some details about what I was struggling with and my general health as he jotted some notes. Before we began he reassured me that if done right (as I've read online), the needles shouldn't hurt at all. As I laid down on the clean table, Dr. Wang carefully prepared each spot on my back, legs, feet and hands he would be pinning with an alcohol swab, I didn't even realize he had put the first needle in when he asked if I felt any pain. I didn't that time nor at any point during the treatment. At most I felt a little tapping, tingling, buzzing, and warm sensations as I lay on my stomach dozing on and off. I wish I could say that my back pain was miraculously cured with one treatment, but it wasn't (I knew not to expect that). Instead I felt almost as though a pressure release valve that was storing up all the pain in my back had been slowly opened and the pain was hissing out. After about an hour Dr. Wang pulled all of the needles out of my back and gave me a gentle send off with some recommendations about diet and stretching that would help me clear up my pain moving forward. I asked if we could have another session next week, and we found a time that worked. At the end of the experience I was surprised to find that I was no longer limping or protecting my back while I walked. Since the treatment, I've been far more conscious of my posture and I feel like there is hope that my pain might soon be completely eliminated. Dr Wang is very well trained having spent 5 years in training in Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing China. I went to see him to treat neuropathy in my fingers due to cancer chemo-therapy side effects. My Oncologist told me acupuncture has been proven by American studies to be effective in treating this. Dr, Wang did an extensive interview to uncover all the ailments that are bothering me. He is treating me now for everything, starting with the neuropathy down to my runny nose.
