Unfortunately where I was sat the beepity beepity bong of an attention seeking quiz machine somewhat disrupted any spell. Evans Evans Warrior from a barrel behind the bar was good and Theakston dark made for a competent sidekick (The supervillians being The Speckled Hen and The Abbot). Looks like they normally have a couple of beers served from the barrel, but possibly by Sunday a weekends heavy drinking had weakened them.

I've only ever seen one on at a time - when it runs out, another is tapped - but it's always worth trying a pint (it's quite reasonably priced, about £2.50 a pint right now). The staff are lovely, the pub quiz on a monday night is always packed with a mix of older locals and younger students (getting along fine!), and there's often live music courtesy of local bands and singer/songwriters.

Have live music there ocassionally although most of the time you have soft jazz and easy listening music piped through the speakers. Staff on the whole are friendly & helpful although the service can be a little slow. On the whole a nice place to chill ou away from the bustle of the city centre.

Brynymor Road is in the middle of a very popular area for student accommodation, but the beer in the Westbourne is significantly more expensive than in the 'Brynymor' just up the road, which obviously has an effect on the type of crowd it attracts. Having said that, it is lot more student friendly than it used to be. You will see a lot of students in there at the start and end of term, when they can get their parents to pay for the more expensive beer. They do decent food, and have got on board with some of the newer ideas hitting pubs, wireless internet, coffee and suchlike. There are quite a few flat screens, but local rugby will usually take preference over football. When there's no sport on, they play Sultans of Swing and Build me up Buttercup on loop. As with most pubs frequented by students in Swansea the drinks are cheap and served by young trendy surfy/skater types. The pub plays host to a variety of live music nights and the introduction of the smoking ban this year fuelled the addition of a covered outdoor area which used to be just picnic benches but is now quite a lovely decked fairy-lit alcove. The Tav' also boasts a bit of history as it is reported to be one of the drinking dens of Wales' most famous poet and alcoholic, Dylan Thomas. This fact is marked by the Dylan Thomas Snug within the pub.

Reasons for that: good atmosphere, decent food for fair prices and does allow dogs (in the beer garden). This place got recommended by our local neighbours and the menu looked interesting (tapas-style). So we ordered (both times) the 5-Tapas plate for 22.95£, plus some extra sides. The dishes we chose: Mint Lamb Cutlets: Best part of the meal, tender and full of flavour - fantastic Celtic Pride Meatballs: average meatballs - ok Mussels: good and fresh Shrimp: in tomato sauce - soso Chorizo: 2nd best on the menu - very good Onion Rings: crispy, hot - good choice Sweet Potatoe Fries: nice - crispy Chicken Wings: not great - bad sauce Calamari Rings: nice, tender (not chewy) and fresh Garlic Bread: good Of course a couple of pints to go with....nice and cold. Some items weren't great, but some really really good (I repeat: Lamb and Chorizo). Service and staff was fantastic. The atmosphere was relaxed - plenty of people in there, friendly bar staff, and a 'friendly' stuffed bear in the entrance nearest the Marina. Plenty of photos of old Swansea adorn the walls. There's quite a lot of seating, as the building seems to go back a long way. If it looks full from outside, it's worth looking in anyway as there might still be space. From my limited experience of Swansea's pubs, this one is one of the best I've been to so far.

You can eat anywhere but there is a special dining area on the right as you go in, a bit similar to the Wetherspoon at Bridgend. The Curry Club on Thursdays is recommended - prices are much lower than other days of the week and there is a wonderful variety of meals to choose from at all times - great for vegetarians too; there are even choices for vegans (I recommend the chick pea curry with extra poppadoms instead of naan bread). Lovely inexpensive desserts and good coffee as well! We were served by Ben yesterday, who was really nice - but I also spoke to two other members of staff who brought the food and they were friendly and very helpful. We'll definitely eat there again the next time we're in Swansea.

It's quite big, the food is what you'd expect and it has the usual bunch of drinks on sale. One thing I do like is the selection of ale they have, but that's pretty normal to most Wetherspoons. The only way I can really review this place is in respect to other Wetherspoons, this is a charming, nicely laid out pub with good service, good food (For a Wetherspoons) and a nice atmosphere.

There was a band on and most of the time pub bands are pretty bad but this one was rather good. The best thing about this pub is its one of the few places in swansea where there is a decent pool table. When I have a few drinks with my friends, I like to have a game of pool and most of the time the table hasnt got a long queue of people to go on it. Recommended if you like decent music and a game of pool.
