Lots of seating (of all kinds) and wooden tables in this large pub so it's usually easy to find somewhere to sit and have lunch. It's such a great and varied menu for everyone (including vegetarians - even a choice for vegans!) and incredibly good value, especially on one of the 'special' days. Our favourite is Thursdays when it's the 'Curry Club'. You can have two starters, two main courses and two drinks (including a pint of beer and glass of wine) for £10! We used to seek out specialist vegetarian restaurants and cafes when visiting different towns but now we look for a branch of Wetherspoon instead. We can be sure of a great choice and only spend about a third of the price. Big fans!

They are very clean, service orientated and do good food & drink promotions. Like all the the other pubs in the chain, the name is derived from local history and decorating the interior walls are old photos showing the High Street & Station Road going back to the beginning of last century. Plus a brief history of the namesake of the pub name. Like I said JD Wetherspoons have different promotions on at differing times. This usually involves wine festivals and meal deals. On my particular visit the Real Ale Festival (£1.50/£1.60 on selected local real ales) was ongoing plus it was their Thursday curry night (Curry & drink for £4.99 which is a £1 cheaper than the Smith & Jones chain of pubs who also have curry nights on Thursday.) The pubs was quite spacious incl. a room for private parties upstairs. he bar was also tastefully furnished too. Would recommend it for a good meal & drink, plus it is central to Port Talbot in terms of location.

Brynymor Road is in the middle of a very popular area for student accommodation, but the beer in the Westbourne is significantly more expensive than in the 'Brynymor' just up the road, which obviously has an effect on the type of crowd it attracts. Having said that, it is lot more student friendly than it used to be. You will see a lot of students in there at the start and end of term, when they can get their parents to pay for the more expensive beer. They do decent food, and have got on board with some of the newer ideas hitting pubs, wireless internet, coffee and suchlike. There are quite a few flat screens, but local rugby will usually take preference over football. When there's no sport on, they play Sultans of Swing and Build me up Buttercup on loop. I exaggerate, but only slightly.

As with most pubs frequented by students in Swansea the drinks are cheap and served by young trendy surfy/skater types. The pub plays host to a variety of live music nights and the introduction of the smoking ban this year fuelled the addition of a covered outdoor area which used to be just picnic benches but is now quite a lovely decked fairy-lit alcove. The Tav' also boasts a bit of history as it is reported to be one of the drinking dens of Wales' most famous poet and alcoholic, Dylan Thomas. This fact is marked by the Dylan Thomas Snug within the pub.

I mostly come here in the day to watch the football (On huge screens, they also have 3D aswell now) and eat a meal, though I sometimes come in on a night out and I can't honestly say it's ever caused me any grief. The walkabout member card system is amazing - everything becomes 20% (ish) cheaper and it pays for itself after a few visits. It's really large and spacious which I like and dedicates itself hugely to broadcasting sports on giant screens as well as multiple smaller TVs. Customer Service: This is probably where Walkabout gets 1 star off. The customer service really isn't the best. Admittedly, it's not like they're rude, but a tad bit unprofessional. A guy who served me was clearly tired, most likely hungover, and not friendly or enthusiastic at all. If you order food, employees are a bit overeager to clear your plates for some strange reason. I had a huge bowl of chips still untouched and was asked if I wanted it cleared... wtf? Food: Reaaaally realllly good. It may be just a sports bar rather than a proper restaurant, but don't underestimate the food. I had Aussie-Style Steak Pie (comes with mashed potatoes, mushy peas, gravy) and it was one of the best meat pies I've ever had. I even started craving another one a few hours after finishing it. The bowl of chips was really great as well - covered with cheese and served with a side of dipping sauce of your choice. I chose Garlic Mayonnaise and it went fantastic and delicious with the chips! (Also great with the mashed potatoes in the Aussie-Style Steak Pie meal). --- Overall, I'm a fan of Walkabout and would come here again. It's definitely a top-rate sports bar that has televisions everywhere, decently priced drinks and food, and deliciousss meat pies!

The steaks were cooked perfectly and the servers were attentive, prompt and polite. I also recommend the bread and olive appetizer. The bread had the most delicate and tender yet dense crumb and the butter was the perfect salty compliment. Cons/Suggestions: None, currently.
