    About to start this "Beericana"
    Lilly W.

It was my first time going to Beericana and like I heard from lots of people, Beericana was an amazing festival! It took a while to get there because the festival was in Holly Spring, but Sugg Farm Park was HUGE. We did not have to wait to park & there were plenty of parking spaces! Also, there were many people at the gate, so there was no line! We just had to show our ID and got our little cute sample cups, maps and green band for entrance. As soon as we got in, we could see SO many local brewing companies. I had no idea we had that many brewing companies around here! Those brewing companies were lined up all the way through whole Sugg Farm Park and were very organized. Also, there were lots of food trucks, desserts, and cool music. They had Jenga and Corn holes everywhere and I saw many people playing those outdoor games. A lot of people were very good at playing corn holes and they looked so cool: I mean, they could throw! I was too embarrassed to participate because I suck at throwing those corn bags, but next year, I probably will! Many places had long lines, but it really did not take long. Their process was pretty quick, so if you want to try them out, don't hesitate! It's really not that bad, and it's worth waiting! Also, for those who want to try a lot of beer, but are worried about getting buzzed, there are tons of FREE water bottles everywhere! You can have those whenever you want, Beericana got you! I had many beer samples, but my favorites were watermelon taste beer, Hell yes mam from Raleigh Brewing Company, pumpkin taste beer and Cherry bomic! I was so sad that I could not get to taste Jalapeno beer! Seemed like everyone loved that beer!! Overall, it was an AWESOME event! It was my first time going to beer festival, and Beericana nailed it! For those who want to go to Beericana next year, here are some tips: - Try Jalapeno beer! Everyone LOVED that beer! - Make your own Pretzel necklace before you go there!! I thought that those pretzel necklaces were some kind of giveaway and it turned out people brought their own. You should look up online and make your own before you go to any kind of beer festival. People are SO smart and I loved their customized pretzel necklace! They were so cool! Bring them for sure! There are many food trucks and desserts but well, if you could save some money and bring your own customize pretzel necklace to show off, why not? Go for it! - Waiting line isn't that bad. It seems like it would take 10 years, but it would only take about 3-5 min! Try as many as you can! -Bring your own beach chairs!! The place was huge and so many people brought their own chairs. You can sit on the grass, but if you want to enjoy music, food and beer, bring your chair and sit back! -Wear comfy shoes! The Sugg Farm Park is whole grass area, so wear comfy flip flop or something like that! I had a lot of fun and I also checked-in at Yelp tent! They had many mystery presents and I got doggie bandana! Teddy loves his bandana and it shows Yelp's awesomeness! I look forward to going to beericana next year!

Despite what looked like a long line, we made it in to the event quickly and were overwhelmed with the number of choices for free samples! We hit the White Street Brewing truck first and were pleasantly surprised to find they were pouring full 12-oz beers. I tried the kolsch and found it very refreshing on this hot summer day! After grabbing our beers, we started walking around to try some of the food. The options were plentiful and we were too full to even try half of the tents, but I really appreciated the chance to try out some new local (mostly Cary) spots. I will say I was surprised by the number of chains at the event, but it's hard to complain about Bojangle's sweet tea or a philly cheesesteak from Jersey Mike's. Some of our other stand-out favorites were the barbeque chicken legs from Larry's Southern Kitchen, the chicken salad sandwich and the reuben from Dorry's Downtown Deli, Lumpy's ice-cream, the white chocolate baguette from La Farm Bakery and the beef and potato empanadas from Latin Quarters. I do wish I had been able to try the crepes from Coffee and Crepes before they ran out, but I look forward to going there with the coupon they give me for a free dessert crepe! All-in-all this was a great event and I believe it to be well-worth the cost of the $15 admission!

We started with the cinnamon bun, which was housemade brioche with a vanilla sugar glaze, and honestly it could have been the whole meal. It was that good. We ordered around the table, egg scramble bowl, huevos rancheros, chicken burrito. All of it was solid. The huevos rancheros especially. Salsa roja, chorizo, queso fresco, avocado. Fresh-squeezed OJ and cava in the mimosas didn't hurt either. The food was great. Tori made it memorable. Our server, Victoria (prefers Tori) was just one of those people. She knew when to come by and when to leave us alone, which sounds simple but most people can't do it. Not performative warmth, just actual warmth. She was on top of everything without making us feel managed. We talked about her afterwards. Tori made the occasion. Thank you Tazza Kitchen Stone Creek Village at 600 Ledgestone Way, Cary NC!

And while we were waiting for 5 minutes for our table we were given a slice of pizza to taste, which was an amazing gesture and the pizza was so good, think crust, cheesy but light. We ordered beer and a mocktail for drinks and I loved my mocktail, it was refreshing. For appetisers we ordered their cast iron goat cheese that came with their buttery sour dough bread chunks, the dip was a little too sour for my taste but it was compensated by the flavour full goat cheese. We also ordered their kale and chillies salad for the table and loved it. Highly recommended. For our main course we ordered their Harrisa bowl with crab cake and the Brick oven salmon. The crab cake was on of the best I have ever had. Next time I am definitely ordering their full crab cake order with fries. Every item in the bowl was complementing each other perfectly. The lightly sauted vegetable with a dash of honey tasted great with the tangy white taziki and cucumber sauce and the pearl couscous. I am definitely trying the other bowls next time I am there. The salmon was perfectly cooked and tender. The fried rice, sauted vegetables and the whipped goat cheese tasted so good together. For dessert we ordered their flourless chocolate cake and it was a little dry but very guey and chewy, loved the taste though! Our server was extremely sweet and so considerate of our choices and gave us substitutes and also packed some extra bread togo. So happy and content with food service and the overall ambiance of this restaurant. It gives a fancy vibe but is also very reasonable. Definitely going there again soon!!

Wish we both ordered this one so we didn't have to share. - Beef Tenderloin (4 stars): We enjoyed it, but have definitely had better for less money. - Seared Chicken Breast (3 stars): It was a rectangular piece of meat, which was unexpected. I would compare it to chicken at a wedding, but I've had better at a wedding. - NC Cheese Trio (4 stars): Large portion of cheeses with a nice variety. I wish the crackers had more variety (not all seedy). - Chocolate Soufflé (5 stars): This is their signature item and a must get! But this is just the kind of race that gets better (and more remarkable) with age! What is Doughman? Think Ironman -- but a lot, well, doughier. For those not in the know (and really you should check out that M v F episode -- hilarious!), Doughman combines competitive eating with a 4-person team quadrathlon and crazy costumes. The charities this year were SEEDS and See-Saw Studios -- both Durham youth programs. And the food stops on the race were all Durham restaurateurs with a local focus. I volunteered with some fabulous yelper helpers: Mari J, Helena K and her hubby, Al. We were stationed at the first stop in the race, Hog Heaven. Bikers cycled in and proceeded to wolf down (or try to) a chicken leg, cup of pulled pork and three hushpuppies. Sound outrageous? It is. The next stop involved an inner tube and paddling across a pool. Some of the best costumes were the Stay Buft team (cute Pillsbury hats and shirts!), Inconceivable! (a Princess Bride cast... how the hell they raced in pirate boots and capes is unbeknownst to me), and Breakfast of Champions (Biscuit King and Wonder Bread Woman?? So clever and well-produced!). But of course it was our very own Make Me Yelp team (Tripp W, Jane W, Phil G, and Meghan B) that won first place in costumes this year... for some very homemade Richard Simmons'-inspired outfits complete with curly wigs -- and the jumping jacks and high knees to go along with them! They finished 16th place (out of 70) in the race; and Yelp raised enough money to earn the 10th spot on the fundraising leaderboard. In other words, you yelpers rock! ;) Super-excited for the Doughman Banquet (yummy local food and beer) which takes place this evening. Ticket funds go to the charities. Awesome way to participate in Doughman if you don't necessarily feel like dressing up like superheroes and stuffing your face with a hoagie at 9am. Time to start planning for next year's race! --- So I just has to post a quick same-day update to say the Doughman hEArTs Durham Banquet was so fabulous. Terrific local breweries, great live music, and really good catered food (especially loving the Dolly Mama chocolate; LocoPops; and the bbq). And just swell company. I feel I got the best food draw of the team with local yogurt and a BBQ platter, but with the uphill 10 mile bike ride, I definitely earned every tasty morsel. Fav moments: - Phil G hopelessly roaming around for food prior to the race. Blah blah blah donut blah blah. - Kicking the Biggest Loser team's butt. There was no way I was going to let them come even close. - Meghan B 80's mix. Imagine me rolling through Durham driving the chaser truck, windows down, full Richard Simmons costume, singing 80's tunes at the top of my lungs, and waving to every person that passed me by. Classic! - People mistaking the wig for my real hair - The 3rd place team's coach in short shorts and an armadillo belt buckle - Eating and drinking my weight in food and beer at the banquet that night (still not really sure how I did it) So much fun. I can't wait to do it again next year!
