Beehive is the first and original gin distillery in Utah. I love the ambiance and is a great place for meeting friends or family or both to get together. The bartenders have always been personable and not in a creepy way. I do prefer the clear distilled gin vs the barrel reserve which is a lot more musky. If you are a whiskey or bourbon person you should try the barrel reserve.

As long as distilleries have been around, distillery cats have too. Gimlet is the honorary feline here and if you take a tour of the facility, you're likely to meet her. She mostly keeps to herself, allows an occasional pet, but then will be on her way patrolling the facility. She's good at her job. Speaking of good at their job, Mads took a small group, including myself, on a tour of the distillery-dropping knowledge bombs all along the way and captivating the group with more spirit trivia than you'd find any any sports bar event. She's terrific! Beehive Distilling also has a line under the name of Desolation Distilling. They create gin, vodka, whiskey (don't forget the "e", we don't want to offend the Scottish folk) and a few canned products as well. I learned that gin is an alcohol that has a variety of botanicals-including juniper, of course-and these botanicals are sourced from locations all over the world. They would love to source locally, but the volume they need exceeds local ability to produce. However, not all the ingredients are imported-I didn't get to see them, but Mads also told us that there are beehives on the roof which produce honey that is used in their cocktails. How cool! There will be a 7 year aged gin going on sell next week-it will be very limited. If you're lucky enough to read this in time, mark your calendar to pick up a bottle before they sell out!

My favorite local watering hole! This gem isn't ever super crowded and it is so low key. The vibe of the place is very quality, but not snobby in any sort of a-hole-ish kind of way. The bar is really the hidden secret of this place. But I recommend beehive for both their bar, and their gin is hard to even compete with. I suggest buying your booze here anyways. It is a better price than the liquor store and I never have to worry about waiting in an outrageous line that consumed by whole evening, while already have had an incredibly long day. The Moscow Mule contains 9% alcohol content per can and a can feels equivalent to having a strong drink of 2. Beehive sold me on simply this: class.

First time here. We came for our friends album debut. We we impressed with the decor and massive area around the bar to hang out. Plus there is another room next to the bar if you have a private party or just a big group of friends. The menu was small, just finger foods and sliders. They were delicious. They cocktails were out of this world and I'm sure we tried every one. I'm for sure going back and experience some more fun and music.

First Time at this place, very food surprise, I will be back! The place looks really nice and fancy, would be great for a date. We met there with friends and had a couple of cocktails, fries and sliders. Everything was delicious. We moved on to beer for my friends and prosecco for me. And for desert, we had the churros which were perfect to share. As we walked out, I asked my husband when he is taking me there on a date. I highly recommend!

Salt Lake has always needed a dark, luxe, moody bar that's a little farther from downtown & innocuous enough for you to meet with a former colleague that appears seemingly out of thin air next to you and orders a Gaucho as they slip you an envelope with the details to a top secret mission that you and only you can complete (even though you retired from the business years ago)... orrrrr it's a place to meet your best friend so you can catch up over mussels and smoked chips with a cocktail so good you'd rob your mother to pay for another. Either way! And yes, I know. You can buy a bottle of Beehive Gin at the liquor store but a Beehive gin cocktail at their distillery?! You have to try at least once. Oh, and don't forget to order the mussels.

What a beautiful location to spend an intimate evening with your friends. This distillery has a full bar, lots of seating and an elegant atmosphere. My friend and I enjoyed 'The Daydream' which has Beehive Organic Vodka, grapefruit liquor, aperol and lime. It was subtle, tart, beautiful to the eye and delicious. We will definitely be back soon!

Drink already gone because they were too good to last :)

We love coming to this unassuming distillery. It's a quick bike ride from our house or a short walk from the nearest tracks stop. The drinks are fabulous! And they serve food now...ridiculously tasty and reasonably price. Their pork belly bun is fantastic. Yumdidily-oumcious!! Plus there is a cute cat!

Their grand opening was this weekend, and they supplied some great food. It was a joy to meet Alan and Julia Scott. Julia was finishing up some bottling and answer some questions about the stills and distilling process.Alan was doing the tastings. His website does a better job than I saying what he's doing. "We've discovered a rich vein of pre-Prohibition herbal spirits, bitters and LONG LOST liqueurs. We intend to mine these recipes for flavor gold." That's really true. I don't love all of them, but I can appreciate how well done they are. That said, I love the special release high molasses Rum. I bought all they would sell me. It tastes right to me. There's a lot of rum around town, but they are made with either all cane sugar, or mostly cane sugar. That makes a really clean tasting rum, but removes a lot of character. I'm in love with a place that's making alcohol with a twist. I also like that they use two labels. Anything with Waterpocket on it is 100% distilled and created in their facility. We have some pretty big names around town that do not do that. They purchase already distilled base and blend/complete/modify it to meet their needs. Alan is completely up front. If he's completing a product, no matter how good it is, and he didn't do 100% of it, he labels it with Robbers Roost. I left with bottles of both labels because the Robbers Roost light whiskey was excellent.

Waterpocket is hands down the most innovative, creative distillery in Utah. Alan and Ana are changing the landscape of craft cocktails in Utah by introducing new flavors, ingredients, and twists to familiar liquors that will spice up any cocktail. It is apparent that both Alan and Ana are beyond passionate about what they are doing and it shows in the quality of their work. My personal favorites are their Robber's Roost Light Whiskey and their Long Lost Eau de Melisse. I am not a gin fan, but their Eau de Melisse is a great substitute and is great with tonic. I would highly recommend a trip to their distillery to learn about their process and ingredients from Alan himself and to taste the variety of liquors, bitters, and spirits they have available. You'll likely discover tastes you've never encountered before. You can purchase all of their spirits directly from the distillery and can find a smaller variety of them at your local State liquor store. Their liquors and spirits are also making their way into local bars, restaurants, and they have even been at local events such as Made in Utah lately. Highly, highly recommend checking them out!

That means that the drink has a primary alcohol that you taste. Vodka is designed so you don't taste it. Outside of the Vesper, there's isn't really any cocktail I make that uses Vodka, and the Vesper requires 100 proof Vodka. Why write all this? It explains why I've not made the pilgrimage here before. They are most known for their Vodka. I had an excellent visit with the owner. He's a great guy making things he likes. The Vodka exceeds what I think Vodka should, or shouldn't as the case may be, taste like. It's right there with any of the super premium Vodkas you are thinking of. Their Vanilla Caramel Vodka was a hit with the wife who will be using it in Coffee rather than Baileys on the weekend. I bought a Vodka and the flavored one too. With WaterPocket nearby to visit at the same time, this is a great place to visit.
